If something tastes good but is not good for you, why not just chew it, enjoy the taste and then spit it out?

Just had this idea while drinking coke (zero): let’s say it’s not healthy because of all the additives. Why wouldn’t I be able to enjoy it the taste and then spit it out without consuming all the chemicals, aspartame (or sugar in case you prefer normal coke) and all the other shit?
Party_Nothing_7605@reddit
lol I do this and have an eating disorder so
eyegazer444@reddit
I've literally posted this exact idea here before and people tore me to fucking shreds for it lol, saying it's the same thing as purging. If you're not even swallowing it then how is it an eating disorder? You're not eating it!
Plenty-Problem50@reddit
It’s the idea that you’re so scared of food you’d rather spit it out than digest it. As an anorexic, this is called chew-spit and very common among people with eating disorders. It is a bad sign to be this scared of eating.
eyegazer444@reddit
Yeah if you do it because you're scared of it that's obviously bad, but in this case it's just eating a normal healthy diet and then doing a little life hack to taste some extra bad stuff. It's not being scared of eating

Hahaha smartass

This is crazy ideas not encourage eating disorders
thejuiciestguineapig@reddit
Yeah this was one of the tips they used to give on those pro ana websites back in the day
CaptSkinny@reddit
I'm pretty sure that's a key principal behind anorexia.
Crystalraf@reddit
it's not. Anorexics might try this method, but chewing and tasting and then spitting out is closer to bulimia.
Anorexics just think of ways to consume less calories. Intermittent fasting (18 hour fasts combined with morning 5 mile runs) eating low calorie foods, salads, popcorn, eating smaller portions. are more Anorexic methods.
CaptSkinny@reddit
Yeah, I got my eating disorders mixed up.
CaptSkinny@reddit
Yeah, I got my eating disorders mixed up.
alicelestial@reddit
yeah it's called "chew and spit disorder" and is a possible symptom of some of the more common eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, EDNOS)
it's worrying that OP is considering it as a good idea but hopefully this comment section is discouraging
ortolon@reddit
It's bulimia with fewer steps.
RoboticBirdLaw@reddit
1) That's kinda gross.
2) It's incredibly wasteful.
3) You would likely lose some taste experience from the back of the throat.
mambotomato@reddit
It's no more wasteful than eating the food. The food is disposed of by you in both cases.
Gullible_Ad7182@reddit
You would still need to eat other food to make up for the calories you are not eating here
Ok_Signature7481@reddit
Generally speaking people areeating too .any calories anyway, so they're wasting the food AND becoming less healthy from it, so the spitting is a slightly less wasteful habit because there won't be as negative of a health result. Although ideally you just don't eat too much food.
SpiritualMission1167@reddit
Then they would supplement the calories they couldn’t gain from the “unhealthy food” they chewed and spat out with well more food that they would eat. Chewing doesn’t negate hunger.
SkyGuy5799@reddit
If I wanted the calories then I'd eat it? There's no such thing as food that's bad for you just eating too much of it
Mutant_Llama1@reddit
And you burn calories chewing.
Repossessedbatmobile@reddit
I eat food that tastes good because I don't hate myself.

And Dip.
Cutsdeep-@reddit
Like a hot dip or something?
PrincessCrayfish@reddit
That's called "Chew and spit anorexia", and is in fact an eating disorder.
hangtime94@reddit
you ever try to get something out of a dogs mouth that its not suppose to eat? its next to near impossible. good luck
eyegazer444@reddit
Please walk us through your logic of why you think this is the same thing. You think it's hard to remove food from your own mouth?
GonnaTry2BeNice@reddit
Think OP is talking about people not dogs. One would remove the food from their own mouth, not have someone else attempt it.
similarbutopposite@reddit
The eating-disorder side of Tumblr figured this out years ago lol but you still absorb a non-insignificant portion of the calories/other bad stuff.
WhyWontThisWork@reddit
You do?
JellyBellyBitches@reddit
A little bit. It absorbs in your cheeks and gums and stuff in the mouth and you incidentally swallow a little bit, or not necessarily swallow but it goes down your esophagus. I think it was John Kellogg who suggested chewing your food until it all fell down your throat that way, to avoid the temptation of indulgence and keep yourself chaste of the sin of masturbation he spent his career railing against.
More importantly though, it also fucks up your digestion because your body is getting signals as though you are eating and then it's not actually getting the other end of the chemical equation that it's sort of ramping up for and so it just sort of dysregulates those systems
Turbulent-Name-8349@reddit
I do that with lumps of lead. Chew it, enjoy the taste, and then spit it out.
Antimaria@reddit
Most of the experience comes from your sense of smell, and I might be wrong but I believe that the process of shallowing the food pushes the aroma up in the nasal cavity and a big part of the experience. Chewing and sitting out will not be nearly as satisfying.
That said, its not complicated, just try it.
LaMadreDelCantante@reddit
I feel like that would actually work better to train yourself not to eat the unhealthy food at all, because spitting out chewed food would be so unpleasant it would ruin the enjoyment anyway.
evilron@reddit
For me, I’m sure that will work as well as any other pull out method, as evidenced by my kids.
ThePepperPopper@reddit
Coke zero is fine for you, btw
DDell313@reddit
You start digesting what you consume in your mouth. Even if you spit it out, you're still consuming part of it. Granted at a much smaller rate.
FaerHazar@reddit
i did this it is an eating disorder
Cutsdeep-@reddit
Oh you tease
Delicious_Bus_674@reddit
Sometimes bodybuilders who are dieting will eat ice while smelling other food to trick their senses into "tasting" the good food while really eating nothing.
NoDanaOnlyZuuI@reddit
The second you taste something sweet, your brain and digestive system start gearing up for food. Spitting it out cuts that process short, which can actually increase cravings because your body’s basically like, “hey, where’s the rest?”
FortWendy69@reddit
It’s the regret that we crave. It’s reminds us we’re alive.

Wine drinkers are way ahead of you.
jckipps@reddit
Try it and report back.
Tasting a drink without the pleasure of swallowing it is particularly unsatisfying.
maxxslatt@reddit
I do that sometimes, I don’t really think it’s problematic like some people are saying. I’m eating it for the taste, not the calories. The calories can come from better stuff.
ScarletDarkstar@reddit
Nobody wants to experience you spitting food and drinks out all over the place, and in the case of your coke, you gain practically no hydration.
FriedSmegma@reddit
No hydration or sustenance, all of the tooth decay.
similarbutopposite@reddit
The eating-disorder side of Tumblr figured this out years ago lol but you still absorb a non-insignificant portion of the calories/other bad stuff.
LowCress9866@reddit
Rocky Marciano did do this. He would chew steak and then spit it out. It's not something you would do in polite company though
ActorMonkey@reddit
Some do. It’s not nearly as satisfying. Taste is only part of the experience. Try it though. Maybe you’ll love it.
