I think one of the reasons is that their food source (think anchovies, herring, sardines) draws multiple pods into the same area to feed. Then they start socializing and travel together to the next food source
Wow that's awesome! A good chunk of them will be headed down the coast towards mexico following the schooling fish species that head that way over the winter. I wonder if that's where this pod is headed!
