My old truck needs a new engine. Is it worth?

Hi guys first time Im dealing with this. My knowledge on vehicles is very little.
I own a Honda Ridgeline 2006. Today I was exiting the freeway and suddenly I noticed that the steering wheel and the gas didn't respond, I could only hit the brakes. A mechanic (friend of a friend) took it to his place, ran the camera inside the engine and told me its damage, that it will be better to just get an used engine. Told me 1k for just labor (not counting the new engine, oil and so on). We are on TX btw.
I dont even know how much is an used engine. This is not even my main vehicle, I just use it to move stuff around. Is it even worth?

The vehicle is 20 years old and high mileage. Sounds like you would be putting a used engine in it and not new so lifespan of a used engine is suspect as well. The vehicle sounds like it has enough strikes against it , it is best to just replace it.

How many miles / what’s the condition of the rest of the truck? Replacing it with something else will likely cost exponentially more than repairing it. But if the truck has other issues or high miles, then it might be time to move on. Hard to know with the limited info so far, but fixing it would be my first choice.

320k miles. Only problem besides this is Steering wheel is a bit rough and AC doesnt blow that cold (I think it just needs freon)

AC would have to be recharged after a motor swap, so no issues there. 320k hm, that’s high enough mikes that having other expensive problems in the near future wouldn’t be unheard of (suspension, transmission, etc.) So it’s harder to make that call for you. I’d suggest looking around to see what you might replace it with, and what the price point for the replacement with. If a replacement is 8-10k but you can get the Ridgeline fixed for say $3,500, that seems worth it. If a replacement truck is 5-6k and fixing yours is 3-4k, it might be better to just replace it.

Well there is the cost of having a used engine installed vs a new engine installed vs buying a used vehicle vs buying a new vehicle. Depends on your budget and preference.
