I’m completely stumped on what is going on with my car recently. It’s a 2008 acura rdx i’ve had for 3 years now. I didn’t have any big problems for the first couple years and within the last 6 months i’ve had continuous battery drainage problems as if i’d left a light on all night yet I have triple checked many times and there is nothing. After sitting for a day or more, it all of a sudden wouldn’t start. Acts like the battery is dying so I ended up taking it into my mechanic and asked him to check the battery and any solution as to why it wouldn’t start. He told me he tested the battery and charger and found no issues and the battery was completely fine (it is only a 2 year old battery). I thought maybe it was okay so I picked it up and again, after sitting for a day or more it won’t start. I have to jump it everytime I need to drive. Super frustrating. The only lights I see on after I lock the car is the anti theft light blinking red as well as a red blinking light on the dash. I’ve never noticed the light on the dash before so is that what’s draining the battery? I don’t know why it all of a sudden started blinking and all I can find on google is that it’s the anti theft light and it’s normal but why is there 2 red blinking lights for anti theft?? The only solution I can think of is try leaving it unlocked over night and seeing if it starts to confirm it’s that light but again, that’s not exactly a good longterm solution… Please any advice on what to do or how to turn the light off. I genuinely can’t figure it out and i’m worried if I bring it back to the mechanic they are going to say they can’t find anything wrong and i’d have spent 100$ for nothing.

you have what is known as a parasitic power draw on your battery
a basic description is: you turned the car off, something MUCH larger than an anti theft light bulb is still on and drawing power, which kills the battery
This video maaaay be way over your head, if it is I would suggest taking the car to your mechanic friend or a real mechanic shop and have the vehicle tested for a parasitic power draw

Honda/Acura HandsFreeLink. It has a crappy tendency to eventually overheat a bit in its “home” fusing some internal circuitry together and keeping it permanently ON draining the battery.

The simplest solution is to disconnect your battery when parking overnight. If you want to make it convenient you can rig up a killswitch.
