Xena’s depression doesn’t get talked about enough and even through it all she keeps fighting and pushing on sacrificing over and over. She just wants to be free…

I personally feel Gabrielle's suffering on her journey with Xena doesn't get appreciated as much as it should.

I think it does in a way. You can see entire episodes dedicated to it. Forget me not, gabs hope, maternal instincts, and then the abyss. And moments throughout. I mean, yes it could have been talked about more, for both of them. But here I focus on Xena. I tend to focus more on her.

Still, I love the last image is of Gabrielle -- her expression. She stood in for us so beautifully as the observer, empathizing even though unable to change what Xena had to do for herself. This is like a mini tribute to Renee's awesomeness as both her own character and our reflection of Xena's.

I fully agree. I ALSO think, that Gabby put Xena at risk many many times trying to be peaceful. She insisted on following her, but not getting serious about fighting until later seasons. All that does is put Xena in danger. They shouldn't have focused her character around being peaceful all the time.

Actually Gabrielle wanted to fight early on - she bought the Breast Dagger in Season 1 Episode 3 Dreamworker - Xena just wouldn't let her, knowing it would make her a target.
Dishslave37@reddit
OOOOOOOOH YEA THAT'S RIGHT!!!! But for the majority of the show she didn't fight. I feel like she wanted to be like Xena without realizing what it entailed, and Xena just wanted to keep her safe.
AuntyEmfromOz@reddit
Gotta disagree with that, too. Once she got her fighting staff from the Amazons in Season 1, she joined in where she could.
IseQween@reddit
Have to agree with you. Even in SOTP, Gabs had no problem tripping the bad guy who tried to give Draco a boost during his fight with Xena. The Amazon ep is a little before halfway of S1, after which Gabs dishes out hits on a regular basis. Her pacifist phase begins and ends during the latter part of S3 with her becoming the Gabinator. True, her desire not to kill continued throughout, but I don't equate that with being "peaceful all the time" and endangering Xena.

That's ok we can agree to disagree. :-)

I think you’re right, I think Gabrielle suffering. Doesn’t get brought up as I think her pains that, she have suffering along journey from likes her.
First kill and the loss of her innocent to carried, the guilt of her daughter killing Xena’s son Solan. Then she kill her own daughter, because of that and Gabrielle was never same.
As I think, Gabrielle heals from her trauma. She has experienced or talks about it, as I feel Gabrielle the pains and suffering to herself and never talks about it.
Maybe perhaps she doesn’t want upset Xena by speaking, about Hope without Xena bringing up Solan that Gabrielle’s child kill.

What song is this?

Interesting thought.

I agree it doesn’t get talked about enough, throughout Xena’s journey and even prior she has suffered so much. Throughout the show the theme of redemption, healing and forgiveness is brought up in regards to Xena as a through line, however her depression while discussed could’ve been discussed more, it lingers in the background. Xena owns up to her mistakes but she also blames herself for many other atrocities, many of them are understandable and justified, however some are not her fault at all and her depression and guilt from her past mixed together like a potent libation.
I mean Xena in the first episode was literally about to kill herself. She was that on the edge and while Gabrielle saved her, it still lingers, it’s still there her own reflection haunting her in the faces of others. I would’ve loved to see more.
Anyway love ya Summer love the vid. ANOTHER SJO

Oof, those Cyrene clips. I was rewatching Haunting of Amphipolis the other day and could not stop crying over how sad her story ended up. Burned at the stake calling for Xena, believing her daughter would come through and save the day as always.
Omg in choked up again lmao
Fantastic video as always, you always curate the best clips

Thanks for another beautiful vid. Lucy has such great facial expressions, I absolutely CAN'T see anyone else playing her where the character was true for this many years
summer_james2@reddit (OP)
Thank you 😊 Lucy was born for this role! So talented!! I just wish she would be recognized by the awards communities for her work.
SakuraTacos@reddit
The tragedy is even if XWP was a massive-budget prestige cable TV show, they still would’ve ignored Lucy because of how tv and film academies treat horror and superhero media. Shout out to my bbs Elizabeth Olsen, Kathryn Hahn, and Carla Gugino who were robbed of awards for brilliant performances in MCU and Mike Flanagan projects.

This is beautiful.

Ughhhh this is fits so well 🥹❤️ I'd say more but can't think of anything at the moment 🫠

Just those few words are perfect enough 🥰🥰🥰 thank you
Dishslave37@reddit
OK OK OK OK OK THAT'S IT!!!!! This is your best video EVER.......yea yea yea I've said that like 6 times already. 😅🤪😅🤪 But seriously her character had SOOOOOO much depth to her. Even after being as evil as she was, she found it somewhere in her to be pure and have good intentions, even if in certain episodes the dark side crept in. Gabrielle was always what kept her focused and determined to over come everything! Great job at showcasing that!
summer_james2@reddit (OP)
Hahaha 😂 you are awesome! I love your commentary!
She did. And even the little changes to her face it expressions tell you so much about her. Lucy gave her so much depth. It’s incredible. This character is truly amazing.
Dishslave37@reddit
Lol Thanks and of course!! I have never seen an actress that has as many levels as Lucy. To be able to do Xena, Meg, Diana, and her own kooky self is ALOT! Her character is multi faceted and so is her real life. Amazing! Nancy McKeon is a massive talent. She would be a close second. But Xena got me through my teen years.
summer_james2@reddit (OP)
Lucy is so incredibly talented. She deserves all the awards!!!

We try not to think about it okay :,( because some of us cry when she cries okay :,( But seriously this video broke my heart it’s so freaking beautiful Summer!!!! I love how you showed Xena as so vulnerable and raw. What ep is the last clip from?
summer_james2@reddit (OP)
It’s hard not to cry when she cries. You can feel her emotions through the screen. Our poor girl. She lost so much. I broke my own heart making the video. Thank you soooo much 🥹😍🥰🥰🥰🥰 her vulnerability is just so beautiful and heartbreaking. The last clip is from the episode “Eve.”
