Instead of using water to cool CPUs in AI data centers, use piss.

Isnt it like, corrosive?
LetTheDarkOut@reddit
The cooling systems are built to withstand saltwater unfortunately. Salt builds up and causes corrosion and blockages. So you would need a dedicated cleaning team or automated cleaning system, but that’s too much to ask from the trillion dollar companies for some reason; instead they’ll use potable fresh water that could have been used for drinking or farming.

What happens this water isn't usable again after? It's not destroyed, just heated
LetTheDarkOut@reddit
My understanding is that it is mixed with chemicals that enhance its ability to heat transfer, and thus becomes wastewater after it’s been used.
WhyWontThisWork@reddit
That seems unfortunately wasteful, but I guess it makes sense

Holy corrosion Batman. Even normal tap water is corrosive and will produce sediment given time. I don’t want my cooling system developing kidney stones.
A better method is closed loop with a water-coolant mix to prevent corrosion. Then a heat exchanger using a separate water source that can be of questionable quality but that system is easier to work on and can be made redundant.

My piss is hot, unless I drink too much Jamba Juice. Then it, and my diarrhea, are ice cold.
Tensor3@reddit
It would destroy the cooling system

seems like you're just not being disruptive or innovative enough
YungNuisance@reddit
It would breed innovation

It would drive excellence

What the fuck sub do you think you’re in?
klystron@reddit
Good luck finding a tech willing to fix it if it leaks.

I was just reading that they prefer to use treated water, on the other hand in Toronto they use lake water for cooling in the financial district Pretty sure they could use whatever if they had a financial incentive to.
FredOfMBOX@reddit
They like to use distilled water because anything else leaves buildup on the cooling system. I’d imagine the lake water system is a different design than most datacenters.
OP’s idea with the salt and acidic content would probably not be great, either.
urbanviking318@reddit
That in mind, actual liquid sodium can absorb a staggering amount of heat. Rather than a circulatory loop, though, I think it would have to work with a cyclical series of heatsinks, which for obvious reasons wouldn't work at the scale they need for AI processing.
calimehtar@reddit
Treated water, like from municipal water supply is different from distilled. And from what I can see they use either or both, but they can also use wastewater or closed loop systems where the water is re used, so yeah the idea isn't crazy at all
Aromatic-Truffle@reddit
A fellow Oxygen not included player I see :D
Aniso3d@reddit
They could just close cycle it, but it costs more

Now AI ads can LITERALLY piss me off
