That’s why I posted this. Getting some Corsair momentum going in this subreddit 😜. Personally I’m never going back to monohull sailing. Having no speed limit is a wonderful thing.
you should check out 'singlehanded sailng' by Andrew Evans...he's done some impressive single handed racing and wrote a really great book about his thoughts and clear step-by-step instructions on maneuvers. His chapter on a simple self-steering systems was great, I made one for my 25' boat, not perfect but keeps me on course so I take a bio break or trim sails etc.
Hello, I have a F24/2. Why do you drop your main and the roll it up? I just roll mine up straight down around the boom and it comes down. Thanks. Hoping to learn something!
The carbon fiber mast isn’t as slippery
As aluminum and since I’m by myself I’m just playing it safe. It sometimes gets stuck and it’s just smoother and more foolproof to pull it down and then roll it.
On two occasions years ago my wife and I decided to sail from Long Beach to Avalon in our Lido 14. The wind was perfect. Both times when we were almost half way there we chickened out and turned around. Kinda wish we had gone for it.
It gets rougher and rougher until you get there. That’s an impressive trip if you make it! Maybe the best way would be to start out as far west as you can like… Angel’s gate, so you have a nice low angle and don’t have to head into the bigger waves as you get close.
There's a rental service that takes a batch of jetskis from LB to the isthmus often (daily in the summer I think). The renters all look pretty beat when they get to the island. But there's at least 2 'pro' skis with them + all the renters. i.e. there's options if things go south.
A Lido 14? Maybe, but not solo - with backup boats, a radio, etc.. Plenty of lake/runabout mobos do it too.
My first trip over was in a Columbia 5.5. I was dumber then and I would not do it again in a boat that has zero positive flotation, about a foot of freeboard, and powered by a 3hp outboard.
Most I hit on this trip was about 17 knots near when I’m going by that tanker I think. It’s pretty easy to go about that fast on this boat. Going faster than that takes some effort!
Nice trip! I remember my first sail to Catalina without my training captain. I was the skipper but didn't sail solo (My policy for myself is that I don't sail alone in the ocean). With me were three lovely, intelligent women. It was fun hanging out with them. We carted around Avalon. I remember cash being required for the deposit on the cart but not for its rental.

The more Corsair stuff I see like this, the more I want to ditch the monohull.

I've raced them. Fast is fun!

I absolutely love mine. She has been in Jamaica for about 15 years now and does great in the open water. I will never go back to a monohull

How long does the crossing take in this? Is it faster coming back?

F-27?
vepkenez@reddit (OP)
28R. F27 has a cabin in the back and looks more like the boat in the other Corsair post from yesterday.
