Is it better to order from Amazon US through Amazon UK, or direct?

I've done both recently. An item I wanted which shipped from .com went out of stock on .co.uk, so I ordered it from the US site. Little to no difference, however the parcel got lost by Evri once it reached our shores, go figure. I was refunded and was able to reorder on our local site as they restocked it by that time. The only difference was that the UK site ended up working out £1 cheaper. I assume that is because the conversion was done at the time of the original listing, whereas the conversion is done upon checkout from the foreign site. It just happened to work out in my favour. The item wasn't expensive enough to incur additional import fees. The second one was delivered via Royal Mail and actually arrived, a few days earlier than expected even. I was comped $10 for the original lost delivery by US Amazon's customer service, but it only applies on their website by things bought and sold by Amazon.com which it practically useless for me. So, the point of my story is that it is slightly more convenient to order from Amazon.co.uk. The price is relatively the same, but if you do have to deal with customer service, it will be through your regular use account and any compensation will be made with our own currency.
