Because its a valid question (not that bosses ain;t assholes) . No need to be going that fast on the outside lane near the sidewalk. Not to mention his shitty reflexes.. you can tell that small truck was gonna do some stupid shit.
I just dunno why you're defending the pick up here. They're clearly wrong and an idiot.
The trucker isn't going "too fast", and while it's true that they could have noticed a hazard sooner rather than later, this is not the trucker's fault.
The pickup literally turns right in front of them from the wrong lane. That's the "do stupid things sin stupid prizes" takeaway from the video.
Had the truck been doing the speed limit at the start of the clip, he’d’ve hit significantly less hard. He’d’ve also been in the right and in a job now.
Do you actually drive a truck or just drive video game semis? Real life is different than a game no reset buttons so we exercise what’s called an over abundance of caution.
Speed is in the top corner of the video. It says 58 which is going to be pretty much accurate. The time elapsed is just under 3.5 seconds for 191 feet which is 54 mph. Speed limit in Kiowa, OK is 40 and this isnt an area that it barely changed from 60 to 40, it drops to 40 mph 350 feet prior to the start of the video and drops to 50 mph 1180 feet prior to the 40 mph sign. Both signs are clearly visible from the road.
The question, why is a person that is operating a commercial vehicle driving so fast? At 15 over you can lose your cdl especially when its contributes to an accident.
The basis of most bosses nonsense is the Smith system. The Smith system entirely relies on the other driver to be 'reasonable.' I'll let you proceed from here.
Nah, I've taught the smith system to new drivers. I teach it on the basis that everyone is a fucking hairless ape twiddling with a tiny computer and will kill you to save a second, so here's what you should do to bail out of a shitty situation.
I taught both my kids the smith system. I really thought I wasn't getting thru to them. But both of them mentioned something about knowing what to do from that
I noticed that companies want you to suck the smith systems peen hard because they probably paid thousands to use the license and want the insurance discount
Im reality, it's just labeling common sense practices that we already use (or at least should use, mfers be real inattentive) and making us actively think about it on the road.
Your right. It absolutely is. Only 1 company I worked with used that system JBH. But. It saved my life, a police officer life an a car load of teenagers because I was made a little more aware of what to look out for. Dam. I thought I had a bad attitude. You have me beat to hell. Thinking everyone is out to get your money
Not the way I taught the Smith System. The Keys can prepare one to be ready for any other driver being irrational or stupid. Sure companies like to blame the driver. Why using Smith helps.
This is near the intersection of US 69 and OK 63 in Kiowa, speed limit 50 mph. Trucker will definitely be found at least partially at fault for speeding
He let off the gas the second or maybe a second before this video started and was slamming on the brakes at the 63/69 sign. I’d say the driver was doing okay.
They said 40 but I think it’s 50 I drive that stretch from Atoka to Dallas a lot that whole area you should go pretty slow it’s a small town and they have troopers hiding in the cut.
See but if we say that we not on the drivers side lol. I drive like a fucking grandpa and I’m constantly looking for stupid shit. A truck going slow riding the middle? I’ll slow down looking for the dumb shit.
Ok I found the intersection in Kiowa, OK . I don't know the actual speed limit for that road but my guess is that the truck was going too fast. Pickup did something stupid (I don't see him using the turn signal in the video) but my guess is that, depending on the law, truck driver is at least partly at fault for the high speed.
Driving too fast. Not what I think personally, all things considered, but it's what you WILL be hit with here, even though you're not at fault. I always slow tight down in these scenarios, especially if I see someone doing something ridiculous. Not sure how soon you realized he was stopped, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you did everything you could have. Just sharing what I personally do to avoid crap like this happening. It can't always be avoided though anyway, so.
Pick up looked like it was up to some fuckery before the incident. Driver should have slowed down especially in that type of area. I'd still mostly blame the pick up, but the semi guy should have done better.
Doing close to 60 on a road like that in the outer lane is crazy but I I also believe pickup did that shit on purpose. Needed insurance money maybe🤷🏾♂️
Dash cam is going to make his life even more difficult. Dash cam confirms 18 over the posted speed limit. The fact an accident is tied to this can lead to a cdl disqualification.
Might it have been preventable? yes. I agree, we are supposed to be the professionals. But is it legally the truck driver's fault? Fuck no. 4 wheeler made a right turn out the left lane.

HowlingWolven@reddit
The truck is doing approximately 1.5x posted. The truck shares some percentage of fault for this collision by not driving at a safe and legal speed.
typicalskeleton@reddit
Just watch the video again. The pickup turns out so fast even a regular car is unlikely to be able to stop in time to avoid a collision.
Again, I don't know why people are defending the pickup in this case.
HowlingWolven@reddit
I’m not defending the pickup. I’m saying there are two bad drivers in this clip.
Bro.

syrianfries@reddit
Approximately 40-50 is what I would guess, maybe less. Depending on town that could be fine idk
typicalskeleton@reddit
I agree, to me it looks closer to 40 than 50, but either way it doesn't look "top fast."
A G Man might interpret it differently, though.
