The Grievance Economy

61% of people hold a "moderate or higher" sense of grievance against the institutions that run their lives. Four in ten people now find "hostile activism" tactics acceptable. 23% approve of threatening or committing violence.
Those stats come from a January Edelman Trust Barometer report and those numbers are truly concerning. Things aren't working for most people and when grievance -> hostive activism -> acceptable violence we are in trouble.
What was interesting about this study is that if you look at the most ardent "free-market" economies you see dramatic increases in grievance. We would argue that it is a difference data set to show that Neoliberal policies have failed citizens around the world.

I think that's a little low. Come on people, where is your fucking rage!!!!!

Private enterprise is a lot of the reason we're going through what we are, but we have a criminally negligent government that is either unable, or unwilling to do its job. They took the guardrails off of capitalism that were put in place for a reason, and now the population is being gutted because of it.

You know it’s bad when the only thing left the profit off of is your own despair and disillusionment with the system

You need to pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers.

Some people still think the politicians run the world, but the underlying paradigm is competition and capitalism - the literal polar opposite of cooperation. Literally everybody in every walk of life is trying to out-compete everyone else. The rich psychos compete better than most, and arrange a world that short term fits them, by exploiting the ever loving fuck out of everybody else.
People are dissatisfied? Well there's a shocker.
Far-Air8177@reddit
First of all that's a massive exaggeration as not that much has changed and they still have pretty open migration policies, gay marriage, weak armed forces, migrants literally blowing each other up with grenades and getting suspended sentences for it (Malmö has the worst gun and explosive violence in all of Europe);etc
But sure that's what happens when you have open borders to the third world and to violent people. People at any point in human history would not enjoy that. It destroys all sense of trust, kinship and care. Numerous harvard studies show that the more diverse a society the less people care about each other. The less they donate and socialize. And that americas diversity is the main reason it lacks a welfare state like other developed states. Diversity creates a lack of care and willingly to support your fellow citizens as you no longer see them as your fellow citizen. It creates a low trust society and you see this in almost all ethnically diverse countries around the world. Such as in Brazil, Colombia, indonesia, Sudan, India, Lebanon, South Africa etc. Amazon also has a study that ethnic diversity tears workers apart and lowers uninization rates.
It's simple human nature to feel more comfortable and more connected to your own.
The rich massively push for mass migration for a reason. Also provides them with cheap labor and increases housing values/costs/rent. Going against these billionaire corporate wishes is not "neo nazism"
Also it's good to take care of your citizenry but you can't take care of the whole world and no one would ever vote for that. A welfare state combined with open borders is a terrible combination that won't last long as it will be flooded with the world's poor. You can't have open borders and a welfare state ,you have to pick one. And the rich capitalists absolutely would prefer the low trust low welfare low wage high cost diverse open borders society.
What you're seeing in Sweden is not neo nazis but the pro business people winning. They got their mass migration and now Sweden is now longer Swedish. As a result the people have become cold and uncaring to each other and the support for its broad welfare state has crashed. People don't want violent foreigners who hate Swedish people to get welfare support but it also means the disabled ,marginalized etc loose support. Now with the dropped support the pro business parties in the Nordics are absolutely guttting the welfare state just like planned. All thanks to the left buying into this whole neoliberal globalist project.

My friend, you are the Nazi. If immigrants are coming in and causing chaos, it is only because your society has exactly the gaps where such chaos can flourish. The authoritarian mind will always blame everyone other than themselves for the negative social outcomes they see.
It's just like when British fascists complain about "migrant rape." What country exported its rape culture to 25% of the globe? Whose cities are designed for cars in mind, leaving sidewalks empty and people vulnerable at night? Whose institutions systematically protect those who have been accused of trafficing? If someone is coming from outside and causing problems with your system, it is only because your system had these gaps to begin with. Until you man up and decide to actually fix these problems, all the evils you blame on migrants (and which certainly were happening before migrants arrived) will continue happening.

Yes. Because your problem does not fit in the box the computer has available. So you will not get help much less a kindness or sympathy from a human.
The restrictions are so very useful for managing larger groups of people at less cost. But it erodes trust over time. The price will be paid. Just not the way the shareholders thought.

Everything does appear to be a checkbox, from bank tellers to judges, to the extent that I don't understand why they bother putting a human in front of the computer.
I so want to destroy my credit rating.
PrairieFire_withwind@reddit
Yeah. It gets worse and really obvious if you take someone with mutiple health issues to the doctors office. They just don't have capacity. It applies across the board tho.

I’m in a union. What they’re describing is the reason why unions exist.
JackBlackBowserSlaps@reddit
But unions are also having their rights and benefits whittled away. Not to mention being gouged by hotels etc when they’re on the road. It’s all going to shit.
Chance-Deer-7995@reddit
People trust in business? Why? They are the primary driver in just about all of this. It's all about stoking people's hatred so that corporations can steal out of their pockets when they are screaming.

The article answered this.

Replace business with capitalism
Kinent@reddit (OP)
I agree with you on that. It seems that people feel like business isn't doing enough to make things better when they really should be making the connection that business is the cause of the misery.
redditing_1L@reddit
Don’t threaten me with a good time, pal!
Seriously though: why would you not hate the ceo who pays you $22/hour? Why wouldn’t you despise your cable or cell phone duopolies who collude together to get prices high? What maniac wouldn’t hate the bank that nickel and dimes you at every turn **to hold and use your money?! ** why shouldn’t hostility develop against political parties bought and paid for by our oppressors.
The sooner people wake up and get mad, the better.
jackierandomson@reddit
If anyone else is curious what exactly "hostile activism" is, I found this from the report:
• Attack people online • Intentionally spread disinformation • Threaten or commit violence • Damage public or private property
No-Papaya-9289@reddit
Grievance is a bit of a loaded word. It suggests entitlement. Anger would be much more appropriate I think.
jackierandomson@reddit
No it doesn't.

Guess who's stepping up to do CPR? The Stable Genius in Chief 👏
Just messing around, we're not stuck in all that doom and gloom. People are out there living their best lives, advancing their koreas, and chasing more gRoWth. I’m pumped for my Q4 earnings and can’t wait to hear my alpha-male life coach’s take on how to spend it.

Many people seem to search for why one US political party is winning over another, they fail to note that our economy, which has been run by both parties, is failing most people. And it's not just failing in the US but failing globally. This economic system is leading us straight into collapse.
