Man it’s crazy to say but at this point I’m pulling for a pan-South American coalition to finally put the foot down and tell the US to stay the fuck out of the continent
JuanchiB@reddit
Why the hell would I want to defend Maduro's regime?
KnicksGhost2497@reddit
How about Columbia and Petro? Are you starting to get it yet?
J-Dawg_Cookmaster@reddit
Because they did it to Argentina less than 50 years ago lol if they hadn't, maybe your education would have been better.
It's not about Maduro. This isn't an isolated incident.
Isaak_the_miner@reddit
No way I just saw you telling a latin american that you know more of their country that they do.
J-Dawg_Cookmaster@reddit
I didn't mean education about their country, just in general.
Superfan234@reddit
I swear Gringos have the most Narnia world view ever
No one on South America will defend, on the contrary. Almost everyone want Maduro gone too
KnicksGhost2497@reddit
Not about Maduro you’re entirely missing the point of my comment
KnicksGhost2497@reddit
Oh look, Trump just called the president of Colombia an “illegal drug dealer”, the exact same pretense he’s using to build an excuse for regime change in Venezuela. Tell me again how its about “defending Maduro” and not the entirety of Latin America?
Namika@reddit
If only Brazil spoke Spanish, it's been theorized the continent would have united decades ago.
sogerr@reddit
all the spanish-speaking territory in south america fractured into a bunch of different countries while all the portuguese-speaking territories stayed together and you think somehow spanish-speaking brazil would remain united instead of a portuguese-speaking south america?
sxnmc@reddit
and this is why portugal CANNOT into balkan, cyka blyat
LEFT4Sp00ning@reddit
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, SOMEONE BRING THE PADEIRAS AND THE MINI SUPER BOCKS, PORTUGAL MENTIONED
Sargento_Porciuncula@reddit
It did not help to unify all the other countries that do speak Spanish
newfagotry@reddit
Very unlikely to happen.
Tearing up the Treaty of Tlatelolco, on the other hand, appears more and more a real possibility.
KnicksGhost2497@reddit
Brazil nukes on the horizon?
Sargento_Porciuncula@reddit
We don't have the tech to launch them
(Building the nuke itself is ok)
BendicantMias@reddit (OP)
India or Iran can help with that.
newfagotry@reddit
Today I feel Enéas.
PTMorte@reddit
Very unlikely as it would illicit a direct response from the other southern hemisphere treaty members and probable military intervention from them to stop someone establishing nukes here.
LatterTarget7@reddit
Very unlikely. Not many countries like Venezuela and would not be willing to lay down their lives for them. Even if they did form a coalition I doubt it’d last long and probably couldn’t meet head to head with the us military
Poolturtle5772@reddit
That would require the rest of South America to either like Venezuela, especially under current leadership enough to help them OR convince each other it’s in their best interest despite not liking Venezuela.
I don’t think this will be the event that does it.
KnicksGhost2497@reddit
My delusion is that other countries in SA recognize the domino effect something like this could have, especially any with governments that could even be construed as left-wing. Brazil, especially, with its deposits of rare earth materials, might see this the first domino to fall.
I know it’s unlikely. We’ll wait and see, I guess
J-Dawg_Cookmaster@reddit
So, genuine question. Why is this still allowed by the international community? Legitimately undermining the democracy of neighbours for decades and pulling coups to destabilise just for their own corrupt economic gains.
Nomen__Nesci0@reddit
You need to look up
Once you understand how we've held the world and its people at gunpoint for 80 years you'll maybe start learning about what BRICS is doing right now.
MobileEnvironment393@reddit
To be honest with you, we need to stop living in this fallacy of the "international community" and that there is some sort of divine force of law and order governing the world beyond our borders. The sooner we in "civilized" nations get to grips with that and begin acting in a more robust manner, the sooner we can begin to fix the mess the world is becoming.
Thangoman@reddit
PTMorte@reddit
To expand on 1. The relationship between South American nations is much weaker than other regional organisations. They have a trade bloc Mercosur that is achieving free trade deals but their previous "left wing" union of nations USAN which was formed to resist US geopolitics has collapsed and been replaced by a new "right wing" pro-US one called PROSUR.
It's really sad to me because the US has basically won the cold war in South America with their standard divide and conquer approach. They drove the wedge between Colombia and Venezuela, and lost Colombia as a US ally in the process (which is why they've pivoted to Argentina). But it's a net geopolitical win for the US as they split the continent away from its goal of a combined bloc like we see with regional unions in Europe, Africa and Asia.
CosechaCrecido@reddit
The USA has not at all lost Colombia. This current leftist president is an unpopular blip in their politics and will be replaced by a right winger next elections. The opposition has simply run out of political steam after having governed for 30 straight years and people needed a respite.
Argentina on the other hand is the exact opposite. They are about to undo everything Milei attempted to implement and will veer to their typical Peronist angle in the next election cycle.
qwertyalguien@reddit
Nah. A decade or so ago, any suggestion of intervention by the US was met with general condemnation, even by the right wing govs.
What happened is that Venezuela has become a major source of instability in the region. Everyone really WANTS Maduro gone ASAP, but saying it out loud would be a major diplomatic (and political) issue, so they just shut up.
Venezuela is just extremely hated by the region at this point.
PTMorte@reddit
The US destabilised Venezuela and used it as their main tool to break up unity on the continent. They have done this so many times both in South America and other regions. They sow regional discord and use that fear to enact shifts in domestic governments/policy. Indonesia is probably the most brutal example.
They don't want successful leftist / non-US aligned governments, or especially a functional and strong union of them.
Compared to 25 years ago, the left is now more vilified and a unified and powerful South American bloc is farther away than ever.
sight_ful@reddit
So you think venezuela's current economic troubles in Venezuela are due to the US and not Maduro's policies? Do you believe the elections to have been fair? Maduro has the support of his people?
It just seems very unlikely given how many Venezuelans specifically have come to the US over the last two decades. About 20% of the population, 8 million people, have emigrated out of venezuela. Pretending like this is all the US's fault seems a bit ridiculous, no?
PTMorte@reddit
Both, no, some of them.
Look at how badly the US is falling apart at the moment. Then imagine how much worse it would be if an external country threw an economic cage around it for a few decades.
BurstYourBubbles@reddit
I don't think I've seen Japan and South Korea referred to this way in the International Relations context
Thangoman@reddit
Japan, Korea and Taiwan is a bit longer than just saying that
MidnightNinja9@reddit
Lol, you're saying this while you have Milei in power LMAO
Thangoman@reddit
Yeah I also think hes a completely useless clown
FMLwtfDoID@reddit
You’re honestly the first account I’ve seen claiming to be from/or living in Argentina that hates that dude. I was beginning to wonder
Thangoman@reddit
Most Argentine people in english language sites come from richer much more pro Milei areas
FMLwtfDoID@reddit
Makes sense. I apologize for presuming. Our country’s leaders are trying to kill us all and we still have to show up for work on Monday and go about our days.
PushforlibertyAlways@reddit
Venezuelan oil hitting the market would be good for the world and drive down prices. A change in government is in everyone's interest.
Sargento_Porciuncula@reddit
Removing sanctions would have the same effect
PushforlibertyAlways@reddit
We are not required to trade with other countries.
Sargento_Porciuncula@reddit
Then don't.
You don't need to block the rest of the world to do it, though.
RandomGenName1234@reddit
Push for Fascism Always with the dogwater take.
PushforlibertyAlways@reddit
Lol, fascism is recognizing that other countries don't care about Venezuela and that a stable country would be beneficial to many across the world.
RandomGenName1234@reddit
Only reason it's 'unstable' is because of US interference.
J-Dawg_Cookmaster@reddit
So you're in favour of imperialism over liberty? Might need to change your username
PushforlibertyAlways@reddit
What?
Firstly, what liberty do the people of Venezuela have? They are starving to death under a dictatorship.
Secondly, "imperialism" is not just when countries do things you don't like in geopolitics.
Thirdly, odd to call being crying about imperialism, Venezuela is an imperial entity already.
BurstYourBubbles@reddit
Americans use a different definition
MidnightNinja9@reddit
Lol, so steal Venezuela's oil as it will be "good for the World" great logic !
simonbleu@reddit
Can you imagine if another country said " we are tired of drugs coming from the us, we will shoot their boats and send covert agents there"? The smallest bomb they would shoot at everyone else in the name of freedom would be the size of their ego
ysirwolf@reddit
Somehow we’ll end up finding out he has an offshore secret bank account in Venezuela
jenny_905@reddit
USA isn't really part of any real international community.
MidnightNinja9@reddit
Because Netanyahu owns Trump and he can do all he wishes. Netanyahu needs to take Maduro out of power since he's the only South American leader to call him out on his genocide in such a way
redditing_away@reddit
Not everything is about Israel. I very much doubt Netanjahu gives a shit about Maduro, since "calling him out" has no meaning, weight or consequences. Besides, Colombia's Petro is far more outspoken and his words carry more weight, not being a dictator and all that. No one really cares what Maduro has to say, so why would anyone, Israel included, really bother?
It's rather one of Trump's lunatic ideas for whatever reason. Maybe his appreciation of the opposition leader (forgot her name) to dedicate her Nobel peace prize to both her people and him personally.
MidnightNinja9@reddit
Unfortunately everything is about Israel. Not any good Jews/Israelis that live just like peaceful Christians, but the ones in power that often have bad intentions.
Like Netanyahu said, they can reach anyone at any time in any part of the World, there are rumours that Maduro has Jewish roots himself and extreme zionists hate that.
The first to benefit (if overthrowing of Maduro is successful) will be Israel, I can almost be 100% sure of that. They will never go for Milei or any other authoritarian leaders like Nayib Bukele that has banned all elections, it''s because they're all fine with the genocide that's going on in Gaza and allow the US do all they want to aid Netanyahu.
redditing_away@reddit
No it's not and to claim that it is is borderline schizophrenic. There's no Jewish world conspiracy.
Who gives a shit about some rumours? Maduro is completely irrelevant when it comes to politics, and Gaza in particular, and he himself is shunned by most other countries on this planet. What he thinks about Israel carries as much weight as that of the local lunatic screaming that the world is going to end - next to none.
Benefit how? Again, what Maduro or Venezuela thinks has zero repercussions on Israel or anyone else not in their direct neighborhood. It's as important to Israel as North Korea or Andorra is.
Also why do you think Israel would be after their oil? Israel's campaign in Gaza didn't stop for a lack of money, they got plenty of that.
Maduro also isn't exactly stopping the US from aiding Israel, is he?
They don't go after Milei or Bukele because they simply don't care or rather support what they're doing. What they're up to also has zero repercussions on Israel.
That Trump is somewhat fixated on Venezuela is far more likely to be influenced by the flourishing drug trade Venezuela engages in, the recent Nobel price shenanigans or simple greed for lower oil prices. None of which are coming from or originating in Israel. It's the same crazy idea as wanting to buy Greenland, get the Panama canal back or making Canada the 51st state.
You're vastly overestimating Israel's influence and vastly underestimating Trump's own idiocy.
MidnightNinja9@reddit
I can only partially agree.
However the influence is huge. Look how Trump acts towards Netanyahu. Look at how Russia and even Belarus was treated when Russia invaded Ukraine... UEFA and FIFA won't even fine Israel and Eurovision also does their best to keep Israel in.
AIPAC is another organisation, the influence is literally everywhere. Even the German AFD has their own Israeli backed branch, and I won't even mention countless of Hanukkah candles being lit or how Geert Wilders or Javier Milei put Israel above their very own nations, literally every single time.
o_teu_sqn@reddit
Right but the timings man...as if he was heard somewhere...
SurturOfMuspelheim@reddit
That's not true, the President of Colombia literally spoke against Israel and asked to make an international brigade to oppose Israel.
MidnightNinja9@reddit
Venezuela has oil though, so it makes more sense. Also what proof do we have that they won't turn their eyes onto Colombia as well? The Israeli lobby has a strong record of bombing or causing issues in countries near by, once they're done or successful.
Look at Gaza, then Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Yemen
o_teu_sqn@reddit
Bling bling, since that day he public called them 'genocidas' on tv this started to take higher dimensions
Sargento_Porciuncula@reddit
Petro is way more assertive against the genocide than Maduro, but Colômbia has less oil reserves.
Namika@reddit
What do you mean "allowed".
Everything is allowed, there is no enforcement of any global rules.
J-Dawg_Cookmaster@reddit
There's no condemnations, sanctions or diplomatic pressure.
Everyone seems concerned with Russia in Europe and China in Asia, but certain imperialism and international meddling gets the blind eye
LogOutGames@reddit
The "rules" of the so-called "international rules based order", human rights, etc. only apply to Russia, China and african countries. The US and its allies can do whatever they want. This is their privilege for being the Good Guys™
OldPiano6706@reddit
Unless God wants to step in. Seems like He’s pretty opposed to that for some reason.
algaefied_creek@reddit
The Nobel Peace Prize 2025 winner is from Venezuela; is the opposition in exile from Spain, and has welcomed military action to remove the current leadership.
ViolentBeetle@reddit
If I had more faith in Trump and his administration, I would believe him campaigning for Nobel Peace Prize was a brillion psy-op, because so many of his opponents nailed their political sense to celebrating a woman who "stole" it from him - and now they will support Trump's intervention to install her as a president to own him.
Jacinto2702@reddit
Military intervention isn't compatible with peace.
The Nobel Peace Prize is shown to be a joke one more time.
sight_ful@reddit
That's not true. For one example, it took ww2 to end German expansion and have peace. Years of appeasement did not work.
BurstYourBubbles@reddit
Well, war is peace. So, it looks like you're wrong
algaefied_creek@reddit
“Intervention request by the opposition leader who was ousted; and the results of elections where her party has won: ignored”
So war is chaos and chaos is war is more or less the disaster that is this one a’brewin’
imunfair@reddit
Have you thought that maybe her position on those issues is precisely why that rando was given a prestigious western award. Same vibe as if you gave Navalny a Nobel price when he was still alive.

I'm sure Trump would have welcomed military action to remove Biden's leadership lol

I'd bet money there's more countries with covert CIA operations taking place in them than without

Who's gonna stop USA?
EmployAltruistic647@reddit
Nothing. But at least Americans will suffer for their lawlessness. Just as they are unrestrained by law internationally, the abuse commited upon them by their leaders are also unrestrained by law domestically.
Some of them will accept that gleefully while it hurts all of us even outside of USA. But I'd enjoy the scene as the cheers of the Americans who enjoy this bonfire they started turn into howls of horror and pain as the resulting inferno engulfs them and possible much of the world.
EmployAltruistic647@reddit
Because USA has the strongest military by far. All those international rules don't matter when it comes to USA and Americans (and Israel) have long accepted they are better than others and above all rules
It's just a mask off moment now.
Strict_Pie_9834@reddit
It's not. They just can't do anything about it. USA holds all the power
Canukian84@reddit
Aside from everything else, we calling Venezuela a democracy now?
J-Dawg_Cookmaster@reddit
My point is mainly about CIA's modus operandi in sovereign nations, not so much about the current situation. The US isn't interested in Venezuelan well-being and Maduro isn't a reason to allow this type of geopolitical control.
nuttynutdude@reddit
It’s one of those things that is not allowed but by its nature you can’t really enforce it because the whole point is to remain secret or at least with plausible deniability.
Nobody’s gone and announced it proudly like this before, because it’s a bad idea for every conceivable way

I believe when the BRICS Nations do create a new International trade currency..
It will be harder, much harder to impose any sanctions on them States.. that adopt or use the new trade currency.. Trump is steaming about the possibility of this happening..
Nobody thought that the EU would ever have a single currency...
ZhouDa@reddit
Yeah that's a pipe dream. A couple of autocracies and struggling democracies aren't going to unite behind their dislike of the US and make anything lasting out of it. EU works because of shared borders, history and types of government, and they should be looked to as a counterweight to the US rather than whatever BRICS is suppose to be.
Yama_retired2024@reddit
It seems a pipe dream now.. it is going to happen, whether people like it or not..
These Governments are sick of sanctions that can only be applied because the US Dollar is the international trade currency..
When they create and they will a new currency.. these States will use it.. you have the BRICS Nations and others queuing up to join it.. at some point it will happen.. much like all the Crypto currencies are emerging..
Michael_Gibb@reddit
Somehow, the meaning of the word 'covert' seems to have missed Trump.
By definition, a covert operation is one that is not known to the public or openly acknowledged. But by confirming these operations, Trump is making them known, which means that technically, they're no longer covert.
Of course, with the Maduro regime knowing that CIA operations are occurring in Venezuela, it makes it all that much easier to identify and stop them. So Trump has just thrown a spanner in the works of the very machine that he's running.
imunfair@reddit
I mean if it was anyone else I might think it was a bluff to throw the regime into chaos searching for moles that don't exist. But being Trump he probably did just brag about a real operation.
