Upgrading a 1660ti to a 5070

Hello I am pretty new to tinkering with PC's and i was wondering if the 5070 would pretty much just be plug and play with the power cable that I have on my 1660ti?

What's your PSU? And you will need to DDU the driver regardless

Display driver Uninstaller, if you google ddu it should come up

Gotcha, never heard of that. I recently upgraded from a 10 series to 50 series and didn't do that, just plugged in and downloaded the drivers, should I do something or did I do something wrong? From what I can see online people are saying it's fine but just wanted to make sure I won't have issues down the line or something

If youre not having issues it should be fine, but its just good to avoid potential driver instability/conflict

650 watt I assume? Should be fine then, but you'll need to use the cable adapter that comes with the GPU

I went from a 1660ti to 5070. It was pretty plug and play. I didnt even DDU. I already had 2/3 driver packages. I just downloaded the last driver, I think the RTX one. The 1660ti was in a new build so I had a new PSU with the single cable.

Oh cool did you jump between brands or would it even make a difference? Im planning on going with nvidia from evga.

Be careful here, all 5070s are nvidia. Its primarily the cooling systems that differ.

No. I think the 1660ti was from a asus prebuilt. Its a blower style. And the 5070 is a non OC Asus Prime.

I have Corsair RM 650X I have no extra cables I am not sure what I did with them. I am considering the MSI 5070 12gb.

If you have no spare pcie cables youll either need to get more from corsair and be sure they match your psu or get a new psu. Using cables meant for a different could cause damage.

Ok, so what PCIe cables do you have now? If you're missing what you need, you can order replacements from Corsair. RM650X uses Type 3/4 cables. MSI makes a lot of 5070s. You'll need to provide an exact model name, or a link.
