Chicago, Las Vegas, Milwaukee and Waukesha. I’d love to visit one of the national parks, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, the Hamptons, Boston, and Alaska.

Married a yank moved to Long Island and had a daughter on the 4th of July lol. Other than NYS I’ve been to Pennsylvania (loved it) Connecticut (nice) Massachusetts (weirdly the most friendly place I’ve been) and Florida (not for me).

Also married a yank and currently living in Delaware about 10 minutes from the border with Pennsylvania. Agree Florida’s not for me either, other than that I’ve been to (mostly before moving) Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, New York (City and State), Ohio, Minnesota, and both Carolinas

Moved here. If you're thinking of coming now, don't. The scenery is nice, but nothing you can't find elsewhere. The cities are usually pretty smelly and busy and lack culture (unless greasy food is a culture). Small town America has been ruined by Maga. It's all a bit sad.

Landed somewhere in US, plane refuelled, took off and continued to Mexico. This was probably the most amount of time I'll spend on US soil mainly, because of this... https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting

Are you sure? I understand there’s a lot of shootings but the US is a massive country. When I was walking round I didn’t feel in danger.
View on Reddit #69115182

HandToeKneeUK@reddit

The size is irrelevant. When parents can't buy trainers that light up because it would make their children a target during a school shooting, firearms are an issue. They have too many guns and too many unhinged people. You are in the camp of 'it hasn't happened to me, so it won't happen to me'. Did you even look at the website???
View on Reddit #69115588

Some-Air1274@reddit

Yes 100% it’s crazy. My point is you are unlikely to be affected by this on a quick trip.
View on Reddit #69115680

HandToeKneeUK@reddit

It's irrelevant the amount of time spent there. Go there, risk getting shot anywhere, at any time by a civilian or a government worker. There is literally footage of an English kid getting shot by police after getting his truck stuck. They said he had weapons, but he had a rock hammer the size of the one in Shawshank. The Micromorts probably accumulate upto: Whitewater rafting, on coke, with a mace instead of a paddle.

Completely agree - in America I've been to New York and San Francisco and that was enough... Canada I've been to four times and it's never enough, I've spent a lot of time on Vancouver Island and the Rockies (Jasper has my heart), been over to Calgary and the Badlands and Head Smashed In, Toronto was fun, even some of the less touristy route like Edmonton was preferable to America. I'm finally going to Montreal and Québec next year!

Stephen_Dann@reddit

I have crossed the US Canadian border at about a dozen places. There is a noticeable difference between the state of the two countries, Canada being generally better. Feels safer, the roads are better maintained, people are less in your face. That last point, Canadians are a bit more restrained and don't tell you their life story in a shop queue, with way too much detail

Florida twice when I was a kid. Loved it. Disney wasn't even the highlight, the Vans skatepark and Cocoa beach were. Absolutely brilliant. I also went to New Hampshire when I was 12 because I've got relatives there and genuinely think it's somewhere I could see myself living. People were really nice and weren't the loud brass Americans that people assume you'll meet. Really interesting part of the country as well.

Previously married to a Texan. At least twice a year would head over there, used to fly to Houston then transfer to Corpus Christi. Texas was OK, it was too bloody hot though. Whilst we were married we spent time in Seattle, her company were opening an office there, and she was earmarked to head the office. We went over five times to look around and find somewhere to live. I loved Seattle and was upset when the job fell through and we didn’t make the move. Have visited a few places, Vermont, Boston, Vegas, and San Francisco. I liked Boston, I hated Vegas, San Fran was nice. I’ve never had a bad experience in the states, I’ve found it to be more or less enjoyable.

I've done 27 states and a few of them (California, Nevada, Arizona, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Hawaii and Florida) multiple times. I've always had a great time. I love coming there. I'm planning to come for the first time on my own next year. I'm a lady who loves football so I'm hoping to come and see a couple of World Cup games.

I've probably been to America an above-average amount? Maybe? I don't know. But I've been on holidays to New York, Massachusetts, Colorado, and Florida; and I've been to DC, North Carolina, Maryland, Washington, Oregon, Texas and Nevada for work. (From Nevada we then also drove out to Arizona to go sightseeing). Plus getting a connecting flight in SLC, but that probably doesn't count as "visiting Utah". In small doses, I love working with Americans. Brits can be pretty grumpy and gloomy; from time to time we all need to be as brash and positive as Americans. Too much gets grating, but it's good for any culture to shake up its assumptions.

My other half is American, so have been to a load of places Florida - went in 2001 and did my pilots licence there. It was pretty weird, but mostly friendly. Too hot and humid for comfort New Jersey - been there loads, there’s good and bad bits. The boardwalk is fun, the beaches can be beautiful and off-season coastal towns always have a kind of dormant beauty New York - Went to the city 15 years ago and it was awesome. Went back this year and it felt different. Much more intense and stank of cannabis pretty much everywhere. This may be explained by my kid wanting to be in and around Times Square the whole time. Great, fun restaurants and amazing shows and museums. Central Park is incredible Connecticut - first time I tried Taco Bell (deeply disappointing) on a road trip to… Massachusetts - went to a baseball game, drank beer, was pretty nice Nevada - Las Vegas is weird, would never go there by choice but it’s not a bad place to have in-laws to visit. Too hot in the summer, much more expensive in the last couple of years. Great shows, amazing restaurants (and plenty of shitty ones). Mexican food is fucking delicious Arizona - Grand Canyon is everything it’s built up to be. Just spectacular and huge and beautiful Alaska - Loved it, the scale of everything just blows your mind. Whales and eagles and salmon and bears and totem poles and fantastic seafood. Actually worth spending a week on a massive boat with a bunch of people who like cruises California - Had to go to Disney. Better than I expected. Haven’t seen the rest of it I think that’s it

This was quite a long time ago. New Jersey for work. Not particularly inspiring. Had a couple of hours in New York City. It seemed rather old fashioned. Went up the Empire State Building. Awesome. Saw the original Twin Towers. Had a great meal in Chinatown. Then back to Newark airport and the horrible flight back to the UK. If you are wondering, the UK is currently an extremely depressing place to be.

I've been to most of the vaguely touristy bits plus some places that definitely aren't. New York - Fine, some good touristy things to do, but it's basically just London and I have that at home. Florida - Awesome, so much to do and see. Except Miami which feels a bit seedy. Vegas - Used to be good in the 00s, but has now got way too expensive. You have to be prepared to take it for what it is. Texas - Very chilled out and relaxed and people are super friendly. New Orleans - Pretty crazy but in a fun way. Would have been a great place for a 'lads holiday' with hindsight. Boston/New England - Fine, very pretty, but nothing amazing. Washington - Shit hole with 1 Square mile of amazing tourist attractions plonked in the middle. San Francisco - Not very nice. Some cool things to see there (GGB, Alcatraz etc) but so many homeless and some extremely dodgy areas. And apparently it has got a lot worse in the 15 years since I went. Alaska - Absolutely beautiful. Incredible sights. But not much to actually do there other than walking and admiring the view, so it depends what you like.

I’ve only been to NYC and have mixed feelings about it. The airport staff were some of the most ignorant and horrifically rude people I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting. The city itself was impressive due to the scale of things but I found it to be quite dirty and it certainly isn’t what you could call beautiful. There seemed to be a lot of poverty amongst the wealth. Drug addicts, drunks and lots of homelessness. There was always piles of rubbish “garbage” bags everywhere. We have some great memories from the trip but I was as impressed and underwhelmed in equal measures and wouldn’t rush to go back.

You couldn't pay me to go there. I know a lot who have though, all sorts of trips around all sorts of states. One of my colleagues last year did a road trip across a load of southern states which is maybe the most unusual of everyone I know, said the biggest culture shock was the extreme and open racism (they are white) and the size of people and portions. Most people I know go to places like Disneyworld, California, Vegas, New York that kind of thing - the big tourist hotspots. My brother travelled down the west coast from Canadian cousins down to an aunt in California over a few weeks in the 00s, he liked that.

I went solo back in ‘22. Visited Las Vegas, Arizona, San Francisco and Ohio. Loved Las Vegas; I was only 18 when I visited otherwise I’d have gotten very drunk. I wore a white suit, ate at Hell’s Kitchen in Paris Las Vegas and just thought I was the absolute shit. San Francisco was interesting but felt a bit backwards (burning bins, big homeless issue.) I even got talking to a black police officer regarding the differences between the US and Britain when it comes to racism for about twenty minutes. She told me that she was surprised I even smiled at her, as a white man, which was a bit concerning. Arizona was just a vibe and Ohio was Ohio. Not much else to say.

I spent a summer there nearly 30 years ago - worked for a while in Pennsylvania, then did a big tour - Boston, up to Niagara falls then New York, DC, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, a very messy night out in Juarez, Vegas and wound up in LA for a week, before a Deriveaway road trip up to see a friend in Wisconsin. Then on to stay with friends back in Virginia, before going back to NYC for a couple of nights and flying home. Really mad summer. Lots of fun. Met some lovely people, mostly other internationals, but some really decent Americans and too. Saw a wild range of wealth to grinding poverty that frankly alarmed me, even back then. Saw incredible countryside and had a terrific, intense time overall - many wonderful memories. I've had plenty of chances to go back since but I'm really not interested. I know things won't match up to my precious, rose-tinted memories and I don't want to taint them with a modern reality that's as conflicted and broken as it is.

Aye. Seattle, San Diego, Austin, Nashville (also Gatlinburg), New Orleans, Atlanta, Boston, drove across Maine and spent a bit of time in Kentucky with relatives. I might have forgotten some. I liked all of it but probably New Orleans best.

4 times in total, all when I was young with my parents. Been to Orlando, FL 3 times as a kid. I'm a big fan of roller coasters, and I'd love to go back and take my kids (but only if things calm down over there) LA, San Fan, and Vegas all in one trip. We went to Six Flags, and did a helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon, I don't remember much from San Fran other than Alcatraz and that windy road.

Spent four years there growing up. Lived in Pennsylvania and Texas and travelled to 30 or so states on road trips in the summers. Fond memories of all the amazing scenery and landscapes. Never made it to the West Coast though. Been back for various reasons a handful of times. Much of my experience of growing up there just doesn’t translate for my fellow Brits at all despite us all being bathed in US cultural imperialism via tv and the internet.

I've road-tripped from Miami to New Orleans and back, stopping at multiple places along the way. Unfortunately, it was more of a drinking holiday, so it was drive during the day, get to a cheap motel, and find the local bars. It was fun, but I'd certainly rather do it differently and actually explore the sights.
