fr33bird317@reddit
Why did they do this?
amazingmaple@reddit
Because they were working on the truck. It's a. OSHA requirement
fr33bird317@reddit
Well that is terrible.
amazingmaple@reddit
What are you even talking about? Explain to me why it's terrible? I have a feeling you don't know what lockout tagout means.
fr33bird317@reddit
I have no clue what it is obviously. It’s terrible because there were times in my OTR past I slept in my truck while repairs were getting done.
amazingmaple@reddit
Lockout tagout us where a mechanic or anyone working on a truck or piece of equipment literally locks it out by removing keys and putting a tag saying for the reason so someone can't start up the vehicle while they are working on it without the mechanics knowledge. People have been killed for because of not doing a lockout tagout. The driver doesn't have to leave the truck.
fr33bird317@reddit
So they are able to stay in the truck. I guess it’s not so terrible.
Silvertails555@reddit
Not at loves. At loves we require all drivers to give us the keys and there not allowed in the tractor while it’s in our bay. Unfortunately a lot of drivers can’t speak or read English(this isn’t me trying to bash them) and try to move their truck while I’m underneath working.
CheesE4Every1@reddit
Probably need to watch that super trucker there.
SufficientWhile5450@reddit
It is, but not to that extent
But it should be to this extent because so many drivers got 16 spare keys lol
zodiac628@reddit
So someone knows another person is working on the vehicle and doesn’t run them over etc. I inspect fuel trucks daily and use these because I don’t want my ass ran over when I’m under it or have someone turn the damn pto on and me get wrapped up in a pto shaft.
CheesE4Every1@reddit
Lock out tag out, my guy.
hotdog11inch@reddit
Because some dumbass probably drove off with someone working on their truck
zombie_trucker@reddit
There's been a few I've heard of. Worst was a guy woke up from a nap and decided he was done being in the shop so he took off while a tech was under the trailer. It's part of the reason some places no longer allow us in the trucks while they do work.
ShermanPanzer2@reddit
I’ve had to get tires at a few loves and was curious why they did that and figured it was someone doing some dumb shit while the tech was working. Glad to know I was right
zombie_trucker@reddit
I was curious and asked because I have 2 cats and like to avoid having to take them out of the truck. Normally if its a trailer issue most places let me drop it and pull forward but if its a truck issue they will either make me get out or take all keys.
swjones92@reddit
How do you manage having the cats if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve considered taking mine with me but I haven’t really had any good ideas on managing her shitter and all that.
LuffysRubberNuts@reddit
I had a scare one night when I was still on fleet repair, I was just doing a bit inspection and the driver decided to just hop in and start the truck while I was in between the two drive axels. We had the keys but apparently he had made his own copy
midnightstreetlamps@reddit
That's fuckin terrifying, because even if you scream, they probably ain't gonna hear shit over the truck running.
TaperingRanger9@reddit (OP)
That's exactly what he said happened. How tf does that happen though like wtf. We are supposed to be professionals
hotdog11inch@reddit
Same reason it wrote in different languages
screamingriffin@reddit
I work for a trucking company that has mandatory English proficiency testing to get a job, and truckers still manage to do the dumbest stuff.
hackingmule@reddit
Have you looked around the truck stop at your fellow "professionals"? I wouldn't let a driver anywhere near the ignition if I'm under the hood.
TaperingRanger9@reddit (OP)
Truth be told. Sucks though. I wish all of us were true professionals
Mountain_Fuzzumz@reddit
I'd settle for more than half at this point.
cheesenuggets2003@reddit
But how would folks afford to purchase rubber ducks if trucker wages were that high?
BouncingSphinx@reddit
Same reason some “professionals” make U-turns across an interstate I guess.
angrydeuce@reddit
Definitely. TagOut policy exists for a reason, and that reason is usually because someone was maimed or killed due to it not being tagged out.
Gilgamesh2000000@reddit
This not even funny because it happens
wordswordswords55@reddit
Had a guy fill hydraulic tank with diesel .....theres reasons it exists, forklift actually ran ok with diesel instead of hydraulic fluid
TruckinSammy@reddit
TA fixed a flat for me a few weeks ago and the tech asked for my keys. I gave him the one I usually give to the shop and asked if he minded if I kept the engine running since it was hot outside. He didn’t have a problem.
takarta@reddit
am I missing something here or is someone so fucken noob talking shit about lockout tagout? It's standard, any place that DOESN'T do this should be reported for safety violation. Damn kids
dtbrake@reddit
Lmao I didn't know people used those things. Hell most of the time I doubt they could even be found
SeaRow556@reddit
Why not just air cuff?
Wadester58@reddit
That's because we let people with no common sense drive trucks
allplay@reddit
Some can't even speak English!
TellTaleTimeLord@reddit
So you're implying that all people who don't speak English are dumb?
dontdoxmebro2@reddit
Devil’s advocate: dumb technically means unable to speak.
TellTaleTimeLord@reddit
That wasn't the intended meaning
Wadester58@reddit
No Habla
ChipChurp@reddit
Yeah I've seen it too. This is a good rule seen people get run over unfortunately. Another one I like too is at shipping receiving places they take your air line coupling and put a lock on it so you don't take off and say someone is still inside on a forklift . Seen an injury like that before and it wasn't good. All these may seem silly to you but it's for everyones safety
Aggressive-Oil173@reddit
Thanks to some dope who tried to pull off too early
Lentezdelvalley@reddit
Surprised you got to sit in the truck. In August I had a blow out and when they came I had to be out of the truck. Took about two hours for him to replace the tire. So I just walked around inside Lowe’s & did some window shopping.
amazingmaple@reddit
It's called lockout tagout and is an OSHA requirement.
bquinho@reddit
Does the driver normally sit in the cab while being repaired? Seems odd. Don’t these places have a drivers lounge.
amazingmaple@reddit
It was a Mobil truck repair I'm guessing. But is still a requirement to do a lockout tagout no matter what
im-not-a-fakebot@reddit
Yeah you’re supposed to lockout the battery or the ignition, never seen someone lockout a steering wheel lol. I’ve seen those covers though as a warning for operators.
But only time lockouts are actually used everytime is working on/inside industrial equipment or when osha/safety is coming by
NJPokerJ@reddit
They probably do but it's not just for the drivers. Another mechanic might get in it and try to move it.
ChiTruckDGAF@reddit
I'd rather be in my sleeper playing video games and napping.
icsh33ple@reddit
A rule paid for in blood.
amazingmaple@reddit
Unfortunately that's how most rules become to be
Negative1Positive2@reddit
Loves takes your keys and kicks you out of the truck, so at least you can still sit there I suppose
blipsnchiiiiitz@reddit
I'm surprised they let you stay in the truck. We don't let drivers in the shop at all, which means they can't be in their trucks while we work on them. We have a drivers lounge, or you can go to a hotel.
anotheronedoesit@reddit
Some amazon shit here
Sea-Count-5298@reddit
We're all supposed to be proficient in English. Why the Spanish?.
TellTaleTimeLord@reddit
Because even if you speak a second language, you still have to translate it in your brain lol. Being able to see your native language is still easier
derpmcturd@reddit
At least they let you stay in the truck, most Loves dont.
CashWideCock@reddit
I knew a guy many years ago who was a mechanic at the T/A in Redding, CA. He got ran over and killed while under a truck placing a jack.
CashWideCock@reddit
It’s called lockout/tagout, it’s standard procedure in the industrial world.
deezkeys098@reddit
They took my keys and told me I couldn’t be inside the truck and all they were doing was a mudflap replacement
CuriosTiger@reddit
And what do you think happens to a guy who gets backed over while changing a mudflap?
FlatbedtruckingCA@reddit
Well clearly you cant be trusted..
DumatRising@reddit
Yeah I just have to look at the dumb shit some of yall do on the road to know this is a good idea for them.
Tbh when I started they told me most drivers have less than a year of experience, I thought no way that's true cause thats crazy. Now a days I believe it.
chris_gnarley@reddit
Wish our “mechanics” did this at our yard. No matter how many times you red tag a truck or trailer, someone will rip it off and drive it because we have over 70 P&D drivers and only about 30-40 total trucks and maybe 15-20 trailers. Not to mention the line haul guys using the same trucks and trailers. It’s a disaster.
USS_peepee@reddit
First day, huh?
TaperingRanger9@reddit (OP)
Ive had a repair truck come out countless times and have never seen this once
Decorus_Somes@reddit
Run out of fingers?
disturbedrailroader@reddit
Little known industry secret: if you put your hands in your pockets you can count to 11
Decorus_Somes@reddit
I have to use my toes
CheesE4Every1@reddit
I use my teeth.
Meatball546@reddit
Happens a lot in modern times.
chevx@reddit
Rules are made because of some dumb dumbass that did something wrong.
Alot of rules are just common sense but the sense isn't so common🤣🤣
Violet_Apathy@reddit
At least they let you in the vehicle at all. Many places don't even allow that.
shadybays@reddit
Lockout tagout
AccomplishedHour8399@reddit
Your truck has been a bad girl!
BouncingSphinx@reddit
Nothing wrong with a little LOTO, though this seems maybe a bit excessive.
TripleTrucker@reddit
Lmao?
