Excerpt: "Of all the irresponsible, ill-conceived, short-sighted, counter-productive, cynical, philistine and downright dumb ideas I’ve heard in my time writing about Dallas, the prospect of razing City Hall stands alone. Demolishing architect I.M. Pei’s iconic building would be an act of epic mismanagement indefensible on aesthetic, environmental, financial or moral grounds. "

My take, Lamster is 100% right about this one. Talk of tearing down city hall is just stupid. The people pushing for this should absolutely be laughed out of the room.  Here's another thing, voters already approved tens of millions of dollars in maintenance repairs for city hall on at least the last two bond programs. What happened to that money?!

The last bond package didn’t have repair money afaik. They floated it as a proposition and it died a horrible death at city council 😔 Whatever it went to, I’m not sure, because I can assure you the building still sucks to work in lol. There’s no good reason for me to run a space heater in the middle of a Texas summer but for the fact that they have no idea how to properly manage the indoor climate. I do think the area around city hall could be a lot better developed and utilized, but I do like the architecture of the building, and it’d be cheaper to fix the damn place than build something new (and frankly, given the city’s atrocious track record with its properties, I’d rather they just lease some downtown skyscraper and let building management be someone else’s responsibility). And for god’s sake improve the plaza so it’s not a gigantic nuclear hot cooktop during the summer

You are right. The 2024 bond package did not include money for City Hall, but the 2017 did.

No one cares. Especially not our Mavs Casino Overlords. They will buy, beat or bribe their way to whatever they want. #FuckTheAdelsons

As Lamster says, there are plenty of much less controversial places the Adelsons could put a new stadium in downtown. I can show you 10 locations in downtown that would be just as good.
