Body piercings

I was in college through the middle- late 90’s and had friends who had gotten piercings in unconventional areas of the body (basically other than ear lobes): nose, eyebrow, tongue, nipples, etc… Who on here still has their “unconventional” piercings? If not, when and why did you stop?
Routine_Mortgage_499@reddit
P.A. still have it.
callsitlikeiseenit@reddit
Had a spike labret that kept getting irritated with every kiss, etc. Also rubbed my gums down on the inside of my mouth to the point my dentist commented. One time after a particularly annoying irritation (which probably would have led to infection) I caved and removed it.
mercuryven@reddit
Never had any, but it seems like everyone on Reddit that posts a selfie has a nose ring
GreatOne1969@reddit
Agreed. It wasn’t a thing in the Midwest, at least in my group.
mmrocker13@reddit
Really? I'm from the midwest, and it deffo was where I was... where are you from?
Whole_Craft_1106@reddit
Midwest also here. No one I knew had nose piercings back in the day. Seems its been more of a thing in younger gens for the past 10 years.
mmrocker13@reddit
I grew up in Iowa, which def was not the hippest of the midwest :D What was happening in my area I wonder :D
sugahack@reddit
Eastern Iowa and I had several friends with nurse studs though I think the eyebrow was more popular
mmrocker13@reddit
Oh, eyebrow def. I've had eyebrow piercing fomo since about 1993.
Eastern IA here as well. QC.
sugahack@reddit
CR for me
mmrocker13@reddit
Enjoying all five of the seasons :-)
ShinyLizard@reddit
i beg to differ, it just wasn’t a thing for your group. One of the best piercers in the country was in Madison, WI for several years. I travelled & had him do four piercings in one day, which was a lot to heal. He was one of the few people doing translobes, that’s going through the earlobe the long way instead of across. I tried to heal those for over a year & had to give up b/c my lobes weren’t detached enough. My mom even complimented me on the ears. In some ways, I wish I’d paid to have my earlobes detached a little more and have it all redone, but my lobes have too much scar tissue now.
ciaran668@reddit
My sister and her best friend still have their nose rings. I still have my three earrings in my left ear and the one in my right.
LaLaLaLateBar@reddit
I've got the same - three earrings in my left and one in my right. I've never pierced anything else...I got tattoos instead.
Tndnr82@reddit
I never had many physical qualifiers when it came to dating, I'm married now, but nose and eyebrow piercings were a no go for me. Strangely this only applies to top side nostril piercings. I don't mind septum piercings. Kinks are wide and varied.
Alltheprettydresses@reddit
I wouldn't say it was a kink, but I had a huge attraction to a guy who had the nose to ear chain. I thought it was the hottest thing ever (mid 90s) and inspired my piercings.
mercuryven@reddit
Oh my. I forgot about the nose to ear chains
Repulsive-Tea6974@reddit
31 year PA.
ponchoacademy@reddit
Many years ago I dated a guy with a PA and a Jacobs Ladder... I still think of him fondly 😏
I just have the standard ear piercings from when I was a baby. Wish I didn't have them at all cause I hate hate that I have extra holes in my body.
But on men? I'm All. In. I look so square, most guys with piercings think they're not my type tho...🥺
filtersweep@reddit
Same- like literally a 31 year old PA. It was done after hours in a biker tattoo ‘parlor’ and everyone remaining wanted to watch. I was a 20-something kid.
After it was done seemed like all sorts of people wanted to see it at parties, etc…..
The irony is that I have no other piercings, though I am rather heavily tattooed.
Repulsive-Tea6974@reddit
Also…. I had a tongue ring, but kept biting it I ate. Had a bellybutton ring for about 15 years, but my dog was excited about going for a car ride. He reared up and when he came down he ripped out the ring with his teeth. A few ear piercings, but some were neglected and just closed up.
silent3@reddit
Had one about 35 years ago but took it out after eight or nine years. Still have a hafada and a tongue piercing from the same time.
Apprehensive-Ant2141@reddit
My husband had one for the first 2 years we were together but took it out because my body didn’t like it.
classicsat@reddit
I never even did a tattoo.
My sister did, a lip ring and a career as a restaurant server.
stupiduselesstwat@reddit
I had a nose ring, pierced tongue and pierced eyebrow along with assorted ear piercings. And a navel piercing.
My skin one day decided it didn't like piercings. So now I have a piercing scar in my eyebrow and bellybutton.
I don't wear anything at all, not even earrings because my skin just freaks the hell out.
Per_sephone_@reddit
I just got mine in the last year - nipples and pussy
LastCenturyModern@reddit
I still have my nose piercing I got in 1997. It was a shitty job done by an apprentice and is a little too low on the nostril. His technique was garbage and I almost passed out. My ex-step-father disowned me over it, told me I was a disgrace to the family. That was fun. I’ve refused to get rid of it because I see it as a badge of honor for all the unnecessary pain I went through 😂. I change it out quite a bit from different rings and studs depending on my mood.
--Uberwench--@reddit
Pierced my nose myself in 1988. Do not recommend doing that.
scmoops@reddit
Same. Twice in fact. Ice and a sterilized safety pin. Still have them both 30 years later.
--Uberwench--@reddit
I just drilled through with stud. No ice. No sterilization. Just stupidity.
scmoops@reddit
That’s not stupidity, that’s the GenX way.
mmrocker13@reddit
Hahahahahahaha my gay ex-Boyfriend (srry--he is referred to as Gay Ex-Boyfriend Name, to distinguish him from the other two with the same name :D ) tried very hard to pierce his own with this little disposable plastic thing... he couldn't do it. I couldn't do it. He didn't trust me with a needle and a cork block. We ended up going to this tattoo parlor to have it done, and I got a tattoo. We were both 16. (which seemed REALLY OLD at the time :p) This was in 1992.
Came back to my folks' house later and were hanging out when my mom noticed his nose suddenly, and she clutched her pearls and was like "GayExBoyfriendFirstName Lastname... WHAT DID YOU DOOO???" He took one look at her and said, "You should see what your daughter did." The bus was coming, and he just shoved me right under it. It was pants weather. I could have gone another 6 months, and she never would have noticed.
I mean, TBF, she KNEW I always wanted one, and I had a job and paid for my own car shit and other stuff, so it's not like I used her money... but still :D I thought the outrage was a bit excessive :D
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit
What tattoo did you get?
As far as the nose, I did my own by just ramming an onyx stud through my nose. Just a small pop, and it went through. I took it out not long after because it got infected (imagine that!).
mmrocker13@reddit
:D I would happily pierce anybody else with whatever they handed me, but I wouldn't have let anyone do mine. I am too much a germaphobe. And god, when i learned how gross piercing guns were...ded.
Hahaha...it was a crescent moon and bands of stars on my ankle. Yah, 92-96 was a solid "crescent moon" era :D) Still have it. I never changed/covered any of my first ones (the stylized sun on the inside of the same ankle, and ooooooh the kanji low back), because they are absolutely a product of their era (so, yah, cringey in many cases), but also so so so a product of who I was. There's just this intense amount of connection to the emotions and intent of the person that was. It just evokes.
But it's also ASS UGLY :D so...what do you do? :D
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit
Nice. My first tattoo was a hand poke on my shoulder as a tribute to Kurt, the day after he died (a circle with a K. and underneath in wonky ass script said 'Kurt is Dead'). I was seventeen, and I wore that ugly ass thing until I was 46 when I covered it with a Gonzo double fist knife.
That was the only one I had covered. I have a dragon on my forearm, a White Zombie zombie below my neck on my back, a one-eyed cartoon guy on my calf.
Also, have a dark mark from the chapter art, and the card suits on my outer arm like Dave Navarro, but two of mine are red.
No_Lifeguard747@reddit
😳🚌 Ouch! Not cool, GEBFNLN!😊
OkGeologist2229@reddit
Wait, this IS my story too except im 1995. I still buy small.studs for it, not giving it up
lazyrainydaze@reddit
I got my tongue pierced in high school, I think I took it out probably about 5 yrs later?! And I ended up getting my nose pierced on my 40th bday, which is still in. Along with my ear piercings and my tragus piercing which I got in like 2006.
unclejoe1917@reddit
I bet some of those belly button piercings don't look quite as cute as they used to lol.
GrowThangs@reddit
I still have mine, and can confirm. It's not cute today.
zeldasusername@reddit
Mine looks great
jondes99@reddit
The real problem is when the nipple rings catch on the belly button rings.
imnottheoneipromise@reddit
You laugh but…
lovepony0201@reddit
GrowThangs@reddit
I've got eyebrow and clitoral hood. 49 years old and still there.
Informal-Gene-8777@reddit
I had to take out my belly button ring for surgery
Deep-Ad-9728@reddit
I’ve had my nose pierced since 2004. I’ve upgraded to a straight diamond stud instead of corkscrew piercing with a fake stone. Man that thing would hurt when it got caught on a towel loop drying my face!!
bsunwelcome@reddit
The towel thing is why I retired my nostril piercing in the '00s. I like them, but don't want to deal with anything on my face. I've added more cartilage piercings in the last couple years. Had my helix since 1989.
piperma50@reddit
Have had my belly button ring since 95. I think about taking it out occasionally but it's been with me so long. I can't really imagine me without it. And yes, it still looks good..daily crunches help 😉
imrealwitch@reddit
I'm 60 and have my nose pierced
VioletSmiles88@reddit
Still have my tongue piercing. Took out my belly button and nipple piercings when I had babies and never put them back.
Ncfetcho@reddit
I got a horizontal hood piercing when I was a dancer in the 90s. the charm was of a naked woman in a semi famous pose..
I got it just for work.
I told guys I had something all men want... banter a little and get some tips, then step up on the tip rail and say, 'a naked woman between my legs 24 hr a day!"
So this is small town, farm country.
One night, two guys were there, and one says " well lookey there! Hey she's got an EARRING IN THAT THING! "
I said , " Sir, that is not my ear, and if you think it is, you need to be here more than your little friend does 😏.
I had so much fun with that piercing.
BIGepidural@reddit
90s stripper here and same!
I used to love wearing the danglers with jewels or glowing balls/squirly wierd gummy things so that guys could see them on stage and ask for a close up in VIP 😅
Ncfetcho@reddit
YES! Exactly! gotta have a gimmick.
greenbeancounter@reddit
3 piercings in one ear, 4 in the other. Had a tongue piercing briefly in college. Too annoying to keep. Got my nostril done at 40. I’ve had to take them out for MRI’s but I buy the little clear plastic things so nothing closes up. No plans to get rid of any of them.
kalelopaka@reddit
I got my left ear pierced when I was 15(1981) and never felt the need for more.
Survive1014@reddit
We recently flew with some friends. Very straight laced looking, slightly upscaled dressy in appearance couple. Long story short, my friends wife had to be hand scanned as the scanners were picking up her.. multiple.. coochie piercings. It was so.. awkward and way TMI.
Catfiche1970@reddit
I got my nethers wanded last year at Heathrow. The female agent and I exchanged "glances".
CheckIntelligent7828@reddit
Pre-9/11 I went through a metal scanner wearing a full corset under my skirt/business top. My now-husband and I dated long distance and I was picking him up at the gate. The gate agent and I had a long laugh about how much I must like this man while she slowly scanned all that metal, lol.
ExtremeJujoo@reddit
LMAO same happened to me recently!
horrorchic1217@reddit
Hippy_Lynne@reddit
I got my tongue pierced and only took it out because my mouth was too small for a tongue piercing and after 15 years it started to wear away the bone between my bottom front teeth. I should have known better and never gotten it pierced to begin with. We literally had one of the most skilled piercers in the world in my hometown and she told me my mouth was too small, but I ignored her and went to some other idiot who did it anyway. But I have an unusually small mouth/jaw, most people won't have that issue. I have tons of friends who still have theirs as well as other piercings.
Kicktoria@reddit
I did all my non-standard piercings later in life…industrial when I was in my early 30s (it closed up but I’d love to get it done again), eyebrow when I was in my late 30s (still have it), stretched my earlobes to 0g (about 5mm) in my late 40s.
D05wtt@reddit
I’m 55M, straight. Got my ear pierced (higher up the lobe) in ‘88. Half finished tattoo on my ankle in ‘89. And I along with a couple friends were talked into belly button piercings by some random hot girls we met and hung out with at a music festival in ‘98 or ‘99.
Stopped wearing the earring in the mid ‘90s. Never finished my tattoo and no plan to. And the belly button piercing didn’t last a month.
Competitive-Fact-820@reddit
I had to remove all my piercings as my body decided that even the surgical steel was designed to irritate it. I can wear Sterling Silver but that is about it - even 18 carat gold will cause me to get blisters on my skin where it is in contact. So now I will occasionally wear a watch (paint the back of the bezel with nail polish as a barrier and make sure any metal on the strap does not come in to direct contact with my skin) but that is all, don't even wear my wedding ring any more.
Luckily I stopped wearing nail polish and make up a long time ago as a lot of these have metallic compounds in them. I wore a full face of make up earlier this year but only for about 4 hours to attend a work event but even that made my eyes start to itch and I made sure to avoid shimmer or duochrome shadows.
042AF@reddit
Taking one out was a job condition back in the day. :(
SugarsBoogers@reddit
Yep. I got my nose pierced in 1993. My boss made me take it out in 1996.
Need-Discipline@reddit
Was a frequent visitor at the Gauntlet SF (if you know, you know!)
My first was a simple nose piercing followed by a vertical hood pierce and then a horizontal hood.
After a couple of years, had 2 hood piercings removed and instead have had a triangle piercing (and nose!) ever since.
Awesome memories!
firewifegirlmom0124@reddit
I’m 45 and have my nips and nose pierced. I used to have my bellybutton pierced as well as the webbing between my thumb and pointer finger pierced.
KaetzenOrkester@reddit
I let it all grow out in the late 90s/early aughts. I had my fun.
msangieteacher@reddit
Still have my nose piercing, but not tongue or bellybutton. I’ve had 5 kids, no one needs to see my stomach.
sugahack@reddit
I have a labret piercing. I only left it in for 4 months after I had it done and that sucker is still open. Every now and again I'll wear something in it for a day or two and then ignore it for a few more years
Hifi-Cat@reddit
I had a frenum for a long time and nipple. I removed them a while ago. I wish I had chosen a PA.
bookishmama_76@reddit
I had two in my tongue, two barbells in one nipple, two in my tongue & my belly button. I took the belly button & nipple piercings out when I got pregnant and the tongue rings came out for a job.
nerdingout78@reddit
I still have my tongue piercing from 1996 😂 My mom was so pissed when I got it done.
clampion12@reddit
I've had my nose pierced since 1989, did my navel in 96 but took it out in 2019 due to back surgeries, eyebrow for a brief time in 96 but it was too shallow and I didn't like it.
thermal_envelope@reddit
Drive-by body pierce.
dingatremel@reddit
I had a nipple piercing for a long time, but as my career took off in my early 30s or so, everyone could see it through my dress shirts. I’m not sure why I let that embarrass me so much, but it really did.
I would look ridiculous with it in now, but I sure did love it at the time
One-Replacement1676@reddit
Hooked up with a girl who had her taint pierced. That was fun
zeldasusername@reddit
I still have three piercings in each ear , my nose and belly piercing
I did remove the nose for a while thinking it was preventing me from getting work but no it was resume all along so I had it repierced and now I feel like myself again
forgetful_waterfowl@reddit
both nipples in 98 when I was 18, still have them.
00SCT00@reddit
Funny how our generation an earring in the right rear meant you were gay. This generation might have an equivalent marker, green hair and nose ring = ___
MikelarlHaxton@reddit
Septum still in, but belly button is nothing but a scar now
eastcoastpete71@reddit
53 now, I’ve had my apadravya since 1998
Jamie8765@reddit
51 now, I had that done when I was 20, but ended up removing it after a few years due to clean up annoyance. I did keep my 10 bar ladder for 30 years though. I have no visible piercings anymore, and I get a small kick out of thinking sometimes when I see some edgy kid with a couple face holes: "I have more jewelry in my balls than you have in your head."
Whole_Craft_1106@reddit
Never. One in each year.
Wrong_Pen6179@reddit
Only ears for me… one hole in each.
EasyAnteater2265@reddit
Not so much unconventional now, but some too much work except on occasions. That said, first piercing and only one for a while was ear with paper clips in 5th grade in mid 80s. Several of us going back to class trying to play it off. Think Hit Parader magazine was involved. I can assure you there was blood. And detention.
Complex-Stick-6177@reddit
Got my belly button pierced in ‘96. Had it in until 22 weeks into my first pregnancy in 2012. It was closed up when I tried to put it in 6 weeks after the kid was born. Got my helix in ‘98 and still have it. Nose in ‘04 and still have it too.
RainBooksNight@reddit
My sister had most of the unconventionals… at 45 I don’t think she has any of them, anymore.
Carlito2393@reddit
I had a frenum piercing for a few weeks. I took it out one night because a couple of condoms broke (I blamed the barbell). Anyway, I was unable to put the barbell back in the morning after.
I also had ear piercings from the age of 18 to around 27. I stopped wearing them when I was training in judo 5 - 6 days a week and hearing stories of earings getting ripped out from various teachers.
kattrup@reddit
Trigger/TMI genitalia: (46 F) I got a whole slew of genital piercings and my nipples when I was under age, took them out at 26 bc one of my inner labia rings started migrating and it was uncomfortable. I thought my clit ring was "helping" but after I took it out I found out that I had been missing out. I left my nipple rings in for a few more years until my breasts started to become a bit droopy and I didn't like the look.
Unnecessary_Risk0123@reddit
I still have my septum that I got in 2003, my labret from 1999, and my left eyebrow from 1996. My earlobes are 1/2" (I've been slowly stretching them since 2004). I let my nostril, lip and right eyebrow close up. It was too much. LOL
New_Needleworker_473@reddit
I got the eyebrow ring and nose ring. My body rejected the eyebrow ring. My nose still has a hole for the nose ring so I can wear one if I want. If I don't you can't tell I have a nose piercing.
KaeSaid@reddit
I still have my tongue and nose piercings.
BayouVoodoo@reddit
I had a vch that I took out for an MRI many years later. Just never got around to putting the barbell back in and it closed up pretty fast. 🤷♀️
foozballhead@reddit
Lip and tongue gone but nostril stud still works in the office environment.
Unexpected_Cheddar-@reddit
I’ve had my P.A. since forever…52 now. It still surprises new partners because apparently I “don’t look the type.” But at this point it’s just a part of me…and it would feel strange without it. I’ve actually been considering getting more lately too because, why not?!?!
Decent_Shallot_8571@reddit
Still have eyebrow at 50 (
Stopped wearing navel in the past year or so bc iy was getting irritated by wristbands
Stopped wearing earrings in my 20s lol
traveling_gal@reddit
I never got any when I was young. I didn't even get regular lobe piercings until I was 12 because my mom wouldn't take me (my grandma finally did). No tattoos either.
However, within the past 8 or so years I've done 3 tattoos, a second set of lobe piercings, 3 helix, 1 rook, and 1 nostril. I had wanted to do these for so long, but didn't think I was "cool enough". I'm still not cool enough but I don't care!
Mountain_Village459@reddit
I had my belly button, tongue and nipples pierced in 95-96.
I loved them all but then started dating my first husband and he didn’t like them so I took them out. Totally lame on my part.
Recently, I’ve gotten back into them and I’ve gotten 3 of them and I’m obsessed. They are so much cheaper than tattoos and I just like them so much more.
There are 3 more I want to get but I’m making myself wait until these are mostly healed. I think. lol
CinniePig@reddit
My tongue piercing caused me to break a tooth and have to get a ridiculous implant that looks awful, and I got rid of my bellybutton piercing with my first pregnancy. At least I have scared my kids off of tongue piercings!
StarDewbie@reddit
I got my belly ring when I was about 25. I'm about to be 51 in 2 months and I've still got it. :)
Stomach's still flat, so why not, you know?
mmrocker13@reddit
I still have my ear piercings--I have 3 in the left, and 10 running up the side of my right. Nose piercing. Navel, as well. Some days, I stop and think... I've had my navel pierced for well more than 30 years. How the fuck am I old enough to have had a belly button piercing for that long. The ears go back even further (and are as haphazard as one would expect).
I got my first tattoo when I was 16 :D suuuuuuuuuuuper reputable establishment :D Amazingly, I do not, in fact, have Hep C :D
thin_white_dutchess@reddit
I have 3 in one ear, 4 in the other (one at the top). I had my nipples done too, and that was the only professional piercing I had. The nipple rings came out when I had a kid and my boobs got so big they pushed the piercings out. Never put them back in after that.
Had my eyebrow for a minute but decided it didn’t suit me.
Have plenty of tattoos too.
None of it has ever been an issue with work, and I’ve worked in Hollywood, the government, and schools.
Individual_Track_865@reddit
I had to take all of mine out in nursing school :(
Now nobody cares and I’m thinking about adding a few back …
pukekolegs@reddit
Interesting. I added most of mine in nursing school - nose, tongue, belly button, tragus. I only have the tragus now and three lobe piercings in each ear. Guess it depends on the nursing school
Individual_Track_865@reddit
yeah, somehow in West Texas in the 90s they weren't big on things like tattoos and body piercings
imnottheoneipromise@reddit
In Alabama in nursing school in 2007 they made me take out my nose piercing and cover all my tattoos. So fucking stupid. I was in the army (active duty still), so I was always gonna hafta take the nose piercing out in uniform but it bugged me that nursing school was stuoid about it
Miami_Cracker@reddit
I still have my 2g Prince Albert.
imnottheoneipromise@reddit
I still have my nose piercing (nostril not septum). I took my belly ring out when I got pregnant and I just stayed fat and then fatter after I had him so I never put it back in. My nipple rings I had to take out for a surgery and I was really out of it for a few days. When I tried to put em back in I couldn’t get the right one in even though it had been pierced for years, so I just left em out.
kitashla42@reddit
47 now. Still have left nostril, industrial, and lobes stretched.
Had my right nostril done a year ago, but the lady did such a poor job, I had to take it out. I'll get it redone in a couple of months.
I work in a white collar industry in c-suite and its nice to see how much perception is changing towards body modifications. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't have a tattoo somewhere and lots of people have very visible, large ones. Piercings are normalized as well.
Weirdly enough, alternative hair colors are still a hard sell though.
ophymirage@reddit
Yep. I'm 53, work in IT, and was concerned when i got my first really large forearm piece done. My boss at the time was like, look at the directors, half of them are old military and have visible ink in short sleeves. So now I have a full sleeve on my left arm, my left back shoulder, and my left ribs done, and wear tshirts to work without fear. no one cares any more..
ophymirage@reddit
Three in each earlobe (now with little permanent-ish black rings, so that they stay open, but still subtle.)
one helix left ear.
nipple, left side (for a brief period, a double-piercing, one (vertical) behind the other (horizontal), but they kept pinching & scraping, so that didn't last long.)
Tongue briefly in grad school, but then i got a job announcing for an NPR/mixed-format station, and my boss said he could hear the clicking on mic, so no more on that one.
I wanted to do a nose piercing with tiny pretty studs so badly, but i tested out with those magnetic fake ones, and it looked TERRIBLE - my nose is def not the right shape, alas.
mjh8212@reddit
I have 7 holes in my face 6 holes in my ears. My ears are stretched and I wear a small stud in the third holes. I’ve taken out most of my facial piercings leaving my nostril and septum. I had the corners of my bottom lip a labret my other nostril pierced a Medusa and my tongue pierced.
aynchint_ayleein@reddit
Ran out of places to pierce.
Historical_Touch_124@reddit
Tongue and septum still pierced... just nothing in them. Haven't closed at all.
Nashvillebitch@reddit
I got my Prince Albert in 96. I still have it. It's still a hit at parties.
NorraVavare@reddit
I had my tongue and nose peirced. My tongue ring came out on my 30th birthday because my bosses kept finding out I had one and getting weird about it. I heal way too fast and am allergic to body piercing metals, so all my piercings were gold. One day I sneezed and my nose stud flew out and under a heavy full height bookcase. By the time I got out of work to go get a new one, it had healed. After that I gave up and let my ear holes close too. I'd had them pierced since I was 12 and constantly had to re punch the holes open. You cant tell I've ever had any piercing except one ear hole that ripped and scared.
Honest_Road17@reddit
I still have the misshapen scar tissue from my 10g nipple piercing getting infected.
JavierLNinja@reddit
Never had piercings. My thing was tattoos and long hair. I'm 44 now and my hair still hangs below my waist if I let it loose.
Wife had her nipples pierced when she was in college. Took them out due to family pressure (navy brat, tough parenting) and she is kinda considering to get them back now (she's 40)
TheColorJ1791@reddit
I still have a small nose piercing. Took out the hoop in my ear cartilage after one too many hair stylists caught it with their combs (even after my warnings). I had a hard time talking on the phone or sleeping on that side with it in anyway.

Nose, ears, nipples, and PA. All in the early 90s and still rolling with it. Wife has the same (with minor modifications of course)

snerdie@reddit
I got on board with the late 90s piercing craze. I had 12 rings in my ears plus various ear cartilage piercings, a tongue piercing, navel, and nipple. I took the navel out first because I gained weight and it became uncomfortable. The tongue and earrings I took out for my brother's wedding in 2002 and never put them back in (tongue piercing lasted 5 years). The nipple was the last barbell standing, and last year after 25 years of good times, I was on a trip and had put my plastic barbell in so it wouldn't be obvious at airport security...that bugger managed to unscrew itself and fell out while I was in the shower and went down the drain. Oh well.
I think the only piercing sites left "usable" are my original earlobe piercings from 1986. I can still get earrings into them although I rarely wear them.
OsaWyld@reddit
I let my 90s tongue piercing close after a couple years because I couldn't stop biting it 😆

Turning 50 in a few weeks, and I still have my tongue piercing I got when I was about 20. No plans to get rid of it!
Dark_Web_Duck@reddit
Not me. I pulled mine when I enlisted in the USMC and haven't worn them since.
caarmygirl@reddit
I was Army…had/kept all my hidden piercings, but always removed nipple piercings when deployed.
Small chest+large areoles+body armor = PAIN (and not the good kind.
I did (a few times) have to explain that some shrapnel was already attached and to leave it the hell alone.
I’m 51 now, been medically retired for almost 20 years, and still have only one tattoo not in regs, but nakie? I’m a whole different story…😂😂

46M. Still have my eyebrow ring and tongue ring. Got them pierced in 1997 and only take them out to clean them or put new ones in. So basically got them done before they were really popular
MissKhary@reddit
I got my tongue pierced in 1996 while my friend got his eyebrow pierced. And we were hardly trendsetters, it was already popular.
MopingAppraiser@reddit
They were very popular in 1997.
cosp85classic@reddit
So popular that high schoolers were getting them if they had "cool parents".
edasto42@reddit
By 1997 they were popular in most spaces I was seeing. That was the nu metal look. Here’s an article from January of 97 in the LA Times talking how commonplace these piercings were at that time. I also think that it also comes down to where you were living at that point and the people you hung out with. Trends originate and get popular in urban centers long before they reach middle America suburbia (where by that point the originators of the trend have moved on).

Just several in my ears, which my mom hated. Had them done in high school. Thought about a cute little stud in my nose but still haven't done it. I think it's great that people can show their individuality and all but man, I wish septum piercings weren't a thing. I just find them super ugly and distracting. Not that my opinion on them should matter to anyone else, lol.
MargotFenring@reddit
I had a tongue piercing for 3 or 4 years but finally took it out because my, um, unhealthy lifestyle kept getting me mild infections. Sometimes I think about getting it again since I'm old and stopped snorting whatever people put in front of me, but at this point...eh.

I had a tongue and a belly button, but they are long gone now.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
Everyone I knew who did their bellybutton either got it pierced in a trailer park or used a safety pin they stuck in a Bic lighter. It never seemed to go well for them, they were always infected.

I got my nose pierced in 87 in my little aggie town. It didn’t go over well. I eventually had to take it out and all my other piercings because every time I had an MRI, CT, surgery they would take them out and they would close up. It wasn’t worth it after awhile.
Komaisnotsalty@reddit
Oh hell, yes. I have a septum pierce (such a ladylike look too) that I got somewhere in the mid/late '90s. I haven't worn jewelry in it for a very long time but it's still there.
I have two piercings in each lobe (I had 3, but the top holes were done kinda back alley and I ended up in the hospital surgically getting the jewelry removed. They healed over as if they were never there), and a helix in my top left.
The helix is also back alley and done crooked, so I can't put anything in it or it hurts like a mother trucker. I'd love to get a couple more, just to have them properly done, but this time, I'll go to my tattoo guy and not some dude named 'Hank' at a bar.
Ah, youth.

I got my nose pierced in 1997. I took it in & out for a job in 2001. Just left it out too long & couldn't get it back in.
I have a personal goal & piercing my nose again is the reward.
dzuunmod@reddit
Got my tongue pierced when I was about 21. At 33, I needed emergency stomach surgery, and the medical techs removed the piercing without asking (not that I was in any condition to tell them otherwise, no blame from me to be clear), and when I came to the next day, my piercing was the least of my concerns. By the time I thought about it again, the hole had grown over.
SaltyDuchess@reddit
11 ear piercings and tongue piercing, all still in tact since the 90s

Nose and septum. Taken out for work. One day, I ran into one of my chiefs on a day off. I had decided to put my septum ring back in. His jaw dropped, lol.
OmChi123456@reddit
I still have my nose and navel piercings. I removed the nipple piercing several years ago after I snagged it and was sick of it getting in the way. I removed the tongue piercing nearly 20 years ago after I accidentally bit it and it broke a tooth.

I still have my Septum piercing from the late 90's as well as a PA. I lost the rest due to multiple surgical procedures to put it simply. I have an appointment with a local shop to redo my nostril piercing. I miss them.
feder_online@reddit
I never had any, and still don't. I had enough holes in my face & nipples when I was born, so stabbing metal through my face or nipples (or dick or some other body part) just never appealed to me. I still SMH at the f-ing cow-ring in the nose...who TF thought that was a good idea...

I removed my belly ring shortly after my 55th birthday. Was not cute anymore
Administrative-Bed75@reddit
I didn't keep any of them (I had nine at one point; now it's just ears). I guess they all became tiresome after a while. But I started getting a lot of tattoos after 40 and am not stopping soon! And now my teenager has eyebrow and nose and dresses a lot like I did back then.

Nipples and labret. Didn't get them until I was like 33. Plus, 2 earrings each ear.

I had a side nose piercing in the mid nineties but had to take it out because I had a conventional job and it was not in dress code. It closed up and I didn't have the money to get another one.
Now I think they are overdone, along with the tattoos. I'm glad I stuck with small and tasteful because I want people to see me, not my hardware or my ink.

I tried to have a navel piercing and a helix piercing. The navel piercing ended up migrating sideways so I had to take it out. The helix piercing never fully healed. For three years, I tried all the techniques to promote healing but nothing seemed to work. So I gave up and removed it too. Both of the piercings were gone by 2005.

Had both nipples, and a frenum piercing. Got them at 24-25 years old. All were gone within 3 years. Nipples were stretched to 8 gauge frenum to 10.
ItAintMe_2023@reddit
Had a nipple pierced for a couple years. A crash on while water skiing and a tangle up with a life vest ended it. That said, I’m 100% confident I wouldn’t still have it either way.
ImmaculateSpace@reddit
I had 2 in one ear, one in the other, one in an eyebrow, and one in my lower lip back in the 90s. Got jumped by a group of guys for how I looked (heavy makeup goth boy) in my last year of HS and the surgeons removed the lip and eyebrow rings at the ER while I was unconscious. Never bothered to put them back, but I still have the ear piercings. I stretched the main two in the early 00s and have worn buffalo horn spirals and a little silver ring ever since.
My 18yo daughter grew up around pierced people and now has quite a few herself...stuff we didn't do much back in the 90s, I guess, but these days they do more often. "Angel bites", "spider bites", 3 rings of various sizes in the same nose piercing, giant stretched ear piercings, etc. Looks pretty cool, tbh! Even my 15yo son wanted his nose pierced.
Piercings for all!

I still have my belly button from the late 90s. I took it out for 5 years to have babies but it didn’t close so I was able to put a barbell back in.

First week of my freshman year in the dorms I went back to a girls room after a party who happened to do piercings.
Woke up the next morning to my buddy who crashed on my floor staring at me and saying “dude, you got your lip pierced last night?” My reaction was “I did?” Haha, walked over and had her take it out and it was a running joke whenever I saw her.
So I had a lip piercing for about 6 hours.
bike619@reddit
I got my nipples and upper frenulum (smiley) done in college. I took them out for the surgery when I donated an organ to a family member. I got the smiley redone and still have it to this day. The nipple piercings I left in college.
I enjoy the reaction I get when people see it for the first time, cause I'm not generally a grinning kind of guy. "Wait... hold up. Do you have a piercing in your mouth?!" But I have a fair amount of visible tattoos, so I don't really know why it seems to be such a shock.
MysticJellyfish@reddit
I had my lower lip pierced at 18 and kept it for almost 20 years. I still have a little dimple where it was and it annoys me. I think they look kind of silly now but at the same time I liked having mine and would still have it if I didn't think it would look weird on me at this age.
MistressPaine666@reddit
I used to have a ton, but now I just have the naughty bits - both nips & an outer labia. The others dropped by the wayside for various reasons. The three I have, I can take in & out easily myself though it’s rarely necessary, they don’t get in the way at all, & I like the way they look.

I got my eyebrow done when I was in my 20’s. The only reason I got it was because I couldn’t afford a tattoo and wanted a body mod. It lasted a year. I realized I hated it and took it out. My ears are still pieced multiple times and can afford tattoos so I get those instead

I have 10 piercings in my ears from lobes to cartilage. I also have a nose piercing. I don't plan on getting rid of any of them. I have tattoos too.
Why would I get rid of anything? They're a part of me. The jewelry stays in all the time except when I have to get an mri, CT, or xrays.

Bellybutton. I took it out when I was pregnant with my two youngest kids and put it back in after they were born. I got it done at 28 and recently took it out for good (53 now).
