always_an_eagle@reddit
If it can feed 40 S&W I’m all for it
1bentpushrod@reddit
It doesn’t. Says so right in the description.
always_an_eagle@reddit
Then I’m not going to get one 😂
1bentpushrod@reddit
I don’t know why you’d buy a 10mm to shoot 40 anyway. I buy 10mm guns to shoot 10mm.
Blue-cheese-dressing@reddit
It would be wild if they could configure the rifle to shoot .40, 10mm auto, and 10mm magnum- I know it’s more easily done in a revolver.
edventure_2025@reddit
Make it a take down and I'll sell a kidney to buy one.
Ranger18a1836@reddit
should be a powerhouse for packing where you need to protect yourself from wild animals, I had the 30/30 years ago very dependable rifle, this 10mm will be great.
juggarjew@reddit
Actually the opposite, it doesn’t gain nearly as much as .357 does from barrel length, it’s not a good rifle round at all.
CoreMillenial@reddit
It's neat, but honestly I'd rather have it in .45 ACP, as a suppressor host.
juggarjew@reddit
Interesting, it looks like 10mm auto only picks up about 150-200 FPS out of a 16 inch barrel over a 5 inch.
Seems like its a worse performing cartridge than .357 magnum.
Out of a 16 inch barrel:
Federal 158 gr. Hydra-Shok JHP .357 = 1741 FPS / 1063 ft/lbs
Federal 180 gr. Hydra-Shok JHP 10mm = 1220 FPS/ 595 ft/lbs
Cor Bon 125 gr. JHP .357 = 2119 FPS/ 1246 ft/lbs
Cor Bon 135 gr. JHP 10mm = 1701 FPS/ 867 ft/lbs
Quite frankly I just dont see the point, no one asked for this and the round has no potential compared to .357 mag, you can hot rod. 357 mag even more than this , and I know you can hot rod 10mm but it still wont be better. and .357 mag is gonna be higher velocity and shoot flatter.
-E-Cross@reddit
Just get a 41 magnum Henry and call it if you need to be that extra bit cooler I guess lol
fender_blues@reddit
10mm has a really strong cult following online; think about how often you see "10mm when?" after the release of new PCCs and handguns, despite the round only really making sense in handguns.
I'd be more interested in a 9mm lever gun, since 9mm tends to be the cheapest centerfire round on the market.
UH1Phil@reddit
Hmmm, so a 10mm suppressed mare's leg suppressed is the optimal configuration?
Miserable_Ad_2847@reddit
Think the point is subsonic and hype.
juggarjew@reddit
Subsonic makes no sense because 10mm subsonic isnt really a thing, technically you can buy it from niche vendors like HUSH but its not cheap and has minimal benefit over .38 spec.
Subsonic .357 magnum is .38 special standard pressure loads which are cheap and plentiful and can of course be shot through the lever gun.
There is no point at all in buying a 10mm level except for the "Weird" factor or maybe for a lever action gun collection.
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
10mm subsonics are cheap and plentiful, it's called heavy .40sw.
EastwoodRavine85@reddit
That's the real question for anyone who cares about this, does it also take .40S&W?
kit_carlisle@reddit
Subsonic 10mm seems so very silly.
bikumz@reddit
Ammo capacity is one thing. 2 extra rounds is 2 extra rounds, especially since a lot of guys are buying these types of lever guns for either range toys or outdoor protection. I could also see the merit of wanting to buy less calibers. If a guy is really into only semi-autos and still wants a good lever gun this is now an option. I know there’s a huge population of guys who hate on revolvers and love 10mm, maybe this will get them into a lever gun.
THUORN@reddit
Liberty Ammo Civil Defense 10mm is 60 grains. Out of a 16" barrel Ive seen it get 2944fps which would be 1155fpe. Not bad. Having said that, this would be a low penetration round. 10"-11" in clear ballistic gel.
I dont know. Maybe you could blow up varmints or something. lol
juggarjew@reddit
Now I kind of want to buy a box of the .357 and chrono it out of my Henry Big boy X, I bet it cracks 3100+ FPS. Stuff looks crazy. lol
generic-affliction@reddit
Yikes! I only considered it against the .44mag I have. Never thought the 10 would be so underwhelming compared to the .357. Cowboy gun and metric just don’t sit right with me I reckon
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
7-30 Waters would like a word
1bentpushrod@reddit
All of my hand loads gain about 250 feet per second from my 4.6” M&P to my FPC. Most 10mm loads stop gaining velocity after about an 8-10” barrel.
Out of the longer barrels, 357 definitely outperforms 10mm. Bitch loaded 10mm rounds like the Federal up there are designed specifically to work out of shorter barrels so they gain very little. In my opinion, 357 is a far better rifle round than handgun round - it loves the long barrels and really lets it perform.
CapnCurt81@reddit
I'll be more impressed when they actually produce it. Or actually produce ANY of their models.
HybridP365@reddit
They "released" the Dark series in 357 like 8 months ago. I have yet to see one in stock anywhere.
doaflip123@reddit
I got one off gunbroker in Feb for under $1500
HybridP365@reddit
Yeah, they had an initial run of a very few and haven't been seen since. I have access to several distributors through an FFL buddy and he's never been able to get any. 3 LGS I've got on the list for when they get one and nothing. I check weekly as well.
doaflip123@reddit
Ah that makes sense. Yea searching gunbroker for random listings has now become part of the daily phone scrolling routine.
CapnCurt81@reddit
That's the one I've been waiting for. I put an order for one in with my distributor back in May, my rep said they got "literally a few" for the original launch in March and nothing since. He said it's super frustrating, they could sell so many damn Marlins but they just don't seem to actually make any other than tricking out a couple here and there.
kilroy-was-here-2543@reddit
It’s probably some scheme to make them seem more unique and special then they really are
CapnCurt81@reddit
I thought that at first, withholding supply definitely increases demand. But they are hardly shipping any rifles at all. No point in creating demand if you don't eventually cash in on it lol.
kilroy-was-here-2543@reddit
True, could also be that Ruger simply doesn’t care enough about the brand
StormMedia@reddit
It does seem there’s probably just not enough money in it for it to be a priority for them
Paladinraye@reddit
Huh? It hasn’t been hard to find their recent models at all
SportsmansOSS@reddit (OP)
I know what you mean. Production has increased a slight bit more recently, but they are still few and far in between.
MArkansas-254@reddit
Pass. 10mm is just too expensive to shoot
Radiant_Ratio_1459@reddit
I’m not opposed. I wish they would expand their 10mm revolver offerings as well. Would def make a great pairing.
HuskyPurpleDinosaur@reddit
Ditto, I've always had a chub for "perfect pair" setups where you have a pistol and a PCC that can share ammo.
That said, I don't own a 10mm so that's a pass for me.
TwitchyG13@reddit
God i just want marlin back with the model 60
SportsmansOSS@reddit (OP)
I feel like Ruger would be working against themselves with that vs the 10/22.
TwitchyG13@reddit
If you hit a different price point and different enough feature set-you wouldnt eat the 10/22 sales
TwitchyG13@reddit
Eh tube fed vs mag fed. To me its a wholly different animal than a 10/22. Very much more retro vibes/ nostalgia hit. The model 60 was perhaps the most popular .22 repeater personally idk why they wouldnt want to have the top two models in their control. The one i could see never coming back would be the 795.
HuskyPurpleDinosaur@reddit
I've always had a chub for "perfect pair" setups where you have a pistol and a PCC that can share ammo (and ideally even magazines).
That said, I don't own a 10mm so that's a pass for me.
Hoodfu@reddit
I'd love one in 9mm. I was a big 10mm fan but after quitting reloading, factory ammo makes it too expensive.
BattleHall@reddit
9mm Lightning, though with either I wonder if there would be issues with the tubular magazine. Still, wouldn’t mind a short stroke 9mm pump gun that fed from Glock mags.
boostedb1mmer@reddit
The "long ranger" adopted a box mag for lever guns to abate the tube magazine issues. If someone would the same with a 9mm glock mag it would absolutely sell.
3006mv@reddit
Yeah the only offering for that currently is the $2000 https://www.taylorsfirearms.com/tc73-rifle-18-9mm-tuned.html
AngriestManinWestTX@reddit
$1,600 is a lot to ask for a 10mm rifle. I think $1,600 is a lot to ask for just about any rifle in this economy when there are plenty of really good rifles available for <$1,000. I just don't think the market for this rifle is going to be very large. I'll be surprised if it lasts more than a year or two.
Sure, 10mm is pretty powerful, especially from a rifle length barrel but being able to shoot 10mm (and possibly .40 S&W, I presume) from a rifle probably won't be a big enough draw for the average gun purchaser. It's too expensive and too niche IMO.
Personally, if I needed or wanted a rifle chambered in 10mm, I'd save $1,000 and get the S&W FPC.
juggarjew@reddit
No one asked for this gun, especially not at $1600.
When someone asks me what centerfire lever action gun they should buy for general purpose use, the answer is literally always .357 mag. Its the perfect balance of power, capability and affordability. Allowing cheap .38 spec and the use of a suppressor for ultra quiet fun/plinking or high pressure hot rod .357 loads for .30-30 levels of power.
For me its one and done, .357 mag for life.
Significant-Net-9855@reddit
I feel like lots of outdoorsy people have dreamed about a 10mm lever gun. To pair with a SW 610, Glock 20, GP100 etc
TacTurtle@reddit
Why? A 10mm AR is cheaper, holds more, and can share G20 or M&P or XD mags.
EastwoodRavine85@reddit
You can't hunt with stuff like that in a lot of places, hell I've got a Marlin 45-70 and I had to convert that to a single shot with some dowel rod magic.
TacTurtle@reddit
What kind of crap laws prohibit using a straightwall 40 cal?
EastwoodRavine85@reddit
I can use it, but had to plug the magazine for single-shot
juggarjew@reddit
I dont know anyone that has, makes no sense there are much better rifle cartridges that are not a huge compromise. You're leaving a lot on the table running this gun.
Roguewolfe@reddit
Why do you say that? From what I can tell, 10mm might be the most ideal PCC out there. What's the compromise?
I've had a .357 blackhawk paired with a .357 marlin. It was fine. 10mm is better.
juggarjew@reddit
Did you miss my other post here? The .357 mag can have a 60%+ energy gain over it, the 10mm performs badly in a 16 inch barrel. You’re only gaining about 200 FPS over pistol length barrels, the .357 can gain 800+ FPS.
Roguewolfe@reddit
Those are real numbers, not extrapolated? Damn.
So .357 out of a revolver wastes most of it's powder charge every time?
juggarjew@reddit
These are real actual numbers taken from Ballistics by the inch (real world testing) and Buffalo bores own real world testing :

1bentpushrod@reddit
Some of us have the FPC already and will buy this too.
Don’t underestimate the ridiculousness of 10mm fanboys. We will all be purchasing one of these. We are one of the few fandoms that puts our money where our mouths are and actually buys the stuff that comes out.
Sneezer@reddit
Ain't that the truth! Especially when it is in something off the wall like a an SAA clone or roller delayed sub gun. Way more options out there now than there have been over the last 10-20 years. I'll be watching this one closely. The new Ruglins have been pretty good quality and they seem to be gradually improving the design too. Although I do like the trapper size, I honestly prefer the longer barrel when using pistol rounds. To me it just balances and shoulders better.
1bentpushrod@reddit
Yessir. Very few people who own a 10mm only own one.
kilroy-was-here-2543@reddit
Lever actions are typically more expensive than similarly chambered carbines and bolt actions simply because of the complexity of their design
It’s still pricy compared to similarly chambered lever actions though
10gaugetantrum@reddit
Pass. But I can see why it would be alluring to some people.
Abuck59@reddit
Ruger-Marlin has become the Kel Tec of manufacturing & delivery. Announcing a gun/rifle as being ready/new and 2 years later it hits the shelves only to find out they only made 200 of them.😭😭
juggarjew@reddit
Then you see it on Gunbroker a year later for $3999 marketed "Ultra rare 10mm Marlin lever action rifle". lmao
Slatemanforlife@reddit
Can it also shoot .40 S&W?
1bentpushrod@reddit
No. It says so right in the description in the link.
BattleHall@reddit
That’d be some trick, considering they’re both rimless rounds that headspace on the case mouth. You could probably do it if you had positive extractor control like in a Mauser, but probably not reliably; if it slips the extractor you’re in trouble.
3006mv@reddit
Good Q. If I reloaded for 10 and .40 I would consider this rifle, I love my original .35mag/.38SPL
zippytwd@reddit
I've always wanted a 10 mm mini14
C_1999@reddit
They should've done a 454 Casull version instead. It amazes me that none of the popular lever action manufacturers make one in that caliber. You can use 45lc and 454 in the same gun, like 44mag/44spl, and 357mag/38spl.
Deeschuck@reddit
Rossi has had one for years.
BattleHall@reddit
IIRC, 454 Casull in its standard loading has much higher peak pressure than even full house 45-70, though with reduced overall potential performance due to the lower case capacity. Might need to go to a stronger lockup than most traditional lever actions, maybe a lever driven rotary bolt.
Leafy0@reddit
I don’t understand the draw of a 10mm rifle with the existence of 300 blackout. Unless you’re getting it in a package smaller and lighter than a sig rattler or any other sub 8” barrel ar with a folding stock sacrificing full rifle cartridge energy for ammo the costs about the same in the same size or larger gun doesn’t make any sense. A 10mm pdw makes sense.
Also tube fed lever guns that aren’t in a rimmed cartridge don’t make much sense either.
its@reddit
I personally prefer not to stock ammo that can fire in a 5.56 barrel.
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
This is probably for people that load and shoot 10mm and want a lever gun without adding another caliber to the collection
hitemlow@reddit
Where's the takedown .357 magnum from John Wick 4?
Shit should have been on store shelves when the movie premiered.
fox3091@reddit
It wasn't made by Marlin. It was a custom job by Mad Pig Customs using the takedown design from Wild West as the foundation of it.
hitemlow@reddit
Seems Marlin makes takedown versions, but treats it like a custom job instead of making batches of them for the movie release.
fox3091@reddit
I'm not aware of Ruger's Marlin offering any sort of takedown options without going through a third party gunsmith. Mad Pig Customs has a full breakdown on how the John Wick 4 guns were made in partnership with Wild West Guns.
hitemlow@reddit
IDK. I just know if I was in charge of Marlin's marketing department, I'd have had no less than 1,000 of the takedown versions ready to sell as a collaboration. If they sold well enough (and they would), make more as a factory option until sales slowed enough to just make it a custom shop package.
fox3091@reddit
I mean, they'd certainly be cool.
Jimbobborg@reddit
I will defintely be picking one of these up. It will pair up nicely with my stainless 10mm Ruger Blackhawk. Looks like it's time to sell my .357 Marlin I picked up a few years ago that I never shoot.
Larrythegunguy454@reddit
Maybe but not anytime soon. I have several 10mm handgun and love the cartridge but first on my list is a S&W M&P FPC in 10mm to go with my FPC .22lr and 9mm.
Callsign_Poopjeet@reddit
Love it, I’d be in if it was around $1,000 or so. I already have a 45-70 SBL because of all the roving T-Rex in Montana.
WombatAnnihilator@reddit
I have the 357 already. But a Glock 20/1893 combo would be sweet.
Riker557118@reddit
Pass, .357 mag offers better performance with that long of a barrel and more options for loads.
Going to continue to continue to cling to hope that S&W launch their lever guns in .460 or .500 mag.
1bentpushrod@reddit
Buying, 100%. In fact, I hate that you just made me aware of this thing because now I have to get one.
