Rewatching some old videos, she’s amazing!
shake-dog-shake@reddit
I did, but I was made fun for it...along with loving Enya, Journey, and Yanni. haha
GISReaper@reddit
She was always a mystery to me. Would always see the CDs l, but had no idea who she was or what hits made her famous.
NthatFrenchman@reddit
“If she was from the Hood, she’d be plain ol’ Sadie” - Byron Allen
Every_Fly_8983@reddit
Impossible to appreciate her enough
NorCalFrances@reddit
That "did" (past tense) really scared me!
By the way her latest song, "Young Lion" for her son shows her voice is still amazing.
dicklaurent97@reddit
Smokey Robinson created that with his song "A Quiet Storm" that came out over 10 years earlier
NorCalFrances@reddit
Thanks, now I have to dig into this! I mean the thank you sincerely, and I love digging into tidbits of info like this. I've listened to "quiet storm" radio stations since the first one in our major metro area and never heard his song. I'm not claiming you are wrong; it means I'm probably missing a "crucial" (okay, not really in the big scheme of things, but still) piece of information, and I think that's fun.
whirlydad@reddit
Is she not in your sexy time music mix? I'm still listening to Sade!
Away-Ad3792@reddit
This is how I know it's about to go down.
notashroom@reddit
Love me some Sade. Just a gorgeous voice, timing perfection, and great songs. I can happily listen to her anytime.
Keith_Creeper@reddit
Always…always.
Reeeeallly@reddit
She's the first choice on my hot tub rotation. And the neighbors don't even mind.
Outrageous-Pin-4664@reddit
Why are you using the PAST tense!!?? You scared the heck out of me, man. I had to go make sure she was still alive. 😕
I've been in love with her since I saw the video for Smooth Operator in 1984. She's so gorgeous and she has a voice like velvet. Sometimes I pull up the video for Cherry Pie and just watch it, entranced.
Xer-angst@reddit
I still do!!
jaibeyks@reddit

Unfortunately for me, I had a classmate who was a first rate asshole that wore her as this conspicuous badge of coolness. Kinda ruined it for me :-( Weird how we let things like that get in the way.

We do not, but I have to admit, I'd not listened to her in a few years and the Ted Lasso episode where Roy makes a "Roy is sorry for not understanding Keeley" playlist for Keeley and it's almost entirely Sade brought her back into my rotation.
Hypestyles@reddit
her label didn't appreciate her more. I wanted many more albums from her, and music videos and touring.
albums of instrumentals could have tided us over for a minute.
BIGepidural@reddit
As a stripper in the 90s I can confirm that many people appreciated Sade, some on the daily 😂
Very sultry voice. Great stage music.
Caribgirl2@reddit
Which of her songs was most popular for the strip club?
BIGepidural@reddit
Sweetest Taboo, No ordinary love, smoothe operator, your love is king... those are the ones that jump out most; but there were likely others.
Some girls were all about certain artists so you'd hear it more when you worked with them; but Sade, Toni Braxton, Prince and a few others were pretty fluid back in the day.
Sinnestanten@reddit
Sade can always have more love.
Instimatic@reddit
She’s incredible. Had the honour of seeing her perform, live—it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. Banger after banger and a band tighter than a nun’s knees

ggoptimus@reddit
I’m going to say no since I’m GenX and have no idea who this is.
evilinsk8s@reddit
She’s amazing, but I have Sade trauma. I had a roommate that would play Sade every time she and her boyfriend fooled around. They fooled around a LOT! Her boyfriend also installed giant speakers in her room so it was constant and loud. I haven’t been able to listen to her since.

I think 'Sade' is the name of the band - not the lady. Right? Maybe I'm full of shit, IDK.
UberKaltPizza@reddit
I did!
MattManSD@reddit

Left_Guess@reddit
Goddess.
Sweaty_Chef1342@reddit
A few years ago Steve Perry was interviewed by Katie Couric and asked who his favorite (best?) singer was
He said Sade
mnfimo@reddit
Quick shoutout to the bands bassist too, he’s one of my main inspirational players. Denman could make the most amazing grooves with the minimum required notes. So smooth and just a master of movement
Pointy_Stix@reddit
I saw her in concert in Tampa in the mid-90s. They volume so loud that I spent the entire concert with my fingers in my ears. Most of the other concert-goers were older people. None of them looked happy. I even said something to one of the staff there, but nothing came of it.
I did learn to always take ear plugs with me to any events after that.
Mouse-Direct@reddit
Adored her. “No Ordinary Love” should be in the top 3 love songs of all time.
Impossible_Turn_7627@reddit
Still gives me goosebumps!
karma_the_sequel@reddit
This one still grooves. Hard.
Impossible_Turn_7627@reddit
Not nearly enough. I had no idea what a cool weirdo she was for the longest.
A_Gray_Old_Man@reddit
I still rock that shit!
TheNolaCatLady@reddit
Honestly, I never got into Sade. I remember my dad coming home with a Sade cassette one day in the mid 80's and wondering wtf was going on with him. He was a rock-n-roll kinda guy, so I was very confused. 😅
eatsleepdive@reddit
Same thing with my dad except it was Anita Baker. Never did understand that one.
Adjmcloon@reddit
Both of your Dads have good taste
ampcooke@reddit
Sade and Anita Baker 🤌🏼 Still 2 of the greats… oh no… I’m about to fall down another 80’s music rabbit hole aren’t I!?!?
CthulhusEvilTwin@reddit
Same. My dad wore out her first album. To me she's beige in musical form - yes she has a great voice, but her music was just dull and her recent stuff hasn't changed my opinion on that.
dj_juliamarie@reddit
Still do. Sade forever
ampcooke@reddit
The groove of Sweetest Taboo is just so f-ing good!!! She’s in my favorites of all time.

Excusemytootie@reddit
I sure did, I wore those cd’s out!
BoldBoimlerIsMyHero@reddit
I wore out the tapes, then bought the cds and then bought them on iTunes back in the day.
Equal_Trash6023@reddit
Same. Still one of my favorite sings. Beats Madonna for music hands down, imo
TheTwinSet02@reddit
Same!
karma_the_sequel@reddit
Ditto. Diamond Life and Promise were two of my very first CDs back in the mid ‘80s — they got a LOT of spin time on the ole CD player.
Dollbeau@reddit
Ahem - you mean those vinyl's (actually, I only own Love Deluxe on disk)
snuggly_cobra@reddit
Nope. All of mine were discs. Discs came out in 1984 like diamond life.
Runninandgunnin556@reddit

DaniekkeOfTheRose@reddit
Did, still do, always will. In this house, Sade is a part of our life. A goddess and an inspiration.
WordleFan88@reddit
I was a metalhead back then, Sade was the exception to that. I saw her live and she was, and as far as I am concerned, still is the most elegant person I've ever seen. Just beautiful in every way. An angel on earth. I was gobsmacked then and still am. Yes, ai appreciated her appropriately.
SouthernFrosting6309@reddit
Love her❤️
Ok_Independent3609@reddit
No, I did not at the time. I thought she was ok, but as I grew older and gained life experience, I appreciated her much more.
Little_Red_Sloth@reddit
I do! We listened to her on the car ride to the hospital while I was in labor with my daughter. It really helped!
Wabi-Sabi_Umami@reddit
We never stopped appreciating Sade around here. ❤️
PlaxicoCN@reddit
I did and still do. I think Sade is the queen of being private and staying in her lane. She's not out here going live on IG, commenting on other celebs, or trying to stream on Twitch. I am a huge fan of hers, but I think it's actually good that she does that. It maintains a mystique. Maybe she did go to the Subway for a turkey sandwich on Wednesday, but I don't need to know that.
Side note, walked by her in a theater venue in NYC decades ago, but was too shook to say anything.
rafuzo2@reddit
Did we? It's not like she's dead

MuntaRuy@reddit

I definitely did. My roommate claimed that we should charge Sade rent, I played her so much. This was in the early ‘90s.
stephen94901@reddit
I was in Japan a few years ago and Smooth Operator was a commonly heard song.

If you're into music Sade is absolutely essential to your collection. As good as it gets.
Baramita528@reddit
This still is from her concert in San Diego i think. It was sublime, the band, her singing. Just remarkable. I have it on my YT playlist and its on constantly.
AgrivatorOfWisdom@reddit
We did our part, love this songbird.
Excellent-Comb-8959@reddit
NO. I do though. Still collecting her vinyl singles.
Commercial_Use_363@reddit
There was a restaurant in Albany, New York, that only played Sade. I mean, we must’ve gone there 15 or 20 times and it was the only music that ever played.
Comfortable-Tap-6774@reddit
She did "Is it a Crime" on SNL and her lipstick got on her front teeth. On anyone else this would have been humiliating. But she and her band just destroyed, live. So tight. So perfect. She left me thinking that red teeth must mean something. Dunno what. Too floored to think clearly. She's still in my playlists and always will be.

My favorite SXM channel is Yacht Rock Radio, where "Smooth Operator" is in regular rotation. Amazing song.
emax4@reddit
Musically, it was a bit repetitive, but soulful enough that it didn't get tiring.
But, if you've seen Shawshank Redemption when Rita Hayworth flips her hair, I melt at "Sweetest Taboo" when she winks at someone off-camera before getting up from sitting. It's a good thing YouTube doesn't wear out like VHS tapes.
