I will be relocating from Las Vegas to the Dallas area for work.
- Family of 3 (myself, wife and 9 year old daughter)
- Will be working downtown
- I currently drive 10 miles (20-25 minutes) to from my house to my daughter’s school and then another 20ish miles (35 minutes) to my office.
- great school
- great gymnastics programs - my daughter does competitive gymnastics
- family oriented location
- would like to have a backyard where our dog can run and open it up a little - she’s 70lbs.
But looking for recommendations on places to live that fit the bill for best family life - would be buying and the budget is $800k ish.

I think your best bet is going to be Coppell or Las Colinas. There are some new builds within 15 minutes of downtown Dallas that are pretty nice as well. I think with the competitive gymnastics part of being limited to how far you wanna be from practice.

We love living in Plano at this stage of our life. We walk our daughter to school everyday, tons of trails and parks and there are so many kid/family resources available. Your budget will get you a nice home, decent size yard and in great neighborhoods.
West Plano, check out zips: 75093 & 75024 on either side of the tollway. That is 20- 24 miles from downtown. On a good day, 35-40 min, right now with Friday traffic it’s about 50-55 min. As someone else mentioned, WOGA Plano is 2.5-3 miles away. They have a Frisco location 4.5-6 miles away. My daughter just started WOGA and loves it.
Good luck!

Ah ok so this is probably a farther commute than you want but Coppell would be a good fit. Fantastic schools, super family friendly, good fit for your budget, AND Texas Dreams Gymnastics is based there and is run by Kim Zymeskal, a former Olympian, and goes to level 10 and Elite training. Also, Plano has all the same and WOGA gymnastics which is also training up to level 10 and Elite levels. (I grew up in Coppell and trained and worked at TDG)

Yep, I know a lot of ppl who drive a long way to get their kids to/from TDG. I also know multiple families who moved to Coppell for TDG.
I live in Coppell, and the downtown commute is around 30m in, and 40m home. Not short, but not bad compared to many places. I recently met a New Jersey transplant who was super happy with the downtown commute, but that's because her commute in/out to Manhattan was 2 hours each way.
There are lots of $800k houses in Coppell.
You could live in between downtown and TDG; Communities in Irving like Hackberry or gated communities around Northgate/O'Conner (by the golf courses), or "The Lakes" off of Lakeside Dr., but then you'll probably be looking at private schools.

I see it’s fairly close to the airport, is there airplane noise from flight paths?
SupermachJM@reddit
When I lived in Coppell you saw a lot of planes but the flight paths rarely took them directly over you due to the way the approach pattern was set up having them fly over industrial zoned areas rather than the residential. So noise wasn’t really an issue. It’s a great place to live!

I don't live in Coppell, but this might be helpful: https://www.coppelltx.gov/663/Dallas-Fort-Worth-DFW-Airport

Appreciate the feedback.

I’ll have to take a look in TDG and the Coppell area.
Atomicgreenpea@reddit
I remember hearing the planes sometimes but not that it was too bothersome or deafening. I feel like it’s close but not directly under a bunch of flight paths, but maybe someone with more recent knowledge can comment.

Woga Plano is the best gymnastics. Three Olympic gold medalists and the owner, Valerie Liukin, is still there training the kids. I recommend Allen. Great schools, great houses at a reasonable price, and amazing parks - lots of trails and woodland preserve.
Roadrunnr61@reddit
FYI: WOGA has two locations - Plano is the original one. Frisco also has a competitive team.

Where is your office/work located?
Downtown DFW? Legacy West? Addison?
RevolutionDue3082@reddit (OP)
Downtown Dallas.

Then Id def go with what the other commenter recommended, Coppel

I’d also consider las colinas. It’s 5-10m closer than Coppell, but you’re literally right next to it. University hills is a dream hood of mine.
