Wear a believable pilot's costume, go the airport, and sit at a bar pounding cocktails.

They likely would not serve you. Yes I’m aware of the man show skit, but in reality this is a very sensitive subject in the industry.
I flew helicopters and we had similar uniforms to commercial pilots. Once, while I was a passenger on an airliner and heading home after 14 days on duty, I ordered a drink. The attendant refused to serve me while in uniform, even though I didn’t work for the airline and was off duty. Lots of respect to that attendant and I never did that again in uniform.

This was a skit on The Man Show, which was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carrola:

Starts at about 7:20, though go back and bit if you want to see Jimmy Kimmel do a skit in full black face.
That whole show just aged... poorly.
Blocked-Author@reddit
That didn't age poorly. Still funny. People's sense of humor aged poorly.
Cheesedoodlerrrr@reddit
The blackface, though?

He was portraying a character

Wow. 2001 was wild.

Airports were more fun pre-9/11.

I think the time is ripe to bring back the Juggies.

That’s an interesting idea from a legal perspective. While probably not strictly illegal, drinking heavily in a crowded airport lounge or bar while wearing a believable pilot’s uniform (and therefore one worn by the pilots of a major and well-known airline) could expose oneself to a great deal of civil liability.

I fly a moderate amount and i honestly can't tell you from memory what an specific airline pilot uniform looks like.
They could also wear something like a panam pilot uniform.
With this said, I probably wouldn't think too much about a pilot drinking in an airport. I'd probably assume that's the end of their shift.
Justame13@reddit
I fly quite a bit and definitely seen pilots drinking in lounges (bags give it away), but not in uniform so I just assume they are commuting home.

You gather your things and tell your family your flight is boarding. The pilot notices and glances at his watch. "Oh shit, is it that time already? See you over there, folks."
Fireproofspider@reddit
You know, I'm oblivious enough that I might just be like "right on captain, see you there!"

Could there be civil liability for wearing a particular costume? There would be no consequences if someone at an airport bar wore the uniform of a chef, a UPS driver, or a McDonald's employee. In my hypothetical question, the person is not trying to convince anyone he's a pilot. He's just wearing a pilot costume. It's only the clothing, and how others choose to interpret what they see.
qwertyqyle@reddit
If they were wearing a generic uniform, it would be fine. But if they were wearing a specific airline's uniform with logo and everything, that could be a liability.

Then get up and loudly go "Werrsgchm time to go, this 737 isn't going to (burp) fly itself" slurring your words and walk towards a busy gate.

Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Corolla did this years ago on "The Man Show". It was pretty funny.
