I still don’t see the appeal. It falls short of what Tesla claims on the metrics and the styling isn’t as good as its competitors. I’d rather get literally any one of the other EV trucks than this idk
ZobeidZuma@reddit
Ehhh. It's ugly, but have you looked at its competitors? They ain't no beauty queens either, these days. All these giant trucks have got kind of ridiculous. They're just a more familiar kind of ridiculous.
Vandersnatcher@reddit
R1T looks infinitely better.
KingKontinuum@reddit
Yeah I really like the competitors and apparently most other people do too 🤷♂️
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
It's the most efficient of all the EV pick-ups, it's cheaper than similarly equipped R1T, big bed, high payload. It's fast. It rides and handles better than the others.
Besides that, it's got all the other advantages of Tesla's software stack, charging network, etc.
Cool-Block-6451@reddit
The new Silverado EV is more efficient in kwh per 100 km, and it has a longer range towing and not towing than the CT. It has the current range record for an EV. It's a lot cheaper than the CT, and it can be used in the exact same ways as any other pickup truck. You can also charge it at Tesla stations.
It also doesn't look like juvenile shit and you won't get eggs thrown at you.
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
It definitely is not. The Cybertruck gets around 80mpge, versus 65 for the Silverado. It is 2000lbs heavier than a CT and not nearly as aero efficient.
See above. It has two very large battery packs tucked under the floor.
Also not true. A well equipped Trail Boss is pretty expensive.
Very slowly, thanks to the low voltage of the battery packs.
Is that really a concern?
LordofSpheres@reddit
The C&D 75mph tests for each show the Silverado EV getting 1.95mi/kWh and the Cybertruck getting 2.04mi/kWh. Not much of an advantage - certainly not enough to make up for the battery being smaller.
The Trail Boss Max Range has 50% more range than the Cybertruck and costs either $10k more than the AWD Cybertruck or $25k less than a Cyberbeast (dumb fucking name by the way) and if you want to match standard equipment across vehicles you have to include FSD on the Cybertruck to match SuperCruise which completely obliterates any cost savings for the Cybertruck. And you can get a Silverado EV for $58k. You can't do that with a Cybertruck.
The Silverado EV took 58 minutes to go from 10-90% for Car and Driver. The Cybertruck took 50 minutes to go from 10-50%. So... no benefit there. And, of course, you can go a lot further on 90% of the 205kWh battery of the Silverado EV than you can on the Cybertruck battery. If the only technology that mattered was battery voltage, then guess what? The Silverado EV charges at 800V in series.
Also, yeah, looking like a fascist driving a dumpster isn't something I particularly want to do with my life. Even without the connections to Dear Leader's favorite boy, it looks like shit, and I don't want to see that in the morning, y'know? Plenty of people do have aesthetic concerns for their own life.
GarfieldLeZanya-@reddit
At the original announced $39k price point, it would honestly ne a pretty compelling concept as a quirky barebones EV truck, kinda like a Slate. If it came even remotely around that area, with less Elon fuckery around it, I think it'd be a very loved car.
But when you cant actually get one for anything under $100k? Lol, lmao. Absolute zero appeal, it's just ridiculous at that price point.
Charles0nline@reddit
I think it’s more interesting than the other EV trucks. If it doesn’t appeal to that inner kid in you then yea it probably isn’t for you.
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit
I see them quite often, I can't believe people paid $80k+ for them.
I think a lot of the technology is really cool, but the alternatives you can get for that price tag that are 1000x better at actual truck things.
They are also pretty easy to hate, they are super ugly, and they stick out like a sore thumb.
TurboSalsa@reddit
I saw a lot more of them a year ago than I do now.
Could be natural attrition or owners not liking the attention they're getting.
LordofSpheres@reddit
You're just not in the right place, sadly. There are probably a dozen in my local area and I saw at least 6-7 in Zion recently.
Seems ironic to visit national parks in the ego-vehicle of a guy who is super focused on cutting government funding to programs like them, but...
bobovicus@reddit
It's just people advertising their stupidity. Fashion and trends for attention towards me above all else. People who bought this that don't have "lets throw six figures at a stainless steel dumpster" disposable income are in for a world of shit not too long from now.
DudeWhereIsMyDuduk@reddit
The only vehicle I would not help recover off-road.
JALbert@reddit
TurboSalsa@reddit
I thought this was a joke but nope, it's right there in the article.
That might be the most depressing thing I've read in awhile.
MumpsyDaisy@reddit
Poor guy how's a man supposed to go about having sex with an electric car when it doesn't have a tailpipe
IDoButtStuffOnSunday@reddit
where there’s a will, there’s a way!
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit (OP)
I think it confirms what we all suspected of the kind of people that would intentionally buy a vehicle like this
Maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships isn’t a strength of theirs
Cool-Block-6451@reddit
So..... literally Elon Musk and people like him/who wish they were like him. A man who can't even get his own kids to talk to him.
ggtsu_00@reddit
Yep, the Cybertruck has nothing to do with this train wreck of a person. The Cybertruck ownership is just another symptom of deeper issues.
GarfieldLeZanya-@reddit
hi_im_bored13@reddit
What I find interesting is that as badly as these are selling, it still outsells everything but the F150 lightning*, including the R1T
*assumes Sierra & Silverado are counted separately, otherwise that outsells the Cybertruck as well. Q3 sales
Anyways, friend has one, he still likes it, shame what has happened to the brand because I liked it then over the competition and I still like it now, It is disappointing that unique of a drive is constrained to such a pricey vehicle (& they've proved they're not going to get the price down anytime soon)
The editors note on Taylor is ironic to say the least
Tesla still does the little things better than anyone else, it's just that the biggest thing , the price, they still struggle with. & unlike the hummer, it can't be optioned as an SUV, which I think was a miss from the start
Likewise the Model X & S have languished & sales numbers this last quarter speak for themselves on those, there is nothing enticing in their flagship lineup. Whatever maybe you can somehow argue they aren't a car company and that its a tech company, the tech is starting to lag as well
bjuandy@reddit
I wonder if it's born from misconceptions about how susceptible it is to corrosion, what wrapping it can do for corrosion prevention, and the fact that wrapping is cheaper and more error tolerant than paint. Also, maybe the flat surfaces make wrapping the body much easier to do on your own?
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit (OP)
Is this friend of yours a healthy, well adjusted individual?
I’ve noticed a lot of Cybertruck owners have some…predispositions
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
I've noticed the Cybertruck seems to trigger some... predispositions in people who otherwise seem well adjusted.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Yes, for the most part. It replaced an R1T he didn't have the best experience with. Retired from tech, has fun with his farm, it's a good life.
For him, had to be electric partly due to the ease & cost of "home" charging & to power tools & whatnot. The Cybertruck ended up with a very solid blend of livability, capability, conveinence for him
I have a larger writeup on here somewhere, but the short is I do agree, the Cybertruck out of the lot is the most car-like, that is simultaneously its biggest pro and its biggest con.
I don't like the marketing that sets it up as some immensely capable handle-anything rubicon competitor, it's not that at all, in fact it's quite fragile. But the traction control is generous, the steer by wire is very easy to get on with, the infotainment & integration is still top notch
It abstracts quite a bit away from you, but IMO abstracts it well, not for everyone
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
Meanwhile, two years old Hummers still haven't sold out and with some huge price cut.
Particular-Wind-609@reddit
Pretty awesome trucks!
Educational_Fox6899@reddit
Unless of course you want to use it as a truck.
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
They seem to work pretty well in that role.
Educational_Fox6899@reddit
I’ll keep my hybrid that negates all those points.

Man, I don't know. You spend $100k on a truck and another $50k outfitting it to go off road, and once you finish the trail your thought is... "It's a miracle" and you feel the presence of God?
That sounds like an unhealthy response to a situation, but a physiatrist I ain't.
trail-g62Bim@reddit
You don't need to be. He has grok for that.
TheNonExample@reddit
It’s like driving an Affliction shirt. Serves a purpose (covers the gut) but the branding has baggage.

Makes me feel like batman or halo
RevvCats@reddit
What a shame… what a rotten way to die
fordprefect294@reddit
Also lots of recalls
Bderken@reddit
Not the ford owner talking about recalls…
fordprefect294@reddit
Luckily comments dont actually matter.
Also, my recalls have been minor software patches, not body panels falling off, or accelerator pedal getting stuck, or the car bricking itself
Bderken@reddit
You are right, they don’t matter

Lots of hate on here I see, lol. Personally I prefer gas but nothing against them, we are fortunate enough to have that choice.
Lava_Lamp_Shlong@reddit
I've seen one irl on side view and I thought why is there a grabage container in this parking lot until I saw someone was sitting in it, that's when I realized it was a cybertruck
