New social policy: if you watch videos or take calls on speakerphone in public, your devices are confiscated and destroyed.

I can 100% get behind that.

make rudeness illegal, what could possibly go wrong?  this surely won't be weaponized against the poor or people of color.  /s

i mean, yes and no. historically any time some rule is too vague, those in power exploit it to encompass people they don’t like.

nah, it's a fairly real-world, practical concern for these types of things, you're just a short-sighted moron

So somebody has a $1500 brand new iPhone, I absolute money look at a video on YouTube, without their headphones, and their phone is taken and destroyed, I’m sure that won’t result in litigation of any kind… Or any physical resistance right then and there, lol!

Making noise above a certain decibel reading for a certain period of time should result in atomisation.

I propose the reverse. Everyone who complains about the use of speakerphone in public gets imprisoned. For prejudice against people with age-related hearing loss. There is NO such thing as a quiet public place. Doors, footsteps, loud chatting, squeaks, clunks, bangs, over-loud music. Holding the phone to my ear results in my ear opening at least two unwanted apps, usually terminating the call prematurely as well. Even 30 years ago, you could see people running from a public place in order to find somewhere quiet enough for the phone call. "Excuse me I have to take a call". And even then with their hand over their other ear straining to make out the sound coming from the phone in the quietest place they could find. Taking a call on a speakerphone in public is not rude. The rude people are those who complain about it. The phone call only lasts 25 seconds. The rudeness of people whining about it lasts forever.

Funny, guy I work with daily and has hearing aids that Bluetooth to his phone. Same with my uncle that can’t hear shit but takes calls without being a speakerphone douche. Your hearing loss isn’t everyone else’s problem. If I have a hard time seeing in the dark should we require the lights be left on in a movie theater?

This is a dumb take. You don’t want people cutting you off in traffic, right? There’s rules for that, right? You get angry when it happens, right? “tHeIr aRE nO PuBLiC RuLEs” Lmfao

you know that attacking the person and not the argument is a tacit admission that you've lost, right? actually you probably don't. so, just fyi.

No ... *you* are destroyed: if you're the kind of person who does that, you have no consideration of others and that won't be restricted to just those circumstances or in that manner - so, it's just best all around, if we solve the problem in its entirety in one fell swoop.

How about a compromise. Both phones and litter are to be forcibly jammed up the rectums of the perpetrator, said rectums then being superglued shut. I think that would satisfy all of us?

Hey man. Just wondering how often you’re an asshole online, get called out for being wrong, block the person and run away? Seems pretty fucking weak to me, idk.

How is a person talking on speakerphone functionally different from two people having a conversation in-person in front of you
View on Reddit #69024237

Thrashbear@reddit

Volume. Two people on a bus or cafe speak to each other at a certain level. Open phone conversations are 3x louder, and the shrill tone of the phone speaker can grate on people's nerves.
