I was in "The Other Valley" in L.A. I knew it was a big quake watching shit fall over at Candlestick, but never expected to feel it all the way down there. Surreal moment.
Then all the aftermath stuff, like the video footage of the tunnel collapse and the upper deck of the Bay Bridge, etc. I was a little too young for the Sylmar quake and though I loved quite close to the epicenter of the Whittier Narrows quake, there wasn't a lot of damage to our house.
I was walking to school when that one hit, stumbling as the visible waves in the sidewalk hit my feet, little trees planted in the right-of-way whipping back and forth so hard their tops were touching the ground.
I found an old VHS at mom's 2-3 yrs ago and popped it in. It was an HBO recording of Popeye. But after the movie, it had been taped over my mom's soap opera (One Life to Live) and 21 Jumpstreet. What really stood out were the commercial breaks. There weren't as many, and they only showed 2-3 quick ones. They also weren't loud.
I wish we could escape commercial breaks. Now we have to pay extra extra to skip them. If we went back to 80s style quick and infrequent breaks, they wouldn't bother me. But these 3 minute long ads about plaque psioriasis meds and whatnot, I just am so sick of them.
I was 7 years old at the time and remember being always flopped in front of a tv. I had long forgotten those McNugget characters that I loved so much. I got those pails from McDonald’s and that TMNT cereal. TMNT must’ve left the biggest impression on me because I remember that the most from this clip. Ah memories.

Where a kid can be a kid….i always thought Chuck E Cheese had that slogan.
I wonder if Showbiz pizza was owned or bought out by them.
TrustInRoy@reddit
My local Showbiz was bought by Chuck E Cheese.
Sufficient-Quote-431@reddit
Thanks. Then the odds they bought all of them is highly probable

If I'm remembering this video correctly, it was a bit convoluted.

Three days before the 7.1 magnitude San Francisco earthquake..
Hilsam_Adent@reddit
Growing up in L.A., I was no stranger to quakes. What was weird was watching it happen live on T.V., then feeling it several minutes later.
dakapril77@reddit
I was about 20 miles east of the epicenter watching a Brady Bunch rerun after school,, then the rockin’ started,, remember it like it was yesterday,,

Unlocked memory of that McDonald’s Halloween commercial (“At least I got my hair done!”)

Those nuggets are lodged deep in my subconscious.

My McDonald’s Halloween bucket (pumpkin one) comes out every year to give candy to the kids and shock any parents that recognize it.

That was great

The TMNT cereal came with a Ninja Turtle bowl shrink wrapped to the box at one point.

I loved those nugget puppets. When I showed my kids Ronald McDonald, they did not believe me that he rep’d McDonald’s and kids liked him lmao.

I instinctively knew the Showbiz jingle as soon as that commercial started. Wild how our memories work.
