I had a friend that bought one along with a handful of games just as they were being reduced to clear. For the most part I remember it being a laughable curiosity, but I’m glad I got to play one. He even let me borrow it “indefinitely” at some point because nobody really had any fun with any of the games.
On the other hand, my brother did pretty much exactly the same thing with the VirtualBoy, grabbing it for a steal-price along with all of the games that had been released. It was migraine-inducing and weird, but at least it was novel.
I remember thinking these were so badass just from the game magazines and commercials. When they were discontinued, I picked one up along with a few games from KB Toys on extreme clearance. I then understood why it was discontinued
The looked great as a teen but definitely does not seem worth it. I have thought about getting one of those systems as well but avoided the urge. Did you keep them or sell them?
SNES and Sega are timeless for a reason. Great games and controllers.
I don't think 3DO was bad at all as far as a console goes. The game catalog wasn't great but better than true busts. At least it had some good versions of multi-platform games. And I thought the daisy chaining controllers for mutli-player was one of the best features I'd ever seen in controllers at that point.
Problem was it cost more than the Neo Geo AES and never had the allure of Neo Geo because of exclusive titles in arcade perfect ports.
I think if it tried the same thing but with DVDs instead of VCDs as the base and released in 1997 or 1998, it would have had a chance.
I am seeing/hearing about this console for the very first time today. Not sure how that’s possible lol. I’ve never been a hardcore gamer but I played my share of NES, Game Boy, SNES, Genesis, and a little N64.
My uncle had one. I remember thinking the snowboarding game was really cool at the time, but that was well before SSX. That’s all I remember about it though.
I remember seeing pictures of the games in EGM and was like, "It doesn't look better than my Super Nintendo."
A couple weeks after 9/11 I got the 'unobtainable' Sega CD, and that ended up being pretty cool, though sadly there were not a lot of games worth playing.
It's interesting that at the time I remember being aware the Jaguar existed but never really wanted one. At the time it came out all the focus was on SNES and Genesis so that was probably a big reason why. I don't think Jaguar even had a demo console at any of the stores I got video games from (on the other hand I remember playing the SNES demo console a lot).
I owned every console from Atari 2600 to PS3, the CDI is the only console I played less than the Jaguar. Jaguar was bad, and not like Lucas talking about the Power Glove in The Wizard "bad".

God, I wanted one so bad for Aliens vs Predator.
Yikes0nBikez@reddit
I had one. It was pretty lame. The Aliens game was kinda good, but overall it was a let down.

Lol duel 32bit processors

my friend bought one of these. it was ASS!
he had a horrible fighting game and I think an Aliens game that was just ok. also, the controller sucked!
luxtabula@reddit
that controller had no idea what it was doing.

We got my uncle’s Atari. I guess there were later versions because ours didn’t look this cool.
ElectricalCheetah625@reddit
This Jaguar is definitely not what people mean when they say an "Atari".
StickyThumbs79@reddit
It should stay unused

Better as art than as a console.

These went for 500 at the time didnt they? Adverting 64 bit graphics?

At some point about 6 years ago, I got the 'bad' systems to try them out. 3do, jaguar, and cdi. They were indeed, really bad.
Jaguars controller hurt my hands

We had a CDi in our classroom in 1995. I thought it was pretty neat, but that didn't last long. 😂

No clue how this is new to me!

My neighbor had one, it was also unused. Genesis was more fun.
SteveEcks@reddit
Man those controllers sucked for a 7 year old
BrattyTwilis@reddit
You didn't miss out on much. Only a couple of games worth playing
bgzkinsella@reddit
Aliens Vs Predator was a legit horror survival game. Moving around, hearing an invisible predator whisper "anytime" was terrifying.
kurt667@reddit
Yup… that was probably the only good game for this system…

I played a Jaguar at a toy store in like 1994. I was blown away by Cybermorph. We couldn't afford it so I stuck with my Sega Genesis.
I got one some years ago but now it just sits on the shelf. Neat but glad I opted to get an N64 eventually instead of a Jag.

I had a classmate who had one. He insisted that it was better than n64 or PlayStation, but I have my doubts.
