This is sickening & MAGA knows this will cause utter chaos. It’s all part of their plan to create mayhem and they will cast blame on democrats. Starvation of a civilian population is a war crime, a crime against humanity, and/or an act of genocide. This is MAGA’s America.
Responsible-Sundae25@reddit
Do you choose to be this clueless or is it genetic? How many clean CR bill attempts at this point? How many has been voted on by the DNC in the past? Do you believe in holding the country hostage to pass legislation? The amount of uneducated people on Reddit who claim to have an understanding is astounding.
Individual-Engine401@reddit
Open your eyes. Your MAGA are the people who continue to hold the country hostage, literally some American citizens abducted right off the street & put into ‘camps’, claiming they are illegals. Americans are in danger if they are not worshipper of Trump or bow down to MAGA Heritage rhetoric. Your fascist party is destroying our democracy. FDT
Responsible-Sundae25@reddit
I can look at both parties and believe they are screwing us over the same. Clearly you are a blue no matter who, which is why no changes happen. If the GOP was adamant on additional cuts or adds to this bill, I would be in their ass.
That’s not happening, it’s a clean CR that DNC doesn’t want to vote on. That’s the reality, that’s the facts. I’m fortunate enough to not need these benefits. Enjoy the consequences for your voting action.
Individual-Engine401@reddit
I care about my fellow Americans & the greater good, i don’t receive any assistance from the gov’t, thank heavens. Destroying our Healthcare, selling off land to the highest bidder & opening up countless acres of land that should never be touched to drill oil & mine minerals, turning our military on its citizens, trying to add seats to change elections, the unethical autocratic list is endless. Keep telling yourself whatever helps u sleep at night. This is why I marched in protest today 🚫👑
Responsible-Sundae25@reddit
You care so much about your fellow Americans that you support a party that is holding those critical benefits hostage for additional 1.5 trillion dollars in spending. The DNC could vote on a clean CR bill; restore benefits and work out a deal.
Happy you went out, marched and protested, it’s a right we enjoy.
Individual-Engine401@reddit
I’m against an authoritarian grifting administration. The reality is MAGA has become unAmerican, how anyone can support the GOP now is unfathomable.
Responsible-Sundae25@reddit
You are clearly of low intelligence, reading comprehension or English language is an issue for you. Good luck out there. Please continue to be a speaker, we need more of you to billboard the cause.

Unless they didn't vote for this shitstain, I'd tell them to kick rocks.
Maybe some food for kids if they have any, but the parents can go fuck themselves if they voted for Trump, they deserve everything they're getting. Only the children deserve any sympathy and help.
LakeSun@reddit
Well, MAGA never believed Trump would screw them over.
History shows Republicans do this every time they can, but, MAGA doesn't believe in history.
Jwast@reddit
I live in one of the reddest areas in the country, rural WV, the food pantry in my town is only open twice a week for 4 hours at a time since it's such a small town. I drove by two weeks ago and the line was three blocks long.... Our entire towns population is under 5k people and I would bet anything, over 90% of them will vote straight R ticket in 2028.
carlitospig@reddit
A smart person would pretend to stand in line with them to hear what they’re saying. Maybe…use and redirect that energy… 😉
Broken_Atoms@reddit
I’ve been doing that. As soon as they are confronted with the facts, they shut down and ignore because they have integrated lies into their belief system and that is very hard to change. I firmly believe that’s why the republicans preach the whole Christian nationalism thing, because that makes it easier to branch off of people’s religious beliefs. The people that infected them with those untruths… global warming is fake, brown people took your job instead of rich people who really took your job, etc. have been extraordinarily persuasive. It takes a lot of energy and patience to work through the logic and help them reach more truthful conclusions. We have to keep trying though, while there is still something left.
Yukidaore@reddit
The first American institution the billionaires corrupted is the church, through the prosperity gospel. They made being wealthy a sign of virtue for the religious, rather than the cruelty and exploitation it actually is. It goes to show how few of the religious have ever actually read the bible, since Jesus could not have been much more explicitly against the accumulation of wealth.
erbush1988@reddit

How many attempts has GOP attempted to pass a clean CR Bill? How many times in the past has the DNC voted on the same CR? Do you always paint clown makeup on in the mornings?
Oscar_Whispers@reddit
Found the guy responsible for this.
Annihilator4413@reddit
Fuck off
Anything 'good' the GOP tries to pass is only because they have a bunch of bad shit baked in that harms the 99% and greatly benefits the 1%

blimkim@reddit
They will not. I've been reading the food stamp forum. The maga propaganda seems to be "The dems are refusing to end the govt shutdown because they want to give healthcare to illegals". Which is not true but they believe anything their masters say without question.

What’s interesting is a lot of small town and locally owned grocery stores really depend on food stamp recipients shopping in the early parts of the month. I worked at a lot of grocery stores from the time I was 16 until I got a bachelors degree at 27 and became a teacher. And in that time the most profitable days at ANY grocery store, even the larger ones, were the food stamp days on the 1st, 5th and 10th. Like double or more the usual amount of money these stores brought in. And the stores really depend on those huge infusions of money every month to get through the slower days towards the end of the month. So without that money I would not be shocked to see grocery stores start laying people off. It’ll be a while before that effect starts to appear I think, most of them are probably going to try and hold out until the shutdown hopefully ends. But if this goes on past Christmas don’t be shocked if a lot of small grocery stores start to close down or greatly reduce their operating staff and hours. The food deserts that are going to result from this are going to be shocking. Rural areas especially are really going to hurt. Where I grew up in Oklahoma, the nearest Walmart (which I expect will be one of the stores that aren’t hurt as bad and will survive) was 45 minutes away. What will poor people with no car or gas money do when they need to get groceries and they have no store nearby? It’s terrifying to think of. Even when food stamps are hopefully eventually restored in this worst case scenario, those stores aren’t going to just magically reopen. The potential effects of this are going to be staggering.
blimkim@reddit
I was reading the comments on the food stamps sub and one of the social workers mentioned that her office had "already reached out to local law enforcement" regarding this so they could be stationed at the office. Another noted they already get knives pulled on them just in the normal line of work so is concerned about how this will escalate.
Hopefully walmart et al consider asking their local enforcement for a bit of backup as well.
Unique-Sock3366@reddit
That sub is incredibly informative. And, often, very sad.
A post a few days ago by some workers indicated that applications are way up. Many people who are far above the qualifying income level are applying and are stunned to learn that they don’t qualify.
Everyday people, families, and communities are hurting so badly financially and things are almost certainly going to get very bad indeed, rather than better.

I don’t have any idea how the SNAP benefits work. I would assume they are allocated at the beginning of each month? If that is the case, we can hope that people have already used their benefits for October and the shutdown will be over before November starts.
People always ask if you would share your preps during a disaster. This may not be a disaster for me, or many of us here, but it sure as heck is a disaster for many people. In this case, my 6+ month of food for 6 people could feed quite a few people for a bit. And I’m ready to do that if it comes to that in Missouri and I know of people in need in my area.
dallasalice88@reddit
You are an awesome human. I'm a public school teacher and I, as well as some of my coworkers are prepared to help our low income students and their families if this happens. Our school lunch program is already suffering. We have decided to just bulk buy food as a collective group and feed our vulnerable kids the good old Black Panther way.
I will not tolerate a child going hungry because of this bullshit.
Equivalent-Buyer-841@reddit
Where I live these kids got cut off from their school lunches because they ran up a debt on them. Local guy offered to pay off all this debt. School board refused. Said they needed to teach kids lessons about self reliance and meeting their obligations. Then they fired the lunch lady who slipped the kid an apple - which was going to be thrown away and charged her with theft. These are the people running this folks. Get ready for a bumpy ride!!
Pea-and-Pen@reddit
Yeah I’m having issues with people acting like this is a good thing to teach people a lesson. Not when kids are involved. That’s totally unacceptable.
danjouswoodenhand@reddit

Seaweed-Basic@reddit

Pea-and-Pen@reddit
Definitely have a good point there!
snail_bites@reddit
Looks like they are not processing applications. People currently enrolled will still get their $, but it's not just new people that will be rejected because you have to re-enroll in SNAP periodically. I think the frequency depends on where you live and where you fall within the income limit. Even if all of your info stays the same, no new income, same situation as the last application, you have to reapply and go through an interview to get it. It's genuinely insane how stringent the application/enrollment is for 200 bucks a month that is limited to cold food items.
Awkward_Ostrich_4275@reddit

Alvintergeise@reddit
Will the government is supposed to be, you know, us. Otherizing the government is partly how we got here. It separates the people from the very power they need/have to make changes that are positive for them and instead makes people see that system as something that exploits them or can be exploited. There is no "the government", there's just the people.
CityCareless@reddit
Sometimes more easily said than done….

Thats… fair. But we all need to take more responsibility for our own problems, mainly decision making.

wanderingpeddlar@reddit
And what about the ones that didn't vote for TACO? They are going to suffer the same and the ones that did.
dallasalice88@reddit
Yeah, last I heard kids can't vote. But they will go hungry anyway, no matter who their parents voted for. And that's not right. If someone is wishing hunger on children just because of parental politics, then we become no better than the MAGA ass clowns.
wanderingpeddlar@reddit

When the party that controls all three branches of government decided that billionaires needed tax breaks and government subsidies more than those living near or below the poverty line.
It blows my mind that in a country as rich as the US, just the unpaid taxes of the ultra wealthy could be used to completely eliminate poverty in America, but instead they gut the IRS to prevent any enforcement or collection of the taxes owed

You are misinformed. Eligibility workers do not approve benefits for people that congressional laws (as passed by both major parties since the 90’s) exclude from receiving benefits. Illegal immigrants do not get approved for federally funded benefits.
I have worked as an eligibility worker. Families that have immigrants in their household have the immigrant’s income counted against their household, and anyone with lapsed, ineligible, or no status does not get included in any grant allowances. We regularly denied anyone that congressional passed rules + immigration documents showed as not eligible.

Judiciary Still Operating as Shutdown Starts Published on October 1, 2025 Updated: Oct. 1, 2025 at 12:35 p.m.
Despite a federal government shutdown that began on Oct. 1, the Judiciary remains open and will continue paid operations through Friday, Oct. 17, by using court fee balances and other funds not dependent on a new appropriation.
Most proceedings and deadlines will occur as scheduled. In cases where an attorney from an executive branch agency is not working because of the shutdown, hearing and filing dates may be rescheduled.
The Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system also will remain in operation for electronic filing of documents.
The Judiciary initially confirmed that it could continue paid operations through Oct. 3, adding that it was assessing whether there were sufficient funds to support operations beyond that date. The assessment identified available fees and balances to pay for an additional two weeks.
If the shutdown continues after Judiciary funds are exhausted, the courts will then operate under the terms of the Anti-Deficiency Act, which allows work to continue during a lapse in appropriations if it is necessary to support the exercise of Article III judicial powers. Under this scenario, each court and federal defender’s office would determine the staffing resources necessary to support such work.
bobnuggerman@reddit
During the longest shutdown of 34 days, courts still operated just under essential staffing. I'd assume the district and appeals courts ruling on the national guard stuff will still be running, and cases like those will be essential
