Americans which virtual mailbox companies are best?
Posted by sirhalos@reddit | expats | View on Reddit | 78 comments
I am moving to Korea at the end of the month and will need to get a virtual mailbox. The main thing I need to get in the mail is just new credit cards and if some reason I get audited by the Fed or something odd like that. I have been looking at virtual mailbox services. Which virtual mailbox services are good and which ones to avoid. I'm hoping for something I can just pick and choose which ones for them to trash, which ones to open and I pay for a scanned version of what is inside, and which ones to forward to Korea for a fee. Bonus points if I get a physical address and it is in a state with no income tax just to be extra safe since I will be gaining earnings from dividends.

I’ve been using texas home base for 9 years. They scan all my mail and email it. They’ve been everything I’d hoped. I have had them post me credit cards every few years.
macrossdyrl@reddit
Like the customer service with Eileen but it's not a residential address, it is a commercial address so banks and snailmail loving institutions will probably flag and not like it. Have you had success or challenges using their service with banks and other we only do snailmail institutions? Please share. Thanks!
lunarbanana@reddit
I have a chase sapphire, Charles Schwab (not international), vanguard and fidelity using this address. I did get notices from one of them (don’t remember which) that the address was no good for the first year or so but I ignored them.
I don’t know if you’d have more trouble these days. The credit card I’ve recently changed to my actual overseas address.
macrossdyrl@reddit
You successfully changed your JPM cards to an overseas address? When you did online the the system indicate anything? Kindly keep us updated. Thank you and good luck!
lunarbanana@reddit
Yes, I went online and changed my sapphire home address to my residential address in Switzerland. It gave no issue at the time and a few months later I downgraded that card and they mailed the new card directly.
Which_Proposal5890@reddit
I have been using ipostal1 for past year and a half and it’s really glitchy. Some things won’t ship or I will schedule to scan something and it gets thrown away. The postal center I use is great but ipostal1 system is awful. I have to call almost every week for postal center to scan something because ipostal1 system doesn’t let the postal center know to scan it. The mail center hates me now because I call or email every week. I would try another company because ipostal1 isn’t it. I am going back to USA in spring and I will hopefully be switched to a different company by then.
macrossdyrl@reddit
Did you switch to another company if so which one? Thanks. Did you find one that is a residential address so your banks dont have a cow? Thanks.
Crnajim@reddit
I talked with my mail center and discussed the problems with ipostal one, which they totally understood. I decided to stay with them because I like the mail center. I still have same issues with ipostal one. I use my old address of a house I sold two years ago as my residential but not mailing address with my brokers and banks. I have got away with it so far but I am concerned about this.
macrossdyrl@reddit
Please keep us updated on any developments and good luck!
macrossdyrl@reddit
We opted to test TravelingMailbox services due to pricing and hopefully ease of use. There's a free two month promo also if you sign up for the basic plan it was $199.00 bc we selected a specific city and state otherwise it is cheaper. Here's the phone if you want to call and ask questions 855-749-1736. Good luck.
AlexTheNomadDev@reddit
If you’re comparing providers for expat use, I’d focus less on the headline monthly price and more on the things that get expensive or frustrating later: international forwarding rates, scan fees, package handling, proof-of-address situations, and how reliable the dashboard/workflow is when something time-sensitive shows up.
For long-term expat use, the biggest difference usually isn’t whether mail can be received at all. It’s whether the service still feels dependable once you need forwarding overseas or something important handled quickly.
macrossdyrl@reddit
And your recommendations are which companies?
AlexTheNomadDev@reddit
I’d look at PostalBridge, Anytime Mailbox, Traveling Mailbox, and Earth Class Mail. For expat use, I’d compare international forwarding rates, scan fees, package handling, and processing speed. PostalBridge has been a good fit for me, but it depends on whether you mostly need scans, forwarding, or package handling.
macrossdyrl@reddit
Just need scans, shredding. Will not need mail and packages forwarded. Also need a service that can accept bank and government tax documents. Got any recommendations? Thank you.
AlexTheNomadDev@reddit
For scans + shredding only, I’d mainly compare scan turnaround time, whether shredding is included or extra, and whether the address is accepted by your bank/tax agencies.
PostalBridge would be worth checking for that use case since you can receive mail, request scans, and shred what you don’t need. I’d still confirm the exact address format with your bank/government accounts before relying on any virtual mailbox, because some institutions can be picky.
macrossdyrl@reddit
Called PostalBridge and they are not cheap. Examined their prices and it isn't great, almost everything is an add-on which really adds up in costs. Do you have any other recommendations? Are you using any virtual mail services currently that can offer a residential address that is acceptable to annoyingly fickle banks and other snailmail loving institutions? Thanks.
AlexTheNomadDev@reddit
The way I’d look at it is base price vs. usage. PostalBridge starts at $7.99/mo, which is on the low end compared with most virtual mailbox providers I’ve seen. Some services bundle more into higher monthly plans, while others keep the monthly price lower and charge separately for more labor-heavy stuff like extra scans, shredding, handling, or forwarding.
So it really depends on volume. If you only get occasional bank/tax mail and mostly need scans + shredding, the lower base plan can make sense. If you expect a lot of mail every month and want everything bundled, then a higher-priced plan elsewhere may feel simpler.
On the bank/residential-address issue, I’d still be careful: no virtual mailbox can guarantee every bank or agency will accept the address as a residential address. It’s best to confirm with the exact institution before relying on any provider.
macrossdyrl@reddit
Yes mainly want this for the pointless snailmail loving institutions who refuse to send digital copies via email or even host on their secure site. If not for this need wouldn't even bother with considering a virtual mail service.
After re-examining PostalBridge, have you used their services since you seem familiar with them? Is there service considered a residential or a commercial address? If we complete USPS 1583 isn't it a commercial address? Also, don't know the difference between Basic and Standard plans. The website cuts off the chart (and can't download it), so hard to compare the two services. Thoughts? Thanks.
AlexTheNomadDev@reddit
My experience with PostalBridge has been good overall, and they seem pretty receptive to feedback. If you’re seeing website/chart issues, I’d open a ticket or email them. I mostly use a laptop and haven’t had trouble scrolling through the plans.
On the address side, USPS 1583 authorizes them to receive mail for you, but it doesn’t guarantee every bank/government agency will treat it as residential. You can set up 1583 for personal use, and for commercial/business use if needed. Some plans also support additional recipients. They’re newer, but seem pretty tech/customer-friendly from what I’ve seen
macrossdyrl@reddit
Yes some institutions are difficult and don't accept a commercial address which is what almost all (based in our research ) shows are for the virtual mailboxes. The banks reject it so if you got success stories please do share! Thanks

What matters most to you — getting the lowest forwarding cost(domestic and international), a real USPS‑recognized street address, or fast scanning/uploading? Different providers shine in different areas, so narrowing down your priorities can help you decide.

If you want a real residential address that BANKS and snailmail loving institutions recognize , which service, who do you recommend?
texas_asic@reddit
I can't say which is the best, but I've been using traveling mailbox for the last few years with a Texas address and it's been fine: https://travelingmailbox.com/pricing
MaleficentHyena7676@reddit
I have used Travelingmailbox for 6 years and I will say DO NOT USE this company. I am on here searching for a new virtual mailbox company to use. In have packages shipped internationally and over the last few months it has been HELL. They have not informed their customers of new procedures such as only being able to ship one package at a time internationally instead of combining them as you could, they even confirmed this when I asked.
"I do apologize again for any inconvenience. This was a change made recently and we did not send out a email to customers, just added in the notification within your account.Kind Regards,Jenn"
If I would have been notified it would have been different, but if a company doesnt tell you and then do not even attempt to assist with making up for their customers service problems (IMO). I prefer to spend my hard earned money with a customer friendly company. 5-10$ per package at 100 packages a 5-8 packages a month adds up.
"I do apologize, we are not able to make an exception to this new policy. That being said, we did some testing on recently sent shipments to verify the pricing of sending the items combined and separately. While some did have a varied final cost for shipping that was more separately then combined, the bulk of the test shipments only varied by 5-10 dollars overall with some being more combined then if sent separately.Kind Regards,Jenn"
Gan-Ni-Nia@reddit
yes agreeed! used them for several years and was fine until it wasn't... talk about a train wreck... they're horrible and just not equipped to handle issues.
Horrible experience with them!! DO NOT USE them!
MaleficentHyena7676@reddit
But who do you use now, I tried US Global Mail and their shipping prices were expensive and customer service even worse!!!
macrossdyrl@reddit
It's because they are greedy and moving to AI support which is horrible and they want to focus on business clients, not the average consumer.
SirPhatSax@reddit
Wow! ChatGPT recommended TravelingMailbox and I'm glad I looked here before signing up. I need good rates on package forwarding
seekingwisdom8@reddit
We’re using them as well and are quite happy with them.
snazzysid1@reddit
I'm using global mail us (address is 1321 Upland drive. Houston, TX). Ive only been using a month but so far so good.
Just a heads up to get anything delivered or Forwarded costs a lot (even domestically). They give you some amount of scans for free every month but i am as paperless as i can so haven't used that yet. Mostly it's just stuff i know can be shredded. They email you for every new mail piece and you have a dashboard so you can instruct them on what to do.
OpenMinded8899@reddit
Can you setup it up if you are already outside of the US?
macrossdyrl@reddit
Many virtual mail service require the USPS for 1580 which needs to be notarized, but, this can be done with a remote notary if needed. So technically, yes you can set up your virtual mailbox remotely after you've traveled. We're trying to avoid this just in case.
dmada88@reddit
It’s us global mail https://www.usglobalmail.com/. I’ve used them for at least a decade. When you compare services, check forwarding rates. Usglobal is actually cheaper than most.
MaleficentHyena7676@reddit
I tried them for a month and their forwarding prices were outrageous compared to Traveling Mailbox. Almost twice as much
macrossdyrl@reddit
They had reasonable prices until 2024 but their greedily tripled the prices and eliminated the basic affordable plans at $9.95-$19.95.
elevenblade@reddit
I’ve been using US Global Mail (not to be confused with the US Postal Service — these are two completely different things) for the last seven years and I am happy with their service.
abzz123@reddit
Second us global mail. They seemed more expensive compared to alternatives, but I had no issues since I moved about a year ago.
No-Age-1944@reddit
There are lots of virtual mailbox companies, but based on reviews, US Global Mail is one of the top ones. They let you choose which items to discard, scan, or forward -and scans are now included in most plans. I’m currently in Thailand and have no issues getting my mail forwarded from them internationally. Using their Texas add...
Street_General4596@reddit
I’m moving to Thailand mid 2026, this is exactly what I’m looking for!
macrossdyrl@reddit
Reconsider their prices skyrocketed to $39.95/mo or $588/year!! Insane. They use to offer $9.95 - $19.95 plans. Dead
OpenMinded8899@reddit
Did you have to set it up before leaving the country?
No-Age-1944@reddit
yes! its best to set it up before leaving the country, as I made a change of address online, but for my husband, it needed him to go to the post office for verification.
patch1103@reddit
+1 for US Global Mail. I’ve been using them for 1.5 years. No issues, good service.
macrossdyrl@reddit
They jacked up all prices and the affordable tiers $9.95-$19.95 are eliminated! Can't get those prices GONE DEAD.
attorniquetnyc@reddit
I've been using ipostal.com, and it works pretty well. They partner with UPS stores and similar places with physical street addresses so that you can use their street address as your own. The portal gives you the ability to trash (for free), shred, or forward (for a fee) your mail. I use one in Miami, Florida. I was a Florida resident before I left the U.S., but also did it to maintain a presence in the state for business reasons.
WorthwhileDomains@reddit
I read some bad things about ipostal1, but you've had no problems?
Smurfiette@reddit
So, those who posted, how much does it cost you to get new credit cards etc. forwarded outside the US?
Or do you just stick to banks/providers that mail to addresses outside the US?
patch1103@reddit
I just had to get replacement cards from Chase and they sent to my overseas address. Didn’t cost me anything.
Ok_Gazelle4569@reddit
which one do you use?
TheWheez@reddit
Same, called chase to give them my international address and they sent it in a couple days
Specific_Web_1463@reddit
For what you described, I’d focus less on headline price and more on whether the service is reliable with scans, forwarding, and support for important mail like replacement cards. International forwarding fees and turnaround times are where a lot of the real differences show up. Also worth knowing that using a mailbox in a no-income-tax state doesn’t by itself make you a resident there. Check out PostalBridge - they've been great for me!

check above... have had horrible experience with them! Plenty of options out there. don't get stuck with traveling... won't even finish fulfilling our contract that we paid for (annual fee)
Entire_Difference504@reddit
There are honestly a ton of options out there, most of which are like $15-30 month. I know various options are usglobalmail.com, ipostal1.com, and travelingmailbox.com. I personally am using nomadpilot.io given I also switched my residency to florida for the sake of saving on taxes. I've really liked them - but again, they are more expensive since it's also a residency service.
ThePennyWolf@reddit
I’ve looked at many and decided on Traveling Mailbox about 12 years ago now. They have addresses in Florida and Delaware amongst others. You’ll love them too.

Congrats on your move to Korea — that’s a big step. Since you’re trying to figure out which virtual mailbox services are worth your time (and worth your money), here are some things I’d suggest thinking about specifically as an expat and based on what you described wanting.
Start With Mail Volume and Use Case, Not Just Price
It sounds like your primary needs are receiving new credit cards and the occasional important notice (like an IRS letter or something regulatory). That’s a pretty low volume of mail overall, but the type of mail matters — financial mail, bank/credit card correspondence, and potential tax forms all warrant careful handling.
Before you lock into a service, ask yourself:
Even with low volume, you still want a plan that includes enough scans and clear options for how you want each piece handled (trash, open & scan, forward).
A recent Upwork article compares features, pricing tiers, and major providers in a helpful way when weighing options:
https://www.upwork.com/resources/best-virtual-mailbox-services
When comparing plans, make sure you understand:
Check Deposit + Package Forwarding Options
Even though you said you mostly expect credit cards and occasional documents, the way a provider handles:
…really matters.
Some services only scan the front of checks or charge extra for endorsement. Others allow you to consolidate multiple packages into one shipment before sending internationally, which can save a lot on shipping fees.
Ask providers:
Security & Handling Is Important
Since you’re keeping important financial mail active, you want a provider with strong security and clear procedures. There’s a big difference between mail being handled in a professional commercial facility versus a small storefront or PO box setup.
Look for providers that:
Established companies with transparent operations are usually worth paying slightly more for when it comes to financial mail.
Address Choice: State With No Income Tax
You mentioned wanting an address in a state with no income tax just to be extra safe since you’ll be earning dividends.
A virtual mailbox address alone does not establish residency or change your tax obligations. State tax residency is determined by a combination of factors like domicile, voter registration, driver’s license, physical presence, and intent — not just where your mail is sent.
If you’re seriously trying to change state residency for tax purposes, that’s something to plan carefully with a CPA who understands expat taxation. For most people, mailbox location alone does not change their state tax exposure.
Shipping From the U.S. to Korea: What You Should Know
Since you’ll occasionally forward credit cards or important documents, it’s helpful to understand how shipping to Korea works.
Documents vs. goods matter a lot. Pure documents (paper only, credit cards, bank letters, tax notices) generally move through customs smoothly and do not trigger duties.
If you forward physical goods (electronics, clothing, supplements, etc.), customs becomes more involved.
Here are the key official resources:
USPS international mail rules for South Korea (includes restrictions and customs requirements):
https://pe.usps.com/text/imm/ps_023.htm
USPS customs forms and declaration requirements:
https://www.usps.com/international/customs-forms.htm
Korea Customs Service (official import rules and Personal Customs Clearance Code information):
https://www.customs.go.kr/english/main.do
Information on Korea’s Personal Customs Clearance Code (PCCC):
https://www.customs.go.kr/english/cm/cntnts/cntntsView.do?mi=10802&cntntsId=5502
In general:
For your use case — mostly credit cards and financial documents — you likely won’t run into major customs issues. Just make sure:
Best “Bang for the Buck” Means the Right Fit for You
Since your use case is low volume but high importance, prioritize:
Cheapest isn’t always best when your identity, credit cards, and tax documents are involved. Hope this helps!

Avoid ipostal1.com, they have way too many hidden fees. They even charge you if you want to pick up your mail from the location of ur virtual mailbox.
No_Session_5274@reddit
I don't recommend using Anytime Mailbox. They have hidden fees. I received about $300 in fees on a $20 a month subscription. Their customer service is awful. I've heard the locations can be nice, but it doesn't change the fees you can be charged if you don't stay constantly aware of your mail.
Outrageous_Study_512@reddit
I've been living in Australia now for 3 years and I was using my nephew's address but it got too complicated so I tried using iPostal1. I was so happy when I found the service that I paid for the whole year's service. WHAT a waste of money! For months I NEVER knew if I had mail or not that they didn't do anything, and that was after I paid an online Notary to notarize my signature to change my address. They sent me a photo of something from my Bank that I had changed my address to their address and I told iPostal1 to discard what they received. Now they're telling me I owe them money that my credit card number is not working for them. GOOD! I would NOT RECOMMEND iPostal1 at all!!! So now I don't have any Postal Service for the US. I'm all Aussie and I'll keep it that way. I hope there is a Good Postal Handling Service for everyone. Good Luck.

Most virtual mailbox services work fine if you only need simple stuff like scans or basic forwarding. But when I started setting up a LLC on the States and needed to verify my address with google, I realized I needed more than that. I ended up going with Building Lease Co because they could provide things like a lease, utility bill, and address confirmation, and they seemed more flexible with international clients than some of the other options I looked at.

I work at Stable (https://www.usestable.com/)... it’s mostly built for businesses, but it can be a good fit for individuals/expats too (we have a lot of folks that use for just that, it's just that we have a lot of automations that make it an ideal fit for folks that get really important / time-sensitive mail). You get a real US street address, can pick which items to shred, open/scan, or forward (including internationally), and manage everything from an online dashboard. A lot of people choose addresses in tax-friendly states, but your actual tax situation depends on more than just your mailing address, so it’s worth checking with a pro. If you do end up using Stable and your total revenue is under $1M, you get 50% off your first year (code is right here). One thing to note re: some of the cheaper providers, they have really low scan limits. So make sure to understand how much mail you plan on getting, and calculate how much additional that may cost you.
