The government has declared war on its citizens.
R2-DMode@reddit
Illegals are not citizens.
SpaceMagnet@reddit
The amount of dehumanization you're using throughout this thread is very alarming, and is often seen in the buildup to genocide. You should think carefully about how your rhetoric is directly contributing to active harm done to your fellow humans
R2-DMode@reddit
Criminals need to face consequences. I don’t need to reevaluate a damn thing. Perhaps defending and supporting illegal behavior hasn’t worked out in the long run?
festivalfriend@reddit
Good point, how’s that felon president of yours doing btw? Anyone going to prison for those Epstein files yet?
R2-DMode@reddit
Cite the convictions related to that. We’ll wait.
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
Cognitive dissonance, activate!
R2-DMode@reddit
How so? By asking for evidence?
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
You would like evidence of the 34 felony counts that the sitting president has?
R2-DMode@reddit
You mean the lawfare trial where the $465 million penalty was thrown an, and the rest of the case is going through the appeal process?
SpaceMagnet@reddit
Why are you still here? It's clear you have no interest in honestly discussing this topic, you only respond to what you think you can spin in your favor. You're so happy to call people who have not been convicted or found guilty of any crime 'illegal', but when it comes to Trump's legitimate felonies you point to appeals and are unwilling to accept the facts. You don't care about the rule of law, and you're happy to see it used as a tool of repression against those you don't like.
R2-DMode@reddit
If you are in the country illegally, you are here illegally, whether or not you have been caught or convicted. It’s not really that difficult.
I have no idea where you live, but I’m in Las Vegas, a hive of MS-13 gang activities, such as drug smuggling and human trafficking, not to mention burglary and murder. Illegals have driven up the cost of housing by creating a shortage in my city. Illegals driving without a license or insurance have driven up the cost of insurance here. Illegals have put a strain on our education system by flooding schools with non-English speaking children. Illegals have put a strain on our healthcare and law enforcement systems.
These are real issues that real American citizens have to deal with every day. In the event of a SHTF scenario, these situations will add to the uncertainty and difficulties of survival. That is why I am here, Mr. Gatekeeper.
SpaceMagnet@reddit
I don't doubt that many of the problems you've pointed out - the high cost of living, underfunded education systems, and a overwhelmed healthcare system - are legitimate problems that people in your community face. But I can say for sure that your blame is misplaced - it's not the decision of immigrants to maintain zoning laws that prohibit denser communities which would drive down the cost of housing, it's not their fault starter single family homes are being bought by corporations and converted into rentals, yet again driving housing costs up. It's not the fault of immigrants that our healthcare system can't keep up with demand. Cities could build affordable housing, we could fund nationwide healthcare instead of taking away Medicaid funding forcing rural hospitals all over the country to close. We could give schools the funding they need to bring down class sizes and have better resources, but again we as a society choose not to prioritize it. You're punching down, but the root of these issues comes from those with money and power, not people trying to survive on the margins of society.
Curious though how you still have nothing to say about your strong feelings that criminals need consequences while not caring that our President, who should be held to a higher standard than a regular citizen, is a convicted felon who has faced zero consequences for the many crimes he has committed.
R2-DMode@reddit
Based on your comments, I’m going to guess that you don’t live in a city with more than 170,000 illegals living in your neighborhoods. I do. I see the fallout of this on a daily basis. I have friends and family in both local and federal law enforcement, in real estate, in education, and in healthcare.
I’ve seen estimates that anywhere from 25,000 to 40,000 homes would become available in Las Vegas if the homes occupied illegals were suddenly vacated.
Las Vegas is also loaded with LEGAL immigrants. If you want to meet someone who really dislikes illegal immigration, talk with a legal immigrant.
Finally, my ancestors did migrate here, legally.
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
Interestingly, I read that LV tourism, among other cities, is suffering significantly due in part to the current administration’s international policies.
R2-DMode@reddit
Yes, we’re all aware of that narrative here. The reality is that gaming revenue is up (the only metric that matters), convention attendance is where it usually is, and room booking are down about 6%.
Vegas is doing just fine. But the hotels need to stop with bullshit pricing and fees.
SpaceMagnet@reddit
You also don't live in a city with 170,000 undocumented immigrants (your insistence on calling people illegal is disgusting) - you live in a state with 170,000 undocumented immigrants. I live in a city full of immigrants, a city that apparently has so much crime that we are being occupied by a government who can't even keep the (metaphorical) lights on.
I'm not going to try to tell you about the history of immigration laws because you've already ignored most of my comments to get back to some xenophobic nonsense, but we've had an open immigration policy for about as long as we haven't - if your ancestors came before the 1900s then they came to a country without a distinction between 'legal' and 'illegal' immigration.
Anyways, enjoy being a defender of 'law and order' and a felon.
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
If it was a democrat president their head would be exploding with rage at this. The hypocrisy and obvious lack of care for the law being equally applied is alarming. If it benefits them or is somehow “winning“ the law doesn’t apply.
“Curious though how you still have nothing to say about your strong feelings that criminals need consequences while not caring that our President, who should be held to a higher standard than a regular citizen, is a convicted felon who has faced zero consequences for the many crimes he has committed.”

No mention of Epstein.
GWS2004@reddit
I didn't say it mentioned Epstein. You asked about felonies.
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
OnLy EpSTeiN rElaTed FelOniEs CoUnT. 🤪 I wonder how many of the immigrants he hates so much have 34 felonies?
R2-DMode@reddit
Related to Epstein. Although, I’ll acknowledge I didn’t specifically say “Epstein”.
MenaFWM@reddit
Convicted of 34 counts of Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree. Violation of New York Penal Law § 175.10 (Falsifying business records in the first degree) which is a Class E felony.
R2-DMode@reddit
Don’t see anything in there that mentions Epstein. Weird.
MenaFWM@reddit
You asked about convictions, you got those details but..move those goal posts i guess.
R2-DMode@reddit
“Related to Epstein”. My bad for not clarifying.
MenaFWM@reddit
But what does Epstein have to do with anything? That has zero impact on the other 34 criminal convictions which by definition make Trump a criminal. And in your own words “criminals need to face consequences” and “perhaps defending and supporting illegal behavior hasn’t worked out in the long run”
But if you care so much about Epstein, you should be furious that the Trump administration keeps lying and attempting to delay the release of any more info no? You definitely dont defend and support that do you?
R2-DMode@reddit
Epstein was mentioned by the person I originally responded to. Keep up.
MenaFWM@reddit
Come on man, don’t be disingenuous. You know that’s two separate questions, not even remotely alluding that Trump is a felon tied to Epstein files.
The interesting part though is that while you’re trying to conflate those two question to avoid reality, you completely avoid answering the two questions I asked you about Epstein files.
R2-DMode@reddit
Oh, I hope the “Epstein files”, assuming they exist, get released. Then y’all will stop yapping about it. It’ll be like the time Rachel Maddow thought she was going to end Trump when she got his “tax returns”. LOL! That was absolutely hilarious!
SpaceMagnet@reddit
How about the 34 felony convictions? You still think that criminals like Trump should face consequences?
R2-DMode@reddit
Those are related to the Epstein files? How so?
SpaceMagnet@reddit
I never said anything about Epstein - you said that criminals should face consequences, and I said that Trump is a convicted criminal and therefore, by your own logic, should face consequences.
festivalfriend@reddit
This guy is either a bot or simply too fucking stupid to acknowledge that he’s been brainwashed.
Personally, I’m loving the view of the collapse of “the greatest country on earth” from Canada.
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
The biggest criminals have 34 felony counts but become president anyway so being a criminal can’t be that bad.
Absolutely hilarious to think magas care about illegal behavior.
R2-DMode@reddit
Sounds like you’d agree there should be penalties for breaking the law?
Due_Satisfaction2167@reddit
You are defending and supporting illegal behavior right Joe.
What ICE is doing is a crime.
R2-DMode@reddit
Enforcing immigration law is a crime? Explain.
Due_Satisfaction2167@reddit
The way they are enforcing it often has been. That's why they keep releasing the US citizens they arrest, without charges.
The crime they are committing is deprivation of rights under color of law.
R2-DMode@reddit
If ICE is breaking any laws, then they will get their day in court. Cleaning up the illegal immigration disaster isn’t going to be pretty.
ThrowawayRage1218@reddit
He doesn't care. He just wants brown people to die.
Wers81@reddit
Not all affected are “illegal” and even so they are entitled to due process. journalists, priests, being shot at beaten medics threatened with being shot by ice. This is not the way our government is supposed to work.
R2-DMode@reddit
Look up “expedited deportation”.
fro99er@reddit
No, look up signs of authoritarianism
R2-DMode@reddit
I don’t need to. That’s not a concern here.

Real quick, as it’s really easy to loose track of what’s going on nowadays:
Please be patient with me, it’s hard to keep track, as Chicago is flooding with bad news at the moment too.
anon_chieftain@reddit
Why is arresting criminals bad news?
Make it make sense
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
Because the biggest criminals have immunity and lead countries so being a criminal can’t be that bad.
anon_chieftain@reddit
Ok so no crime should be prosecuted at all? That’s your argument?
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
Sorry, should have added the /s.
anon_chieftain@reddit
Honestly I don’t understand what you are saying
So you do want criminals arrested? That’s good because that’s what ICE is doing
Far_City9963@reddit
Straight_Ace@reddit
How much do you want to bet that the deaths number is higher, and that a lot of the people they disappeared, never to be heard from again, were just never reported? I say this not to be a doomer, but because I don’t trust a single report this regime puts out
JmamAnamamamal@reddit
Iirc 2/3rds of alligator Alcatraz just went missing.
Straight_Ace@reddit
And doesn’t that seem incredibly suspicious given the horrific conditions of what is essentially a concentration camp?
bunchedupwalrus@reddit

Multiple people have died during ICE raids in southern California though. One man died falling off a roof and another was hit by a car.
They wouldn't have died if not for the raids so...

Much fewer now than a couple months ago.
Very much active throughout greater LA, but seems like the surge of raids has slowed.
Indirectly, several people have died while running from ICE or while in custody in California
Babyflower81@reddit
ICE is still active in my area north of LA by about an hour. I get notifications all the time of where they are kidnapping in my county.
garlic070@reddit
Yes. According to NPR, there are \~100 National Guard members as of October 11. I don't know what they're doing at this exact moment, but in general they've been standing around pretending to protect buildings.
Yes. They raid car washes, Home Depots, and other places. The raids are smaller, quicker, and spread out over a large areas, including suburban areas. So it's harder for the news media to cover them compared to say, large raids in downtown districts.
Yes. ICE isn't shooting people dead in the streets, but people are dying in the ICE detention facilities.
nighshad3@reddit
Thank you so much! It’s insane! If you take into consideration January 6th and all of what’s going on right now, do you believe that Trump aims for a civil war? Maybe to have a reason to not leave office in 2028?
Frequent_Can117@reddit
January 6th made it obvious. It’s why I got pissed at everyone saying “wait til midterms”. Midterms aren’t happening. Insurrection act will be used at that time, or he’ll use ICE at polling centers to intimidate people and fix it. Fair elections, not happening. Until then, they are trying to antagonize people so they can justify it easier.
Apologies for the bluntness. I am still bitter and dumbfounded that people still voted for this guy and have the nerve to act “woe is me” and shocked at what he is doing. They were warned, they still voted him in, this is 100% on them. Not our fault they were this dumb.

Wers81@reddit
No but the are the body guards for the thugs. It’s meant to intimidate everyone the President of peace sanctions undue force on the people in america.
Girafferage@reddit
Yeah, it is meant to intimidate. Luckily the courts have been helping to dial back the nonsense and call out the legal violations
RandallsBakery@reddit
I have the same question. I keep seeing tons of stuff about Chicago and Portland but no updates/videos of Cali.

Educate yourself, you're spreading misinformation, you sounds like a troll.
WhatIsHerJob-TABLES@reddit
You are the one sounding like a troll. The dude just asked a simple question while earnestly admitting this onslaught of information is confusing so they’d like clarification on what is happening. How is asking someone for clarification on what’s actually happening spreading misinformation??
Playful_Possible_379@reddit
Really? Dumb ass I live in LA, you're spreading fear and hatred. None of what you say is true. Sure our president is garbage. But this isn't helpful for the masses.
WhatIsHerJob-TABLES@reddit
The fuck dude. Are you a bot? Because you are being woefully dense. People are asking for clarification not spreading misinformation.
“I heard someone tell me that 2+2=5 but someone else told me that 2+2=4. I’m confused, can anyone confirm which one is correct?”
“WHY ARE YOU SPREADING MISINFORMATION!!?!?! YOU MUST BE A TROLL!!!!”
That’s how ridiculous you sound. Take a step back and breath. People asking for clarification amongst receiving an onslaught of information is NOT spreading misinformation.
nighshad3@reddit
How am I spreading misinformation by asking questions?
Playful_Possible_379@reddit
You're not asking questions. You're insinuating. You could easily Google this, and in fact if you had, you would have known; ICE IS always operating, it's a fed agency National guard left a while ago and so did the Marines
And seriously?? People being killed by ice? You're a Russian or foreign asset troll.
bikumz@reddit

Wers81@reddit
They also threatened to shoot a medic
Far_City9963@reddit
Any guesses if Trump actually will use the Insurrection Act?
snasna102@reddit
Do you think the insurrection act will actually change how Americans navigate their super quiet dislike of the authoritarian regime? Or do they keep taking it laying down?
When do the 2A’ers save America like they claim they will have to whenever the topic of gun control laws have been discussed? Because it seems they joined the governments tyranny
Kspoonie@reddit
This is the reason every American should be a 2A’er. Just not one side.
warboy@reddit
If anything, this administration's actions should tell you the rights granted to us by our government are meaningless including the 2A. being armed is a good thing but if you require the protection of a piece of paper issued by a tyrannical government to do so, the right to bare arms only applies when that government says you can.
ICE, cops, the military, etc. won't care about your 2A rights when they come knocking at your door.
aggravatedimpala@reddit
They just may care afterwards
warboy@reddit
They really won't. They'll just call you a terrorist if you even managed to drop one. Face the facts. Your rights granted to you by this clown state are meaningless. It's up to the people to establish their rights for themselves and I don't see that happening anytime soon.
aggravatedimpala@reddit
I'm not disagreeing with you, but I have a feeling people are becoming very aware of the disinformation being spread by mass media. Someone's going to let off instead of answering the door, and while they'll get painted as an enemy of the state, I think most citizens along with history will remember them differently
warboy@reddit
Eh, I've been a leftist for awhile so I'm fairly jaded. Maybe you're right but historically speaking you aren't. That doesn't mean things can't change though.
aggravatedimpala@reddit
The first dissidents that were executed by Nazi Germany remembered as terrorists or enemies of the state, as much as they are martyrs for a righteous cause. Time will tell how much blood will be shed over this, but there are enough cameras in citizens hands to where the real story will be documented more so than not. The revolution will be live streamed, so to speak.
escapefromburlington@reddit
Why do you think they're investing so much in AI? All that documentation is going to be worthless amidst the flood of photoreal ai slop
FelineOphelia@reddit
Rights aren't granted to people by the state.
You must have been absent that day in history.
OUR RIGHTS ARE INHERENT
Gyirin@reddit
In theory, sure. What exactly are you supposed to do if the people with better arms who don't give a shit about constitution come for you?
warboy@reddit
🙄
There_Are_No_Gods@reddit
That statement implies a fundamental misunderstanding of the very essence of the Bill of Rights. That document is listing out inalienable rights, defining what the people do not allow the government to do.
The second amendment, along with all the others, is legally defining that the government has no authority to restrict those inalienable rights.
This is not just semantics, but a core principal of the founding of the USA.
warboy@reddit
You sure about that? I want you to look around and say this with a straight face.
Look dude, it was an interesting experiment. Lots of good came from it but at the end of the day it is failing in real time. That piece of paper only has value of the state chooses to abide by it. If they don't you can be buried with your inalienable rights as a nice keepsake.
FelineOphelia@reddit
BY NO MEANS does this imply that you didn't have those rights.
That someone committed violence against you does not in any way whatsoever mean that you do not inherently possess a right.
warboy@reddit
Ahh so rights are meaningless then. Cool
There_Are_No_Gods@reddit
I think we have a difference of opinion on most of that, but I do agree with this part:
Ultimately it does come down to the people to enforce their will on the government. That's a tough ask in modern USA, but that's the brass tacks of it nonetheless.
uski@reddit
There is one side of the government that keeps signing new laws restricting 2A and these laws have actual implications on people wanting to use their 2A "rights"
Look at all the California regulations around firearms
Latest law is the one banning Glocks, probably the most popular brand of handguns, because it could be converted to a machine gun... Using something already illegal.
So that new rule only causes issues for law abiding people, criminals won't care, they don't care already
FelineOphelia@reddit
Exactly
RIGHTS ARE NOT GRANTED TO US
and especially more so by the government lolololol
Rights are inherent to our condition as human.
FelineOphelia@reddit
And who exactly are we going around shooting then??
For real---- why do I need a gun rn? What am I doing with the guns I have rn, exactly?
Who am I meant to aim at?
Please, for real, tell me cuz I keep hearing this "the left should be 2a" but i don't see who exactly I'm supposed to k!ll to so the constant regume advancment.
Arming to isn't the answer.
Kspoonie@reddit
It’s not about going around shooting anybody. It’s about protecting your liberties as an American. Just as our forefathers intended. Those intentions were ment for both sides of the isle. For some reason the left has convinced people to abandon that ability. That should be a red flag. The world isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes evil works its way into control. We need to stay armed and vigilant and know when to shed blood to keep our sovereignty.
rfvijn_returns@reddit
My wife is a brown, naturalized citizen. I have a daughter with special needs. From what I’ve heard those are groups the administration doesn’t like and will probably try to round up eventually. I will not allow my wife and daughter to be rounded. I’m not prepared for some end of the world scenario. I prep to keep my family from being abducted.
My family on both sides, fought in the revolutionary war. I will not shame the ghosts of my ancestors.
mwpdx86@reddit
This is always my thought when I see posts like this. The left also has the 2A, and the more people who are armed and trained, the better something like that is gonna go.
shortzr1@reddit
I wouldn't discount it too much - I'm very much in favor of civil liberties and social safety nets supporting people as such. I am also in favor of 2A, albeit with much stricter access for things that are more deadly. Along those lines I'd also support personal access to certain drugs like antibiotics if you can pass certain tests and standards. Let the people clear the bar, but have a bar to clear.
Fabulous-Dig7583@reddit
No one is scared of a buch of purple haired so-boys wearing their sisters skinny jeans.
a_duck_in_past_life@reddit
No. Stop saying we should use guns. Do you have any idea how that would play out? This is a long term battle. Not a 2nd amendment wet dream. Wake up.
rfvijn_returns@reddit
You don’t need to use force. The other side simply needs to know that there is a threat of force.
Cold-Crab74@reddit
The people you are referring to are the ones running around with I.C.E on their backs
Girafferage@reddit
Nah, the second amendment is for every citizen. Practice all your rights.
WhatIsHerJob-TABLES@reddit
We get that. When people say “ the 2Aers” they are specifically talking about the folks who make guns nearly their entire personality. Many leftists have guns and respect the 2A, but only the 2Aers have guns as their profile pics, make posts about their fantasies using the 2A to fight tyranny, make jokes about shooting libs, are too afraid to leave their house without a gun, etc etc etc
rfvijn_returns@reddit
Most liberal 2a folks don’t go around advertising it. Those jokes are funny until they try to kick the door in of someone just as ready to go as they are.
a_duck_in_past_life@reddit
This is inflammatory. Do you have any idea how that shit plays out if we start getting violent? It doesn't end with any kind of achievable victory. This isn't the old days like the revolutionary war.
gard3nwitch@reddit
One thing that I think is worth keeping in mind is that both the Taliban and the Viet Cong defeated the US military. It is possible for a determined group to make a country ungovernable, even against an enormously superior force.
That being said, I really don't want to go down that path, if we have another option. The violence required, and the violence that it'll be met with.... It'll be terrible. If there's an option that avoids that, while still allowing us to preserve our freedoms, we should take it.
Cold-Crab74@reddit
Love to know how you see this playing out, best case scenario? Realistic best case scenario?
Theunknown87@reddit
“Be smart and not violent”. At some point that fails.
Will you just wait in the dark the and peacefully get rounded up then?
abitdaft1776@reddit
Most likely. We are kept comfortably poor. What I mean is that most Americans can afford food, a place to live and enough streaming subscriptions to keep us placated, so long as we continue to work for companies that pay us just more than the minimum to afford those things.
A real revolution cannot happen until those with too much to lose, lose enough. The government knows that and is very careful not to do too much in one area that will upset the masses.
Unfortunately, such action by the American people will require a small group of radicals to put enough pain on the administration that they vastly over react, injecting a large amount if entropy into the majority of the populace.
There are also logistical issues. It would most Americans several days of driving to get to a strategic area, if not a full week. The country is VAAAAST, whereas the military has bases in nearly every state.
This is not to say an armed resistance could not occur, just that they majority have not felt enough pain yet.
Girafferage@reddit
Practicing your right to bear arms does not mean "go shoot people".
SBTreeLobster@reddit
What do you mean "start"? Is the violence against minorities, attempted assassination of PA Governor Shapiro, successful assassination of Melissa Hortman, consistent assaulting of peaceful protestors, and the admin deciding people who are against the Admin are "Antifa" and have stated they will treat Antifa as they do the Venezuelans they're executing remotely without any due process or real criminal investigation?
The violence has been here. The only reason why we're not in a shooting war isn't because we're being mindful, it's because we're being spineless.
Kevin Roberts said the revolution would be bloodless if the left allows it. We clearly see now that he meant bloodless for their side.
When we get to this point in an authoritarian administration, peaceful and nonpeaceful protests become two sides of the same coin, a carrot and a stick. You have to use both to express to people who only speak through violence that maybe they'd be better off taking a different route.
Being smart would have been organized mass protests more than once a season, but 50501 isn't about anything other than hoping a broken system fixes itself. Being smart would have meant putting in the work before we got to this point. Now we need to be smart AND bold.
demonslayer901@reddit
I think it time to accept this will happen
Cold-Crab74@reddit
Yeah but it's a specific group that makes it their identity and those people are not preparing to use their rights as the founders intended that's for sure

They won’t until they themselves are physically threatened. Even then, once you pull that trigger there is no going back and you will most likely end up dead or in jail the rest of your life. So you have to back someone so far into a corner that they see no other way out than to take the life of someone. That is much further off than most people think.
Traditional-Handle83@reddit
Yea but its starting to become where even saying anything negative about the government or king will get you the same treatments. Prison for life or KIA. Not to mention right now if you have the wrong skin color and in some instances, the wrong religion or sexuality, you'll be disappeared, probably to a furnace since lot of people are literally just disappearing without any means to find where they were sent too regardless of their citizenship status.
ragun2@reddit
Right now most Americans might be concerned about the direction things are heading and are less comfortable than they'd like but they're not desperate and terrified yet.
I think the saying is something like "revolution is three missed meals away". While the job market continues to shrink, more and more people lose their healthcare and deaths rise because of it, food shortages and prices of everything continue to go up... We still won't be there for a long time.
Even the majority of fat fuck gun hoarding types itching for a civil war know deep down that if such a thing erupts, it's going to make their own lives wildly uncomfortable which is why they haven't actually tried anything major yet even though they might the get chance to go "liberal hunting".
Zerodyne_Sin@reddit
I'm giving them the benefit of a doubt that the left wing 2A'ers read history and have a fear of pulling a Franz Ferdinand. Clearly, the fascists are trying to manufacture a crisis so that they can use the insurrection clause to declare martial law so it's difficult to resist.
That said, there are other ways of fighting back that the Americans don't seem to want to engage in. A general strike during the government shutdown would be a perfect time to make demands. There are some other, more violent ways as well and it's already happened in red states which is why the orange cheeto can't utilize the insurrection clause plan. But I'm pretty sure I'd get yet another ban for advocating such a thing so I'm instead pushing for the general strike.
Wers81@reddit
The general strike would be good too many people I have heard say but but I have a job I’ll lose. 🤔
Zerodyne_Sin@reddit
I definitely understand the fear and as it is now in Canada, I would never do it. If things are at the point where people are getting kidnapped left and right, I'd personally be doing more than striking.
As for losing a job because of a general strike, is America at the point where they can fire everyone on staff and replace them instantly? The point of a general strike is everyone does it.
Wers81@reddit
It’s weird because parts of america are not affected much by what’s happening other areas as you can see by videos being posted is a nightmare. Honestly if the unions would get behind a strike I don’t think there is much they could do if approximately 30 milllion took to the streets.
Zerodyne_Sin@reddit
There's a lot they could do. It took them almost 50 years but they lobbied and slowly but surely clawed back all the rights that labour had won. It's a bit of a conspiracy theory but from what I've read up on, around the 1970s, late 1960s is when the wealthy elite noticed that tying a candidate to religion lets them get away with almost any policy changes (no matter how bad it is for the average labourer) culminating in Reagan's presidency. Then there's citizen's united and they had won. I'm not saying this to be doomerist but rather, reiterate that anything they could do would take several decades (until they were permanently removed ie: tax wealth properly so that there's no billionaires). And yes, the wealthy elite will hold a grudge and they never forgave the 90% tax during Roosevelt's era.

cyanescens_burn@reddit
Not sure if you are a living in the US, but generally speaking, the loud 2A folks with the Gadsden flags (don’t tread on me snake) are maga and are happy about this. From what I’ve seen on social media, a lot of them are not getting the news that random us citizens are getting detained in the dragnets too, and not always because they were interfering in some way (like those folks in the apartments in Chicago, or those people in the pharmacy).
In watching or reading some of the media they consume, I get why. It often excludes, downplays, or editorializes such news (giving justifications for this, or showing edge cases like a U.S. citizen being detained after actually interfering, and then implying all cases of us citizens being detained involved interference, when that’s not always true).
There’s so much distrust of the media that many of them will reflexively discount any reporting from outside their media bubble too. And even in cases where say someone they know ends up affected, they tend to think it’s not common, or that a few mistakes are worth the overall mission.
Then there’s the issue of connecting dots and seeing the larger context of consolidation of power to the president and away from courts and congress and the states, and seeing parallels to happenings throughout the last 100 years or so.

Partisan study? Here’s an actual non-partisan analysis:
https://cis.org/Report/Retail-Produce-Prices-Without-Illegal-Farmworkers
wardedmocha@reddit
I'm sorry you are quoting a study that was done in February 2, 1996. Also you are quoting a study that already has BIAS from who it was published by.
Using the CPI Inflation calculator, $0.05 in 1996 is now $1.03 today. Using Macrotrends (https://www.macrotrends.net/4928/us-lettuce-prices) As of aug 1 2025, lettuce cost $1.67, If you added the increased cost it would be $2.72 cents. Using the same pricing data, the cost would have be $0.57 in 1996. This is a super outdated study.
R2-DMode@reddit
Assume for a moment that your “back of the napkin” economic analysis is correct, I’m still fine with those numbers. I’m OK with paying more for produce that’s harvested by legal workers who aren’t being paid slave wages. I’m also OK with YOU paying more as well.
wardedmocha@reddit
Not just produce. EVERYTHING.
R2-DMode@reddit
I’ll clarify further then: I’m OK paying more for anything and everything, if that’s the result of not exploiting people for slave wages and horrific working conditions, and the work is done by legal workers. I’m also OK with YOU paying more for EVERYTHING.
r00tie_tootie@reddit
Dude, slave wages are literally the backbone of this country. Just look at the federal minimum wage. You're being very unpatriotic right now.
R2-DMode@reddit
LOL!!!
catspongedogpants@reddit
Ok im not. I guess our opinions cancel out so you can stfu now thx
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
Nonpartisan? LOL. An opinion piece from 1996. According to Wikipedia, The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) is an American anti-immigration think tank. Not sure that is the best source for unbiased information on labor economics.
Economists widely agree that removing immigrant labor would lead to higher food prices due to labor shortages in agriculture and food processing. Without immigrant workers, crops would go unharvested, production costs would rise, and the price of groceries for consumers would increase significantly. Models from institutions like the Peterson Institute for International Economics estimate that mass deportations could raise prices by several percentage points, with the agriculture sector being hit the hardest.
Tomatoes are being mown down in Florida because there is no one to pick them. Ironically, there was a mass import from Mexico to hedge against this exact scenario.

wardedmocha@reddit
Yes.... The data is flawed, it may not have been at the time but almost 30 years later, yea..... the data is flawed now.
R2-DMode@reddit
Simply claiming that the data is flawed does not prove the data is flawed. Got any actual evidence to support your claim?
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
You’ll never get one. A likely origin of the "5-cent lettuce" myth:
The figure may have originated from a misinterpretation of a different calculation. A 2020 analysis by the EPI looked at the impact of increasing farmworkers' wages, not removing them, on the cost of lettuce. It found that a farmworker receives about $0.13 out of a $1.20 head of iceberg lettuce. A substantial wage increase for the workers would only translate to a minor change in the retail price.
R2-DMode@reddit
That’s not the study to which I referred. This is:

“The removal of illegal workers from the seasonal agricultural workforce would increase the summer-fall supermarket prices of fresh fruits and vegetables by about 6 percent in the short run and 3 percent in the intermediate term. During the winter-spring seasons, prices would rise more than 3 percent in the short term and less then 2 percent in the intermediate term. Imports would increase about 1 percent.”

I just don't think anything that we are doing is going to be sustainable for the long term. There is going to be a collapse of our society and a lot of people are going to die.
I don't know when it's coming, but it feels closer and closer every day. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. When you see all the shortages in workers in a single industry there is going to be more and more shortages. When you look at a single industry its sustainable, but when you look at how interconnected everything its a house of cards held up with toothpicks and duck tape. We saw happen during COVID with cars and the shortage of computer chips to put in the cars.

Deportations will increase H-2 visas. This will lower “slave wages” further and refutes the argument that deportation will benefit Americans who may replace this labor, as if anyone believed that to begin with…. https://www.epi.org/publication/the-h-2b-visa-program-has-ballooned-without-being-fixed-expanding-it-to-year-round-jobs-like-meatpacking-would-lower-wages-and-revenue/

R2-DMode@reddit
Enforcing immigration law is “acting like thugs”? How would you enforce immigration law and remove illegals?
Wers81@reddit
Enforcing immigration is one thing ripping people from cars shooting a priest those are actions of gangsters, thugs whatever you want to call it. Sending children hundreds of miles to detention is nothing short of abuse.
