What was in your school lunch?

I usually had either Hi-C or CapriSun.

I usually had either Hi-C or CapriSun.
cnhn@reddit
I don't recognize any of those from lunch. this was my lunch drink
m0h3k4n@reddit
Did we all get most of our fiber from the shredded openings on these?
PhantoWolf@reddit
We only had chocolate on Thursdays. 20 years later, when I think or hear the word Thursday, I still picture this in my mind.
Bird_Herder@reddit
We only had it once a month, and there was a limited supply. I got detention for the first time because I cut through the library to get to the cafeteria before they ran out. Of course, by the time the librarian wrote up my detention slip, I was one of the last people in line and missed out on the chocolate milk.
PhantoWolf@reddit
I found John Bender!
blacktrufflesheep@reddit
I can't imagine John Bender drinking something as wholesome as chocolate milk, and if he wanted it that badly, he would've just stolen it when the lunch ladies weren't looking.
BullCityCoordinators@reddit
The gold standard lunch drink.
HomelessKitchenCat@reddit
Mom wouldn't buy chocolate milk at home so school actually felt more luxurious 😅
BullCityCoordinators@reddit
Same.
m0h3k4n@reddit
A mix of hi-c, squeezits, and capri sun. Probably depending on weekly sales.
Other-Squirrel-2038@reddit
Yoohoo or Capri sun if I went for anything other than water
kalitarios@reddit
General_Departure583@reddit
Over the course of K-12 , all of them at one time or another.
WanderingGenesis@reddit
aytchdave@reddit
Damn. Forgot about these.
6BigZ6@reddit
Core memory unlocked!
aytchdave@reddit
All those except Yooohoo. Totally forgot about Squeezit until now.
upliketrump@reddit
Alll minus the bottom 2 on this Apple juice cup and the those other juices were the weekend bbq juices
Odoyle-Rulez@reddit
Whatever the school had 😒
WaitUntilTheHighway@reddit
Ha none of it ever, my mom never bought any of that sugary shit. I did get some from trades at school though, nothing like pure sugar water to fire up the afternoon's classes!
StillhasaWiiU@reddit
I had water, it was free.
LegitimateFeeling693@reddit
Am I the only one that thought Yoohoo and Sunny-D tasted awful? Squeeze-Its were the winner.
HomelessKitchenCat@reddit
Sunny D is like chugging citric acid while someone screams the word ORANGE directly in your ear
LegitimateFeeling693@reddit
🤣🤣That is accurate as hell.
Blackbird136@reddit
AWFUL. Both of them!!
I begged my mom to buy me Yoo-hoo after seeing the commercial and when I tasted it I almost vomited!! 🤢🤢
DarthBster@reddit
I liked Sunny D alright. The alternate tropical flavor was better than the og.
LegitimateFeeling693@reddit
It’s like watered down chocolate milk.
UDontWinFrendsWSalad@reddit (OP)
Yeah we never got Yoohoo, we always made Quik chocolate milk and I finally tasted yoohoo once and it was so watery.
NW_Forester@reddit
None of those, got milk or chocolate milk at school for a quarter even on days I'd pack my lunch.
elphaba00@reddit
None of those. My mom was absolutely not on board with buying products that she thought were targeted to kids. I didn't get an allowance, so I saved whatever spare change I could get to buy myself the snacks that other kids were getting on the regular.
supergirlsudz@reddit
Same here. My mom was staunchly anti-juice box. On the rare occasion she’d get them, it was always Mott’s 100% Apple Juice. I always wanted those Kool-Aid Cooler things 😭
seanymphcalypso@reddit
Had to be one of the first 8 or whatever to get the chocolate milk. Now when my daughter goes to school she can have white, chocolate, or pink milk for breakfast or lunch if she wants. Thanks to free breakfast/lunch programs I don’t even need to send her with that quarter!
RockItGuyDC@reddit
I sure hope pink is strawberry or something and not just pink.
NW_Forester@reddit
What we did, K-5th grade we would tell the teacher what we wanted at the start of class if you wanted hot lunch and if you wanted milk, and if so what type, Chocolate, 2%, or 0%. Always got what you ordered.
Grades 6-12 there was no pre-ordering, but I can't remember there ever being a shortage of milk. We did get some "fruit drink" alternatives with lunch in 6th grade that were popular.
RockItGuyDC@reddit
Milk was $.25, chocolate milk was $.35 for me. Small bag of chips (Funyuns or Doritos, baby!) after lunch was also $.25, but ice cream was $.50.
bluemitersaw@reddit
Same.
Except I got a dollar to buy a drink of choice. Then I traded some kid fruit snacks for his milk and kept the dollar. This is how I saved up my first $100
XIENVYIX@reddit
This guy PNW's
Ok-Rock2345@reddit
I got the chocolate milk as well.
akadebso@reddit
Ecto and pacific cooler >>>>>>>>>>>
What_Next69@reddit
Hi-C or Mondo
theluzah@reddit
Usually water in my thermos
sqquuee@reddit
The bouncing souls drank all the fucking yoohoo!
ohheyaine@reddit
SqueezIts
RoyalPuzzleheaded259@reddit
Where the little cafeteria milks? They were my lunch drink.
Jewggerz@reddit
My mom wouldn't let me drink any of these on a regular basis. 😔 yoo hoo is the best of the bunch though, imo.
Cael_NaMaor@reddit
We had milk at school, carton then a bag. That was it. My family couldn't afford shit like this
leeloocal@reddit
Those were for field trips. I had milk for a quarter in the cafeteria.
RoundTheBend6@reddit
You had lunch?
tacitjane@reddit
None. 85 cents for provided lunch at my k-8 Chicago public school. It was less or free for eligible families. Nearly no one brought lunch regularly.
School went from 9-2:30. Kindergarten was only a half day (2.5 hrs) so no lunch.
StitchesKisses@reddit
Capri suns for sure. Squeeze it's only when they were on sale.
frodo28f@reddit
Whatever the free options for poor people were at school
almost_cromulent@reddit
Kool-Aid Jammers, Baybeeee! Great Bluedini, to be precise 🪄
withbellson@reddit
Some of the kids got into collecting Squeezit caps in my elementary school. Ah: trash, a child’s favorite toy.
LilBrutButt@reddit
What is in bottom right corner unlabeled? I believe we called those super sippies? I haven't had them since I was in kindergarten in the 80s so my memory might be off as I'm much, much, much older now.
shemurmurs@reddit
Yes, I thought they were sippy sips or something like that. I think you got it though, Super Sips sounds right.
UDontWinFrendsWSalad@reddit (OP)
I can’t remember! We only had them with hot lunches, but I feel like they had a name like: Fruit Stand or something? I don’t know why that popped into my head.
codebygloom@reddit
None in my school lunch but the Squeezeit was there waiting for me when I got home.
99anan99@reddit
TryTwiceAsHard@reddit
These somehow tasted like the color they were.
BrainFartTheFirst@reddit
I would have been fine with any of these but the Capri Sun was usually what was packed for me.
ratpH1nk@reddit
Did any ones elementary school in the 80's like to take those Hi-C boxes and freeze them and eat them like a slushie at lunch? (east coast/mid-atlantic)
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
We didn't but you know what we got? They had these things called Minute Maid juice bars that were made of fruit juice and you ripped them open and ate them frozen:
LACna@reddit
They still make something similar, but it doesn't taste the same, the texture is way off. Only 2 flavors (Lemonade & Raspberry) & I buy them @ Smart & Final.
free-toe-pie@reddit
Grape was so damn good.
6BigZ6@reddit
Omg those were so fucking good. I have a real love/hate relationship with this sub.
johnvalley86@reddit
Those were the bomb! Wish they still made them. I actually just bought a box of Minute Maid tropical punch today. Might have to dust off the popsicle mold for Old Time sake
UDontWinFrendsWSalad@reddit (OP)
Yes! I literally just put a juice box I found in the fridge in the freezer.
seanymphcalypso@reddit
A decade ago I would do the same thing. Give it an hour for a softer slushie and add tequila for a very easy frozen margarita. Nowadays I just respect the pouch.
ratpH1nk@reddit
niiiiiiiice!
idleat1100@reddit
A coke wrapped in aluminum foil.
ihatecleaningtoilets@reddit
I couldn’t afford to take lunch so I ate my free lunch
bloodectomy@reddit
Capri Sun and Squeezits usually. Juice boxes sometimes.
AlienDelarge@reddit
I don't recall taking any of those to school but I still would drink ecto cooler if I could.
Individual-Money-734@reddit
HI -C Ecto cooler

TacoTheSuperNurse@reddit
None of it. This was all too expensive.
Young_Former@reddit
Definitely a squeez it!
Abremac@reddit

buddahsumo@reddit
This, because my mom was anti anything with added sugar.
grunkle_dan78@reddit
Jolt cola
Holmes221bBSt@reddit
Ecto-Cooler and Squeeze It. Fun tip: the white Gatorade tastes exactly like a Squeeze It
Sinistas@reddit
Milk. Does a body good.
Imaginary-Oil-9984@reddit
None of those. Parents were really strict about sugar.
Chickenbrik@reddit
All of these at one point or another except the last image. Mostly room temp Yoo-hoo though
SoftConsideration459@reddit
Directions to the water fountain
teatsqueezer@reddit
Totally. Not even a water bottle just the fountain to rely on.
tasukiko@reddit
Milk I bought at lunch or minute maid orange or grape juice boxes. My parents wouldn't let us have any of the foods or drinks they thought were too artificial.
Im_100percent_human@reddit
I sometimes got a Ssips juice box because they were Ccheap.
wreakinghaddock@reddit
Capri Sun!!
mlayman13@reddit
None we were so poor we got free lunch.
Settler52@reddit
Wow. Do you have diabetes?
OwnPlatypus4129@reddit
None. Mom didn't buy what she called "junk" and we were poor. School chocolate milk!
misterlakatos@reddit
Haha I drink Capri-Suns to this day. My daughter loves them and I loved them as a kid as well.
So there was this obscure marshmallow treat that I loved called Marshmallow Munchie. It was better than a Rice Krispies Treat bar.
Every_Instruction775@reddit
Ecto-cooler was the best
OnlyGuestsMusic@reddit
Usually apple juice in a tin thermos or a carton of milk. Sometimes Hawaiian Punch or Hi-C.
mybffjones@reddit
Yoo-hoo
summerlea1@reddit
Whatever the school lunch was.
mindsunwound@reddit
sleepwalkfromsherdog@reddit
Hawaiian Punch im grade school. Half pint milk and 4oz orange juice in middle and high school.
Global-Jury8810@reddit
Dad put a Coca Cola in my second grade lunch one time and I got so much shit from my classmates from it. The teacher was most forgiving and told me to make sure it never happens again and to enjoy my Coca Cola. I’m sure that pissed them off. I didn’t care. I wasn’t friends with any of them.
Chain-Slinger@reddit
Unpopular choice but 2% in the 8oz carton. The chocolate milk always tasted a bit off.
Sharpshooter188@reddit
Caprisuns. Usually with a cheese sandwich and potato chips.
lokipuddin@reddit
I’m pretty sure I took a sip of water when I brushed my teeth in the morning and at night and that’s it.
Apprehensive-Cat-111@reddit
Maybe that apple juice. Absolutely none of the fun stuff in this photo though. We had those bags of milk that we as kids called breast implants.
JeebusCrispy@reddit
One of many flavors of Shasta.
donutseason@reddit
Give me Minute Maid fruit punch or give me nothing! 😆
sator-2D-rotas@reddit
Frozen ecto cooler to keep everything else cold.
Joeva8me@reddit
All of these made rotation. Also the slushie thing. Mom was a rockstar
Reasonable-Company71@reddit

Store brand juice boxes
mrs_snrub67@reddit
Ecto cooler or squeeze its, but only for field trips
Whatchab@reddit
None of these. My mom was a hippie and I wasn't allowed. Still mad about it.
Ive_seen_things_that@reddit
I can taste the micro plastic in the bottom right corner drink.
fatbrucelee@reddit
Free lunch in elementary scheel because not much money. I remember having access to chips etc that was extra and not included in school lunch. High school was more school lunch plus regular access to chocolate milk. And probably junk like pizza.
elkniodaphs@reddit
A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, something like a fruit cup or pudding, cheese or peanut butter crackers, something from Little Debbie, and every day a wriiten note from my mom telling me how much she loves me.
johnvalley86@reddit
Hi C normally but every now and then I had those little barrels with the foil on top. Just straight sugar water with dye in it
DirtRight9309@reddit
Huggies!
BossDjGamer@reddit
Pretty sure it was milk in a thermos
TooTallBrawl1919@reddit
Hi-c, Squeezers and Capri Sun. Whatever was on sale that week and there could be a triple coupon for 😆
MoonlitBlossoms@reddit
I loved Squeezits and Ecto Cooler. But for middle and high school lunches, I usually had a Blue Sky soda in cherry vanilla or cream soda or one of the VeryFine Juices.
aspect-of-the-badger@reddit
Lol, I don't think I ever got any of those let alone for lunch.
TijayesPJs443@reddit
Minute Maid boxes for sure
kriptyk666@reddit
Yup, this is what I got, and now I give them to my kids!
UDontWinFrendsWSalad@reddit (OP)
Oh yes! Forgot about those!!
Possible-Sort5972@reddit
I loved mini-sips in the 80s and 90s (made by Farmers and Scotsburn—the latter called them Little Squirts),
and I can’t forget Beep!
Quimbymouse@reddit
I scrolled too much to find this.
Possible-Sort5972@reddit
Deep-Ad4351@reddit
I to this day always have Yoo-Hoo in my fridge. One of my favorite memories is walking to Whitestone Bagel Factory in Queens and getting a plain or garlic bagel and Yoo-Hoo.
But school lunches I always had Squeeze-Its cause I liked their faces
BadassSasquatch@reddit
You rich or something?
Sensitive-Review-712@reddit
Hi-C, usually fruit punch or cherry. Sometimes, my mom bought the Hawaiian Punch juice boxes if I asked at the right time.
UDontWinFrendsWSalad@reddit (OP)
Hahaha! I remember a friend had Hawaiian Punch and I thought it was so cool because it was a box not a rectangle like other juice boxes.
Wolf_Parade@reddit
Nothing with a brand on it. Apple, sandwich I made, chips in another sandwich bag, carrots maybe. Poor people food my friend called it.
6BigZ6@reddit
Don’t forget your mom’s writing on the brown bag.
Wolf_Parade@reddit
Lol no. Can't say what grade I started doing it but 2nd at the latest cuz by 8 I was doing my own laundry and doing chores for the neighbor to earn money.
Hot-Fact-3250@reddit
A can of coke pulled out of the freezer and wrapped in aluminum foil on the rare field trip days I wasn’t sick.
On regular school days, I always chose chocolate milk.
Objective-Dream-904@reddit

Sugar.
Tylerdurden389@reddit
Yoo-hoo for sure. Used to drink one every day for however many years. Then stopped drinking them entirely for over a decade, decided to try one and wondered why it tasted like shit. My buddy goes " Cuz its not chocolate milk, its chocolate DRINK". I looked at the label and saw he was right.
I threw it away and haven't had one since lol.

A thermos with unsweetened iced tea, milk or water. TF? We didn't have yoohoo or squeezit money.🤣
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
Most days my grandma would fill my thermos with kool-aid, but every now and then I'd get sent with a capri sun, ecto cooler, or squeez-it/kool-aid burst.
