Lutetia03@reddit
They keep showing gorgeous concepts and then made 5 more SUVs.
hardinho@reddit
this is the way
Mimical@reddit
Turns out, Mazda loves money and the CX-5/50 are basically printing it for them.
Every brand kinda has the same M.O.
Sell SUVs so you can build a sports car.
dirty_birdy@reddit
That’s what people buy.
Quatro_Leches@reddit
they want the loud minority to talk about their brand without actually making products for them
Lutetia03@reddit
I know and hey I love my aunt's CX-50 Turbo. But I just wanted to point out Mazda is fucking with us on the sports car stuff.
Life_Menu_4094@reddit
Arguably, we're fucking with them by responding so well to the sports cars but never actually buying them.
ask-design-reddit@reddit
The guy you responded to literally has a Golf R. Of course they complain to the sky and then go out to get a hatchback from another brand
Makeitquick666@reddit
tbf those prices make them unjustifiable as a toy, and they by design are not as practical as a crossover
PlatinumElement@reddit
I do my part by only buying sports cars, even new sometimes.
dirty_birdy@reddit
Unfortunately, no one buys them. I say this as a sports car enthusiast and soon to be MX-5 owner.
Lutetia03@reddit
Ehh they can start out by doing a Mazdaspeed3 again. The GTI/R/Si etc are selling fairly well. The problem is they keep teasing a boutique sports car nobody will buy and they won't make.
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
But then don’t make the concept. Props to companies like Hyundai that at least make awesome concepts of cars they intend to build
dont-YOLO-ragequit@reddit
Concepts are usually just to show and trademark design languages.
They can unveil a Mazda coupe and later tune the design for luxury, crossover, compact or wagon as they choose.
Revenge_of_Recyclops@reddit
“The new rotary….SUV by Mazda. The RCX-30.”
Lutetia03@reddit
Coming soon, the 3 row version of that the RCX-70.
SSLByron@reddit
RX-8 1/2
Malbjey@reddit
Bruh I REALLY want the next RX car to be in the same performance/price category as the RX-8.
I feel like Mazda is gonna shoot for the moon with the next RX car. The RX-8 was affordable and the next RX car probably won't be for us plebs. I also hope it's a 2+2 like the RX-8 for people who only have the $$$/space for one car. And I really don't care if it's not as fast as the modern Supra/Mustang/etc. Just make it balance and fun to drive. Mazda never really chased big 0-60 performance anyway.
These are mostly selfish reasons but I don't care.
RaithMoracus@reddit
It looks like the RX8 would be a $45k car when sold today, adjusting for inflation btw.
Not that that’s a terrible price, but… for a lot of us that is past the point of being affordable.
shadysnorlax@reddit
I agree that cars, and everything else, have gotten really expensive, but isn't the average price of a purchased new car 40 to 50k right now? So if you can't afford 45k for a new car, you probably just shouldn't be buying new halo sports cars anyways. Luckily the gr86 is cheaper anyways so there's options.
RaithMoracus@reddit
While any upcoming RX model would almost certainly be a halo car, the RX-8 I don’t believe fit that category, as it was priced similarly to the Miata, which is still a $30k car today.
mszkoda@reddit
RX-8UV (The 8 kind of looks like an S in SUV haha get it #Marketing) Plug-In Hybrid
mysterysticks@reddit
RX-7 is there for the taking too. The 7 means 7 seater!
Wiggles114@reddit
Rotary powered sports van do it Mazda
PaulClarkLoadletter@reddit
Let’s see… concept vehicle… fastback roofline… four doors… not an SUV… ah… not coming to the US.
86Austin@reddit
think bigger, friend. There's still time for it to be revealed as a Crossover.
Intro24@reddit
Think even bigger, body-on-frame 4WD Miata
PaulClarkLoadletter@reddit
I mean this could be a course correction for the CX-70. But I dream.
Smokey_the_beer@reddit
Welcoming the mazda CX5000 a sport crossover with a twin wankel
beever-fever@reddit
Gimme 4 doors and the twin turbo straight six.
Yummy_Hershey@reddit
I’ve always said that if Mazda put the CX-70/90 motor in a sports sedan, it would be my next car. I genuinely have 0 hope that they would ever do this, but it’s so something I’m still hoping for.
beever-fever@reddit
I have money, give me something to buy Mazda! Not too much money though...
armchairracer@reddit
Also rwd and a manual, please.
SlayerSEclipse@reddit
Car enthusiasts salivating at the chance to buy it used
joeislandstranded@reddit
I’d buy one NEW if it were RWD, MT, and TT-I6!
Intel_Oil@reddit
For 85k?
joeislandstranded@reddit
Nah. None of those things = $85k. Unless, it can outperform a contemporary Mustang GT in all the performance metrics
Intel_Oil@reddit
If you think a Mazda Sportscar with I6, RWD Plattform, Manual Trans and the related tech won't hit a 85k pricetag, you're outdated. A Golf R is 65k OotD.
joeislandstranded@reddit
That’s a lot for a VW that can’t even be had with a MT anymore! They sure were cheaper when I was checking them out last year.
When my quasi-German car (TourX) started giving me trouble at a mere 60k miles, I decided that another German car just isn’t worth the hassle and huge devaluation associated with it.
JiveXP@reddit
M(azda)3
colonial_dan@reddit
If they’re offering this, it will be the first new car I buy.
tofulo@reddit
We adding wagon in brown to the mix?
beever-fever@reddit
I'd buy a sedan in that tan color Mazda has.
armchairracer@reddit
I know that's the meme, but a lift back is actually my preference for style+utility, and I've never understood a preference for brown, but something not in grey scale would be nice.
Sir_Topham_Kek@reddit
Manuélle
mrbubbles2@reddit
You spelled rotary wrong
UkonFujiwara@reddit
Six rotor.
digistil@reddit
Rotary-V12-powered shooting brake, used from the factory, please.
firewoodrack@reddit
Manuel, diesel, rotary, shooting brake, brown Miata used from the factory
Gonnaragretthis@reddit
That’s also an AWD wagon
WigginIII@reddit
400hp, 2200lbs, $30k
Astramael@reddit
It has to be AWD for utility and simultaneously RWD only for the purist.
JiveXP@reddit
AWD has to add zero weight too. It must simultaneously be as light as a Miata with the utility of a 4Runner
MorickRift@reddit
Actually no kidding, having both a Miata and a 4Runner TRD is my dream garage (I'm in Canada so Miata for summer and 4Runner for ripping through snowbanks in the winter and shopping trips).
BWFTW@reddit
It must also have an anti gravity generator to create negative weight. And even then my 1990 miata with 500,000 km is still lighter so this new car is a POS.
Mathblasta@reddit
https://www.jalopnik.com/at-8-500-is-this-1993-mazda-miata-off-roader-a-good-d-1849122686/
I got u fam
Super_cooper001@reddit
It also needs like 800 horsepower and can’t weigh more than 2000 pounds
BWFTW@reddit
800 horsepower? That's so little power you are a danger to other drivers on the road. Try 1500 hp and 1500 pounds of weight.
Super_cooper001@reddit
Ah the 1:1 power to weight ratio? Seems safe
BWFTW@reddit
How else will you be able to merge on the highway?
Cessnaporsche01@reddit
Look, I just want a new car that's a better price for performance option than a C5 Corvette, and just as easy to work on. Is that too much to ask!!?
NorCalAthlete@reddit
You joke but the BMW M3/4 Xdrive can toggle that. RWD or AWD.
Astramael@reddit
Yea, that’s cool, but you still need to have the AWD machinery in the car. The perfect enthusiast machine would remove the weight and complexity of the AWD system when it wasn’t in use!
BWFTW@reddit
Hot swap awd system lmao.
ComfortablePlenty513@reddit
Lots of todays "AWD" cars are only AWD when it skids, for most of the driving time it's RWD or FWD bias.
ControlWeekly7900@reddit
Jesus, I see what you have done for other people, and I want that for me.
popsicle_of_meat@reddit
I looked it up, there is no such engine in production. They tried a few times in the past, but the compression ratio just isn't there, and even with forced induction it still never made it past prototypes. That was a fun little rabbit trail.
lunarc@reddit
Manuel, he’s always the answer. So is manual.
phirebird@reddit
Jesus is always the answer. He's my transmission guy and performs miracles.
Lymphohistiocytosis@reddit
Anything but a diesel from Mazda...
Jlx_27@reddit
4 doors, not a shooting brake.
GrynaiTaip@reddit
I think China has a patent on brand new used cars.
RevvedUpLikeADeuce09@reddit
Pretty much 99.9 percent of concepts these days are intended to be electric.
cangath@reddit
Mazda would make that as a concept. But that’s never sell it to you
Nicktyelor@reddit
I swear to god, if this is another coupe/sedan unnecessarily jacked up to CUV height... PLEASE STOP.
Averageinternetdoge@reddit
Crashes thru your door
"Heeeeere's CUV!"
leedle1234@reddit
It just being jacked to CUV height is fine honestly, because there is always room for them to then release a sporty version without the lift or people can do it aftermarket, eg Audi All-Road models.
The issue is if they built it like a crossover with huge belt lines like the new Toyota crown, then there's no redeeming it. Proportions are unfixable.
elswede@reddit
The crown is a bizarre vehicle; it looks like it should have a hatch but it's a traditional trunk. It looks like it's high up, but it's not actually lifted. Instead of going "let's make something with the looks of a sedan and the practicality of a hatchback with high ground clearance", they went with "let's make something with the looks of a hatchback with high ground clearance and the practicality of a sedan "
virus_apparatus@reddit
Suicide doors to make it a 4door.
Typical_headzille@reddit
Gimme a Mazda 6 with an inline 6 for fucks sake!!!!!!!!!!!!
Effective_Ad9263@reddit
Mazda is always making a rx7 style concept coupe, which will usually preview design elements that’ll be seen on cars that aren’t a new rx7.
itsthebrownman@reddit
Did we ever get any news on the 6 coming back with their new inline 6?
Dapman02@reddit
Last I heard it was scrapped due to poor sedan sales.
elswede@reddit
I mean, they could make a sedan analog to the cx60, as effectively a replacement for both the 3 and 6. Have a na 4 cylinder rwd to try to appeal to existing mazda 3 owners, while the tt6 awd top trim would be a "premium" offering to try to undercut a 3 series
Tuxedo_Muffin@reddit
Why didn't they raise it 2 inches, put plastic fender cladding on, and call it a "cross"?
Oh, because Subaru exists already... dang.
Gorgenapper@reddit
Nobody at all:
Subaru: Let's put massive plastic cladding on the WRX, and use AI to come up with a rear bumper
itsthebrownman@reddit
Was hoping for an estate version.. but guess that’s too niche

Nope! 😀
Razathorn@reddit
The theme appears to be blind spots.
Pseudonym_741@reddit
No kidding. The current 3 hatchback looks like it has miserable rear quarter visibility.
Intel_Oil@reddit
I'm still trying to figure out what ya'll trying to see in the rear quarter.
Modern Cars have blindspot everything, crossing sensing nannys and whatnot.
And i'm parallelparking in cities built in 1191
Pseudonym_741@reddit
I don't trust a computer over my own eyes.
Also, it's pretty much a reflex for me to check the blind spot every time I change lanes, I can't help it.
Acaleus_Thorne@reddit
Having cross-shopped it with other hatchbacks and the new Prius, it's actually not as bad as it looks. It had better vision than the Prius by a mile, and with properly adjusted mirrors it's not an issue.
chipsnapper@reddit
Looks even worse than the Supra…
Nzash@reddit
They also showed us that inline 6 sedan and nothing came off it, does anyone still care about concepts?
aprtur@reddit
Looks like the next evolution of the Mazda 3, and the timing is right as the current car is 7 model years old (hard to believe!). I'll be looking forward to seeing what this looks like - the last concept was pretty darn close to production appearance, all things considered.
lurpeli@reddit
Does anyone believe in Mazda concepts? The Vision concept debuted what... 14 years ago now?
redditproha@reddit
Why doesn’t Mazda have a performance brand? Their designs are some of the best on the road, exterior and interior.
jonnyrocket@reddit

Looks like they discontinued MazdaSpeed. But I mean full on seperate lines like Lexus, Genesis, Polestar, etc

Mazda loves teasing concepts.
heisgone@reddit
Teasing a concept car is so weird. It's basically a teasing of a teasing.

Looking at the dlo mind as well get rid of it entirely?

I would love if the next gen Mazda 3 morphed into an Audi A5 Sportback or BMW 4 series Grand Coupe thing.
Hodgsom13@reddit
I have a A5 B9.5 and would 1000% move over to Mazda if this were the case. I’ve had 3 Mazdas and LOVED them. Only switched because I wanted a sedan that wasn’t a mazda3
