Thompson Grip on a M4?

Does anyone know any context behind this? how did they mount it to the Pic rails on the handguard, is it original or a commercial product?
QuiglyDwnUnda@reddit
Commercial product. Blackwood Trading Company still sells an mlok version and I’m sure others do as well. You can see the QD attachment they used to mount it sticking out between the VFG and the right side rail cover.
HardDriveBoi@reddit
As a heads up, I believe Blackwood Trading Company has become a scam; they take money but don't deliver orders anymore based on what I have seen on r/gundeals and r/guns
Mrmnbeowolve@reddit
They took 8 months to deliver on one order for me, the lead times were a fucking dog ass lie.
QuiglyDwnUnda@reddit
That’s a shame, their stuff was a bit overpriced but still really cool.
Vic_the_Dick@reddit
This is more likely a field mod that predates commercial offerings using an old A.R.M.S. #17 QD mount and miscellaneous hardware, zoom in and you’ll see the lever for the mount.

Yeah, I can see it now. the grip isnt fully flush with the bottom rail

If I recall correctly this guy was part of the cloner world of rifles and did this as a gag to make it clone correct.
Polar_Bear500@reddit
Oh lord
Evil_Creamsicle@reddit
I used to know a dude who made one of these. It was more comfortable than you'd think

Retreat from Afghanistan, i rember that photo from news.

I would guess around 2012 in Panjway, Afghanistan. Probably not a regular infantry soldier, but some kind of support role (Intel, forward observer, etc.). The rules for those attached to regular formations were a lot less strict, so there were some bizarre gear setups.
CT2145Trapper@reddit (OP)
Idk. the uniform looks like OEF-CP, and wasnt that only issued to line units before OCP was adopted?
mindyabisnuss@reddit
I think you're technically correct. In my case RFI had that for everyone in the deploying brigade. Integrated intel units were part of "line" units and could get away with some extras as well
Fantablack183@reddit
That's gotta be the most based general infantry rifle set up I've seen, aswell as Mister Lord's fit here going insanely hard. He looks like the MW2 cover art guy
CT2145Trapper@reddit (OP)
Yeah, i found it cool he had the 2ID patch on his helmet, never seen that done before
Key-Illustrator-5562@reddit
4th Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. The unit served twice in Iraq and once in Afghanistan between 2007 and prior to its deactivation in 2014.

Context:
SPC Lord: Hey Sarge, can I bring my own foregrip for my M4?
Staff Sausage: Whatever, man, just don't get weird with it
SPC Lord:
Billybob_Bojangles2@reddit
Holy shit, that guy's whole gear is peak cool
226_Walker@reddit
Not to mention his surname is Lord.
CHEDDAREXPLOSION@reddit
With his mask it really reminds me of the soldier on the cover of the original Modern Warfare 2. Insanely cool

Random QD mount found in a parts bin, Thompson grip found in a parts bin, A few wood screws and a bored soldier.
MuddlinThrough@reddit
Hey, I would if I could!
ODA564@reddit
Diamondback Industries makes such )among other companies). Google "Thompson style foregrip AR-15".
So private purchase.
ExPatWharfRat@reddit
All you would really need is a compatible hole to run that long screw into. Any pic-mounted accessory that provides a hole which aligns with that base screw would do it.
Sophie_MacGovern@reddit
Looks cut down in the back?
CT2145Trapper@reddit (OP)
thats most likely either the camera angle or a modification done in order to make it fit on the M4 KAC RIS
