Alright. Who else noticed this in Tron: Ares?

More screenshots, I want discovery the main font and the credit font.

trixiepm@reddit
I also noticed "sudo systemctl" at some part. I'm glad to see them using real-life code/commands instead of just fake random words.
JustFinishedBSG@reddit
Life pro tip: on Solaris systems killall does actually kill all…
Zealousideal_Garlic8@reddit
Havnt noticed, gave up on the movie after 20 minutes
KingSideCastle13@reddit
Noticed the blue folders on the arctic base’s computer desktop
ZagorothPhantom@reddit
Yeah, it was a cool thing they added it.
ZagorothPhantom@reddit
The movie is filled with little references, even the song names have references.
Icy_Research8751@reddit
isnt she 17
ScratchHacker69@reddit
Wait… is it out on streaming services already? Or are you watching from (insert some kind of website here)
fryhenryj@reddit
It's a Unix system, I know this! 🦖🦕
MegaVenomous@reddit
I was wondering if this line would show up...
fryhenryj@reddit
They mostly come out at night.
Mostly.
bobj33@reddit
Someone already posted 3 days ago on /r/itsaunixsystem that Tron Ares uses systemd
https://www.reddit.com/r/itsaunixsystem/comments/1o3e5zd/tron_ares_uses_systemd/
technobaboo@reddit
afaik that's a cam so yea not out
Granat1@reddit
There is a progress bar on the bottom.
Dennis_DZ@reddit
Presumably, someone recorded the movie with a camera, uploaded it to some site, OP was watching the recorded movie on that site, and took a screenshot because they thought this part was funny
Granat1@reddit
Could be, sure.
Granat1@reddit
And now I'm being downvoted by agreeing with you, lol.
nj_tech_guy@reddit
to add on to this:
Cam's are widely considered "not out" because they're not official, usually have theater noise and are a mediocre quality at best.
There are some good cams out there, but they're still cams.
When sailing the 7 seas, "Out" = genuine digital release (or leak. but leaks are almost always cams)
KlePu@reddit
idc much about video quality, old enough to have enjoyed Star Wars Ep1 on 1 CD back in the day ;)
But have you ever listened to the sound of those TS or whatever rips? Bah! I'd wait for official any day for that.
technobaboo@reddit
movie theatre sound is hella distorted though at its loudness
skuterpikk@reddit
People doing cam should be given the death penalty. Same with the people who actually watches those videos.
Who the fuck wants to watch a movie with horrible sound and picture quality where everything is either dark, oversaturated, out of focus, and silhouettes of people standing up?
Apprehensive-Video26@reddit
Yep, saw that :-)
fryhenryj@reddit
I totally did I'm surprised there wasn't a kill -9 thrown in there too
Although as the master user or whatever surely sudo is unnecessary? 🤔
ZunoJ@reddit
Only stupid people casually log in as root
bullwinkle8088@reddit
Or disciplined. I one from an era when you learned to not fuck hp the system or you stayed till it was rebuilt. The survivors learned.
ZunoJ@reddit
Yeah, thats like saying you come from an era where nobody wore a seatbelt and since you survived, you will also be safe in the future. Still stupid, just with survivors bias
bullwinkle8088@reddit
If you say so….
The thing is in the real world you would be working for me. Make of that what you will.
ZunoJ@reddit
Just as I said, you are stupid
xenopizza@reddit
Only newbies do it casually, pros do it like they mean it /s
BallingAndDrinking@reddit
Until someone configure the prompt to go against use:
the shell point out he is a user, not a root user.
$and not#.I've yet to see a real argument for not being root if your sudoer can do whatever the fuck he want with sudo. All it does is give you a warm fuzzy feeling of fake safety. It isn't about being able to ssh in with root tho.
hazeyAnimal@reddit
In TRON: Legacy, Flynn it's logged in as root. Hence, using non root with as sudo is officially confirmed to be worse than root
Kurse71@reddit
In Legacy he was logged in as the user "flynn". Remember Sam ran whoami to see who was logged in?
Kurse71@reddit
He is jdillenger, not root, so yes, he needs sudo
fryhenryj@reddit
Clearly needed to
ps aux | grep -i 'athena'
To get the correct process ID
technobaboo@reddit
well given that it failed to kill the process it clearly was julian's incompetence :p
yabadabaddon@reddit
I'm avoiding the this movie at all costs, so I wouldn't have noticed, no.
Vlado_Iks@reddit (OP)
In my opinion, you are not losing anything. As I answered to anothe comment, the movie was flat and boring. Not worth watching again. Glory to previous two movies.
pezezin@reddit
I disagree, I went to watch it with a bunch of office colleagues and we all had a lot of fun. I don't understand all the hate 🤷
Ok_Maybe184@reddit
IMO, Tron movies in general require suspension of disbelief as well as looking past major plot holes. I think Ares was as good as the previous two movies and that’s not saying it was great. I was entertained and loved the soundtrack. I had more fun watching it than the previous two.
pezezin@reddit
A movie where a "particle laser" can transfer matter between the real world and the digital world requires suspension of disbelief? Colour me surprised.
For the record, I work at a real particle accelerator and all of us were either physicists or engineers, so we all know how silly the basic premise is... and still have fun, because we were looking for fun, not hard sci-fi 😄
loquacious@reddit
I once read a writeup and analysis of Star Trek transporters by (I believe) a physicist and/or a maybe a decent SF writer that was quantifying how much energy it would take to actually beam someone to/from low earth orbit and re-assemble them, specifically working with the model and idea that said teleporter did not have to have a receiver/transceiver device or mechanism at the other end and worked from a distance from emitters to some point in free space.
...and it was some absolutely ridiculous amount of energy. I can't remember the exact details but it was something on the order of the entire energy output of more than one Sol or even many, many Sols over it's entire lifespan of the star.
Per person. Once. One way.
Whatever it was it was an totally unfeasible amount of energy. Like we're talking about energy densities so high that they would likely cause a singularity, black hole or "kugelblitz" kind of density, and thus could not be contained or harnessed on a spaceship with any kind of technology.
pezezin@reddit
I don't know about the transporters, but matter replicators are indeed ridiculous. According to the famous E=mc2 formula, a kilogram of matter is equivalent to 9×10^(16) J. The average nuclear reactor produces 1 GW of power, so you would need to run it for a thousand days just to synthesize one kilogram of matter. Granted, Federation startships are powered by matter-antimatter warp cores, but I think there are way more efficient ways to get your hot Earl Grey...
loquacious@reddit
I love TRON, but if I'm honest with myself and my criticism the first movie is a snoozefest and a total slog and also extremely boring.
It's pretty to look at and all, but it's sincerely not very good.
I'm not sure why people are expecting more from the franchise and from Disney itself.
If anything Legacy is a much better movie and way more fun and action packed than the first TRON.
Temujin_123@reddit
In legacy Sam looks at the history of commands and there's an Easter egg in there. Right before going into the grid, Kevin Flynn edited his last will and testament (a text file). I alwyas wondered what was in there (Sam presumably has a copy of it).
JockstrapCummies@reddit
And he used
vias well.Temujin_123@reddit
If he used emacs he wouldn't have had time to build the grid (would've spent all his time customizing emacs).
JockstrapCummies@reddit
Emacs actually had a grid included already, written in Lisp.
Flynn was just being NIH and went ahead to code an inferior one himself.
Tstormn3tw0rk@reddit
Actually, this happened in legacy, too! Encom OS was always riffing off of mac to a degree, so it makes sense that itd be a unix-like system
technobaboo@reddit
in legacy you can see ubuntu kernel modules pass by, so os12 is probably ubuntu based
Kurse71@reddit
Ubuntu kernel modules? Wtf lol
bitspace@reddit
Joke's on you. There is not going to be any os12.
technobaboo@reddit
encom os12
adoodle83@reddit
Imo it’s an homage to real history of how lots of OSs are *Nix based, mainly for the toolchain and application support provided by the GPL foundation. Most people don’t want to invent a process manager, or shell, or any of the hundreds of applications needed for basic system functionality.
psaux_grep@reddit
I just watched the OG for the first time yesterday 🙈
zynasis@reddit
Yep. Noticed this too on a rewatch. Did the whole kill -9 on some proc
Kurse71@reddit
It also used systemd, he used systemctl to reboot the laser
ManuaL46@reddit
At the end I also noticed
sudo systemctl restart *****that means they were not just using Linux but also systemd.Take that systemd haters.
SnappGamez@reddit
Going to see it next Wednesday.
Anonymo@reddit
People are actually watching the new TRON movie?
Vlado_Iks@reddit (OP)
I just wanted to see what Disney messed up again. Actually, it wasn't as bad as I feared, but it wasn't also good. For me, boring movie with flat, empty and too straight story. Characters feel like randomly spawned and flat too.
Completely unused potencial. 4/10 - 5/10 for me. Not worth to watch again.
Anonymo@reddit
I would tell from the trailer it was going to be bad. Jared Leto just confirmed it though.
JockstrapCummies@reddit
Jared Leto (judging purely from his acting) isn't the problem in this. He actually did a good job as his character.
The problem is in the very lacklustre script.
CorbyTheSkullie@reddit
Went to see it in the theater, die hard tron fan, been waiting since legacy came out.
Music wasn’t half bad, just disappointed with the plot, but its not disney’s fault as the actors from legacy didn’t wanna return
regeya@reddit
Yeah...I'm gonna have to wait for that one to hit streaming services. I was a kid when the first one came out and honestly...meh. Legacy is a lovely long-form Daft Punk music video but imho would make more sense if the world was more like the Matrix i.e. the programs are AIs operating within the rules of a virtual world built for the user. Instead programs have sentience and need to do things like eat.
archontwo@reddit
Dunno. Didn't watch it. Don't intend to.
Not gonna waste time or money on a 'sequel' that has neither TRON nor any of the protagonists at the end of the last TRON movie in it.
JockstrapCummies@reddit
They really missed an opportunity there. Tron could've appeared when Dillinger/Ares hacked into Encom's server farm. He's purpose-built as its chief security program.
nimrag_is_coming@reddit
That would suggest that people actually saw Tron: Ares
FlorpCorp@reddit
Are you watching a cam?
Sweet-Safety-1486@reddit
In Tron: Legacy, Cillian Murphy's character was using Emacs. He even had hanoi mode running.
Queasy-Meeting-8046@reddit
I did 😁
pibarnas@reddit
What terminal font is this?
Gugalcrom123@reddit
Source Code Pro. It's free.
pibarnas@reddit
Thanks
6SixTy@reddit
Could be Source Code Pro. i (india) and j (juliet) being distinguished like that with the $ symbol not having the line going through it completely is fairly rare for monospace font.
DarthZiplock@reddit
I’m amazed they even bothered to research that level of plausibility given the entire movie felt like its prime directive was to not cost a single dollar more than absolutely necessary.
swn999@reddit
Rm -RF /Tron_Ares
arthursucks@reddit
Time to reinstall eDEX.
ZorakOfThatMagnitude@reddit
I saw a systemctl in another shot as well.
AcceptableWbuh@reddit
sudo kill 🔥🔥🔥🔥✍️✍️✍️
Aggressive_Job_1031@reddit
dont run that on a robot
technobaboo@reddit
i wrote a whole post on r/tron about all of it :p
Vlado_Iks@reddit (OP)
Going there just to upvote it.

Pfff.. no 'doas'. Amateurs.. :)
