I Miss Waiting Room Magazines

Sitting in the doctors office and the only choice is some lame reality TV or my phone. I miss the glossy magazines, the trashy columns, the reader mail. I just miss it. That's all.

I haven’t touched those dirty magazines since being a child. I never understood why any adult would want to touch a thing other sick people touched.
All my medical practitioners have magazines or books to read.

Me too - I actually am still a subscriber to a few print magazines and I absolutely love getting them in the mail. It’s such a nice treat for it not to be all bills occasionally
Blackbird136@reddit
Can I ask which ones you get? I’ve been recently considering this myself.
Especially considering at the drugstore ONE magazine is like $8 but a year’s subscription is $20-$30. 🤪

The Sun FTW!

I get Harper’s — it’s great!
tabularasa65@reddit
Yes Harper’s!
jeng52@reddit
Not OP, but I get the New Yorker, Real Simple, Atlantic, Coastal Living, and Kiplinger
ElizardbethBennet@reddit
Yeah I have been getting Cook’s Country, but they just announced they are shutting down and will start sending cook’s illustrated instead which is a bummer. I also get vogue and Elle for funsies

Goofus is cool

Only time I ever read ‘cat fancy’ magazines!

My gyno has them. Granted, they are several different issues of the same magazine or two, but how many am I going to read anyway?
Went to a clinic several years ago that just had bibles sitting around. 🙄
ONROSREPUS@reddit
The gym my wife and I go to still has the local paper in the waiting area.
JudgeJuryEx78@reddit
I love when hotels have a free newspaper. A local paper and a USA today...or in nicer hotels a free Wall Street Journal.i live sitting there with my WSJ feeling fancy.

I was traveling a couple months ago and browsed the magazines in one of those snack/book stores and I could not believe how THIN magazines are these days. Even the slag rags like US and Star were half their usual size. It amazed me.
Legitimate-Produce-1@reddit
I miss the graffiti that came along with them
smooth_grooves@reddit
You can help keep magazines alive by subscribing to them. Then, just bring a latest issue with you to the doctor's office to have that experience again.
DStew713@reddit
My mother still has a subscription to People Magazine.
FoppyDidNothingWrong@reddit
Reading the current incarnation of our favorite magazines is a reminder why we migrated to the internet.
Verbull710@reddit
There's probably an app that will let you flip through your phone as if it were a magazine
peekaboooobakeep@reddit
Libby app for libraries. They let me borrow all the magazines. But it's not the same feeling.

My dentist has all the good mags, and it’s a joy.
Intstnlfortitude@reddit
I learned so much about cars from the magazines in my doctors office! Autoguide, motor trend car and driver he had em all lol
violetstrainj@reddit
I’ve had to go to a lot of doctors in the last year, and I always bring a book. My phone does not get good reception in the inner sanctum of the basement of the hospital.
supergooduser@reddit
Kind of related... a podcast that debunks conspiracy theories I listen to made a good point... back in the day crazies had to write letters to the editor and be bold enough to print their name and address.
And honestly, I genuinely respect THAT level of crazy.
paulster2626@reddit
My dentist had The Far Side which was awesome. He also had Herman which was terrible.
amindfulloffire@reddit
My doctor has them.
elektrik_noise@reddit
Omg old school doctor's offices. Parade and what was the name of the one for kids?? It's escaping me but they were everywhere.
DeliciousMoments@reddit
Mmmm the fold-out perfume samples.
Indubitalist@reddit
Seems like Covid obliterated waiting room magazines. Everything went away, some of it never came back. I was getting new tires a few weeks ago and looking forward to an hour of reading car magazines and there wasn’t a single thing to read in there.
PhoneJazz@reddit
I am still a magazine devotee and will literally bring my own magazines TO the waiting room to read. I keep a stash in my car.
mustachiomegazord@reddit
Thought the same at the doctor recently. It was the only time I ever looked at magazines and they were always so interesting
misterlakatos@reddit
My dentist still has them.
Mattimvs@reddit
My phone kicks a 20 year-old readers digests ass every time
Illustrious-Lead-960@reddit
But they were always eight years out of date and hardly ever got replaced.
