Thank you all for your expertise. This will be the first car I've bought in 12 years.

Have you thought about an EV? You're in a relatively mild climate and don't seem to be doing huge road trips, so it could be worth considering. They have steep depreciation and no major parts to wear down, so a certified pre-owned model can be a great buy. In your budget you explore something like a BMW iX, Mercedes EQE, Porsche Macan, or Cadillac Vistiq all with low miles.
If you're fixed on gas, the X5 has by far the best feeling interior of the options you've listed. The GV70 interior can be kind of cramped compared to the others, I'd make sure it has the space you're looking for before diving in.

Why not just ask here? ????
btw toyota reliability is no joke. my old corolla just refused to die, no matter what i put it through.

Location: Slovenia, European Union
Price range: 12,000-18.000 €
Lease or Buy: Buy
New or used: Used
Type of vehicle: MPV, Berlingo style
Must haves: Easy to make a temporary micro-camper, cruise control :)
Desired transmission Manual
Intended use: Daily driver (don't need it for commuting, just for going to the shops, holiday trips, festivals etc.
Vehicles you've already considered: Ford Tourneo Courier (2023-), Renault Kangoo (2022-), Citroen Berlingo/Peugeot Rifter/Opel Combo/Toyota ProAce City Verso (2018-), Fiat Doblo (2018-2022, with the 1.6 JTDM engine), Dacia Dokker, Dacia Jogger, VW Caddy/Ford Tourneo Connect
Is this your 1st vehicle: No
Do you need a Warranty: Wouldn't mind, not necessary
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: No
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No
Additional Notes: Basically feel like there are very few options that aren't either unreliable (Stellantis 1.2 Puretech or 1.5 BlueHDI have big reliability issues), overpriced (VW Caddy/Ford Tourneo Connect, apparently expensive to maintain), very rare (Renault Kangoo, Dacia Dokker, Fiat Doblo pre-Stellantis in passenger configuration). Currently looking at a Ford Tourneo Courier, there are a few used ones, 2024 year with around 30-40.000 km for 17,900€, the 1.0 EcoBoost should now be with a timing chain so more reliable the wet-belt EcoBoosts. It has all I think I need, I'm just apprehensive about the engie still.
Wolfo93@reddit
1.5 HDI has problems? I thought they fixed it? Tbh i would go for Renault, cheap parts, ridiculous space inside
auerz@reddit
Before 2023ish, the 7mm timing chain would snap, destroying the engine. 8mm chains are installed after 2023, and on recalls in some areas.
Wolfo93@reddit
WHat about Dacia, they have official merch to turn their cars into light campers like beds, exterior tents that connect into the boot, that type of stuff
auerz@reddit
Yeah I really like the Jogger, but you dont get a lot of headroom if you use it as a camper. But yeah, real good value, and the engine has a good reputation. I wouldn't buy the official stuff, camping boxes by Dacia and other manufacturers are 1500€ or so, my dad and I can get plywood from a hardware store for a lot less.
Their MPV is the Dokker, which they stopped selling around here in 2019ish. Also the passenger version is not so common, and the ones you get are often extremely barebones - like no cruise control barebones.
Wolfo93@reddit
Well Duster with LPG would be really cheap to run too
auerz@reddit
Yeah but we want something bigger, I doubt the Duster has more space than the Jogger.

I currently have a 2022 Audi RS6. It's still my idea of the ultimate one-car-garage, but I'm leaning more and more towards a 2-car solution. A more reasonable & economical daily driver, and a fun car that would likely be stored each winter.
Location: Canada
Price range: Combined between the 2 vehicles, Max $140K-$150K Canadian
Lease or Buy: Buy
New or used: Used
Type of vehicle: 2 vehicles, 1 year-round daily-driver, one fun car. I'm generally not an SUV guy, but I like certain ones like the new Defender. Maybe another more reasonable wagon, and a sports car.
Must haves: Daily driver needs to be awd/4wd for Canadian winter, prefer it to have Android Auto and a decent sound system, comfortable, decent size for me to put stuff in. Fun car would be great to be manual RWD. Not a Miata, I'm 6'3 and don't fit comfortably.
Desired transmission Auto for the daily, manual for the fun car.
Intended use: Daily driver & fun car.
Vehicles you've already considered: Land Rover Defender, Porsche Boxster S
Is this your 1st vehicle: No
Do you need a Warranty: For the daily, possibly, depending on the car and expected reliability. For the fun car, no.
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: I generally don't, but I'm not afraid of it.
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No
Additional Notes: I love my RS6, but I've had it for 3.5 years and it's is off warranty in 6 months. Selling it or trading it in before then would yield max money. A more comfortable daily would also make my wife happier.
niftyjack@reddit
This is a fun one. I grew up in Minnesota and live in Chicago now so the practical car/summer car split is familiar territory.
For the practical car, sticking with a wagon makes things tough but not impossible. Check out the Volvo V60 Cross Country, which has plenty of space but isn’t too big for Toronto parking. CPO options have great value, the Volvo infotainment system is based on Android so it has great Google integration, and they’re comfortable cars that I’m sure your wife will appreciate if she’s used to an RS6.
Personally I would put more budget into the fun car since the premium compact crossover/sedan market is so similar between all the models, and for something special your loonie will go further in a less-saturated segment. A Boxster is a lovely option, but if you’re looking at the 718s the four cylinder engines they come with don’t have the excitement or drama of a six. I’d go for a BMW Z4 with the rare manual option. They sound and look great, and most likely will be a future classic if you keep it long term.
The V60 and Z4 together are a smidge over budget, but it pays to play. You could slip into budget with an XC60 instead of a V60, the same car with a different shape.
Pahlevun@reddit
I mean if you want to stay in the Audi family, any other non-RS Audi wagon like an A4/A6 allroad, or an A7 liftback/sportback whatever you wanna call it, or a Q5, would fit the bill here.
The second car can be literally whatever you like I'm not gonna lie here like, go on any car search website and sort by RWD and manual and take your pick. I'd probably take a manual 370Z because I like the 300+ HP V6 and cheap parts.
If we were in the USA I'd say get a Corvette. But we're in Canada so I guess try a manual V8 Camaro or Mustang.
And for the daily, if you don't want to stay Audi, I'd look at a BMW X3, whether 30i or M40i is up to you. Or I guess the newer ones are called M50. But point being 4 cyl vs 6 cyl is up to you.
Cool_Sweet3341@reddit
Since it's Canada please check parts availability and if your mechanic hopefully not the dealer will work on it not too far. Other thing is insurance it might be more than the car payment. I picked stuff that has already depreciated holds value although probably won't go up much. I like the Genesis GV-70 something. They have a big and little one. Apparently south Korea is coming out with the best stuff these days. Obviously a couple years old preferably a rental you will save half like I did with my Mazda. Any of the Mazda's SUV. The 2013 to 21 Rav 4 reliable and good in the winter it does beep at you when you droft in the snow. The older Lexus GX 470 the one that is basically a Toyota land cruiser from the 90's with a nice stereo. Upgrade the head unit with an Android one should be easy and take less than a day. Low miles older 98-2005 Cherokee before they sucked. Saw a newish SRT-8 in for it's 3rd cam swap before a 180K the mechanic didn't want to have to tell him.
By the way you will fit in a Gen I Miata a friend had one drove it in the winter in North Dakota and our roommate was a strong man like did the competitions he fit just saying.
Fun car: Dodge Challenger with the Gen 3 Hemi that parts important the displacement on demand variable valve timing is a no go. They don't lose there value and for fun make your own hellcat with the 5.8. C6 (generation 6) Corvette but the C5,C6,7 Z06 are all pretty cheap freaking fast and are way better performing than people have the ability or tolerance for. 450hp Viper I drove is so fast you have to have your head back. 2011-2017 with the LS7. Don't be fooled by all the big numbers it. Handling is great you can fix it with a hammer people have added superchargers no upgrade and they go 200,000 miles. RX-8 with an LS was the most fun car to drive everyone drove it like they stole it and few were serviced properly so cheap to get one with a blown engine. The swap isn't that cheap but way under your budget same goes with the 911's and Cayman's. All great fun cars too but be careful with there reliability and service records. The Engines will blow and too many people didn't take care of them and drove them hard. RX-7, Supra, Honda S2000 all day long probably go up in value. Insurance mechanic consumer reports from the library. Do your research also remember there's a difference between being able to buy something and affording it.

Lease or Buy: buy
New or used: new (2025)
Type of vehicle: (Truck, Car, Sports Car, Sedan, Crossover, SUV, Racecar, Luxury etc.) sedan or SUV
Must haves: (4x4, AWD, Fuel efficient, Navigation, Turbo, V8, V6, Trunk space, Smooth ride, Leather etc.) None, as long as it’s a reliable vehicle
Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): automatic
Intended use: (Daily Driver, Family Car, Weekend Car, Track Toy, Project Car, Work Truck, Off-roading etc.) daily driver
Vehicles you've already considered: none really, not a car guy myself so curious what people who know more think
Is this your 1st vehicle: no, prior vehicle is a 2014 Nissan Sentra. Has been very reliable but it’s over 160k miles and starting to need constant maintenance
Do you need a Warranty: no, aside from basic manufacturer warranty
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: (fluids, alternator, battery, brake pads etc) yes
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: (engine and transmission, timing belt/chains, body work, suspension etc ) no
Additional Notes: looking for a new car in the 20-30k range (lower is better). Never bought a new car, current vehicle is a 2014 Nissan Sentra which has done well but at over 160k miles it’s showing its age. Bought it used in cash about 8 years ago but it’s time for a new vehicle. I’m not too picky with cars, I mostly want something affordable that I can get a good APR on and that is very reliable (will last me years without needing more than basic maintenance). I’ve heard newer Nissans aren’t so great so I’m curious what is the best out there in terms of bang for buck and reliability. Thanks in advance!
niftyjack@reddit
A used car, even certified pre-owned, always carries some level of risk compared to a new car so I understand your preference. With the price of new cars your budget can be a little tight, but there are still good options for you, especially in the compact sedan category.
For lowest cost of owner ship a Corolla Hybrid like this would be great. They’re in the middle of your budget, get 45-50 mpg all day, and they’re proven to last a long time. A bonus of hybrids for long-term ownership is the electrification aspect takes a lot of wear and tear off traditional gas car needs (brakes last forever, transmissions are much simpler, etc) so total cost of ownership over the life of the car is much lower.
People on the internet complain about Nissans’ reliability because of some transmission stuff, but the ones now are the same as in your current Sentra so if you haven’t had issues so far then it shouldn’t put you off the new ones. The latest gen like this has more features and a nicer interior than the Corolla, but you’ll get 30 mpg in traffic instead of 50. If you drive 12k miles per year and gas is $3/gal that’s an extra $480/year in gas, which isn’t that bad.
The Honda Civic, Mazda 3, and Hyundai Elantra are also around but I don’t think they’d be great for you—the Civic is too expensive for what it offers (especially the Hybrid) and the Mazda is getting old so the tech isn’t great, especially if you’re looking long-term. The Elantra doesn’t have as good of features as the Sentra at the same price for what they actually sell for and the hybrid version doesn’t have proven long-term reliability yet. Basically if you want the lowest cost of ownership check out the Corolla, if you’d like to focus on features and creature comforts check out the Sentra.
clearcoat_ben@reddit
I would look at a CPO from Honda, Mazda, or Toyota.
Mazda's CPO program provides a substantial discount over new, and a manufacturer warranty up to 100k miles or 7 years from first sale, whichever comes first.
Civic, Accord, CRV, Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Mazda 3, etc. will all fit your specs, just depends on how much room you want, and if you want hybrid or not.
Assuming you do a lot of stop/ go in ATL, a hybrid from Honda or Toyota would probably save you some gas.

FYI: limousine means two different things in German vs English. The proper translation for the German limousine that you're looking for is a "sedan". This is a limousine in English.
Out of those you listed, the CX-5 is easily the best if you ask me. But I do understand it can be a bit tricky to find a decently priced one where you are. I'd pay attention to the CR-V next, then the RAV4. Simply because the RAV4 is a bit... too much for what you are asking if that makes sense, though it is a good option.
Stepping down from SUVs, may I interest you in something like an A4 Avant? Lots of space inside, comfortable ride, looks good, decent specs. Depending on the exact model and year, you can find one within your budget that comes with a wet clutch DSG (or maybe they all are wet, I'm not entirely sure), which is pretty nice. As long as you stay away from the latest generation with the mild hybrid systems, the TFSI and TDI engines are quite efficient and decently reliable as long as you can see the service records with your own eyes and verify that they've been handled correctly. Won't be as low maintenance as the Japanese SUVs you listed up there, but I still think it's a decent choice worth considering.
Mayfloow@reddit
Good to know :D
Yes I read everywhere that the CX-5 is one of the best choices for me, very sad then that there seems to be no good deal in Austria. In the meantime I also looked at some Nissan Qashqais, they currently have some decent deals with low mileage.
The Audi would be super nice (always loved the look of Audis) but here they seem really expensive + the high HP also means high tax for insurances in Austria I think. I haven‘t looked at station cars (hopefully the correct translation) yet since my wife and me don‘t like the look of them generally.

i would recommend an audi cause their fast, reliable, and have like 20-40 mpg (miles per gallon)
