Does putting a Gen3 M.2 in Gen5 a lot use the PCIe x16 lane? Asus ROG Strix B850-A Gaming WiFi

As question says, I have my Gen4 old m.2 with windows placed in the Gen5 slot that believe uses CPU lane just like the first x16 PCIe for my 4080 uses the CPU.
Should I move the Gen3 to a chipset Gen4 slot? Is my graphics card getting reduced lanes due to the Gen3?
Seen videos it does but also AI bot says PCIe x16 for GPU has its own lane to the CPU and M.2 slots won’t affect performance of what Generation I put into the Gen5 slot.
Again: Asus ROG Strix B850-A Gaming WiFi Mobo 4080 Founders Edition in the top most x16 slot Gen3 NVME in the top Gen5 slot
Thanks!

No, ur motherboard should detect what type of drive it is and automatically adjust for it. The slot itself might be physically Gen 5 but PCIE is backwards compatible and can even step it self down to slower speeds for compatibility.
I dont think almost any of the B850s have the lane sharing issue so u should be fine here to use even a Gen 5 if u wanted

Second question. Is a gen5 drive even worth putting windows on it or better for games?

Not really a u wont see any real difference from gen 3,4,or 5 when it comes to games or downloads. As for the OS u wouldn't see much of a difference either unless u have an SSD with a DRAM which can make ur system feel smoother and more responsive but thats not nessisary either

appreciated. Just watched a jay2cents video that was talking about lower gen m.2 lowering the lanes on a GPU. Was confusing. Thanks for clearing up the 850 and auto adjusting and not taking lanes away.
