My dad was in a high paying field and put a down-payment on a house that appreciated massively in value by the time he was my current age.
I'm not doing poorly and am in a job relevanr to my field that pays okay, but i'm still paying off loans and am nowhere close to the level of success he already achieved at my age, both socially and economically.
Global quality of life is up and continuing to rise. So is life expectancy. Global cases of extreme poverty are down. You live in possibly the safest, most comfortable and most convenient period in history.
Oh okay I will just continue to live in blind ignorance of the fact that automation is taking more jobs every year and no conversations are being had about what is going to happen when the majority of the country inevitably becomes unemployed and unable to pay their bills.
My dad used to throw out that old "I was married with a house at your age", heard him say it to my 19-year-old brother, so I replied "Yeah, and when you were my age you were divorced, broke and living with grandma".
I don't think I'm getting invited round for Christmas dinner this year.
I try not to think about life as a competition nor do I encourage people to compare themselves too frequently with others, but I know many still do all I can say is that you can only win in life and if you given up think yourself a loser I am sorry to say but life is a game you can't lose from the moment you came into this world to the moment you leave you have already won by simply being here.
Agree with this. A lot of people think they are losers because social media and the news set the bar for what is a winner/loser, and they use that yardstick for themselves.
If you are financially self sufficient, and aren't hurting anyone, you are a winner from my perspective.
That fact that it happens to all of us, maybe doesnt show that it isnt our fault, but likely men of previous generations would've been the same. Give yourself some grace.

Is what it is... what else can you really say.

Your dad wasn't browsing a subreddit dedicated to 4chan.

No he was not

Competition for resources and jobs will get worse every year. Each generation will have a tougher time than the one before it.
By the time any kid born today grows up, robots probably took all human jobs already.
It will be tougher to escape the underclass each year. Your children will have less chance than even you.

You really don't understand how a demand driven economy works, do you?

People forget that not a long time ago, 90% of people used to live in extreme poverty, today this number is down to 8%

I know not having kids is, like, the millennial redditoid path, but that's the one thing I can't really judge them about

Being married at 19 is more of a red flag than something to aspire to IMO. How about you try having your own life for a bit.

My parents had 4 kids when they were my age

Ask your dad how to reset a router and how a computer network works.
"Those didn't exist in our time."
Different times.
