Should I upgrade my monitor or GPU first?

Hello, I'm running a 5700x CPU and a 6700xt as my GPU. With the upcoming Black Friday sale, just want to get an advice if I should upgrade my GPU to 9070xt (it's ~$780 USD in my country) or should I get a better monitor? I'm not sure with the current meta of monitors right now but I'm currently using the ASUS TUF VG249Q1R. I've heard that 1440p is significantly better than 1080p gaming. Let me know what you think.

personally i would make a list of monitors/gpus that fit your budget on something like pcpartpicker or others
Buy whichever has the best discount on black friday

Thanks I will keep that in mind, I'm keeping tabs on the monitor that will have a great deal.

Black Friday is unlikely to affect GPU prices much. Monitors on the other hand.. since there are so many to choose from you are very likely to snag a good deal somewhere. Just check price history to make sure there’s no shenanigans.
Switching from 1080p to 1440p will put a lot of extra load on your current GPU. In a few titles you may even regret it. But over all it will absolutely be an improvement. But as someone else said it’s all about ppi. So size matters.

Yes, I will keep on monitoring for a great deal on the monitor before end of the year. Just heard about the ppi from the previous commenter, this will help me research about a great monitor on my end. Appreciate it mate!

It all depends on the games you‘re playing. If you mainly play FPS like CS, Valorant and all that stuff, I‘d stick on 1080p and go for the gpu instead.
I have a dual monitor setup with a 1080p and a 4k monitor, mainly play CS2 and only play on the 1080p monitor.

Noted on this, I might copy your style if I only want to play FPS or MOBA - I would stick to my good ol' 1080p monitor. Then for the GPU extensive games I would go for the 1440p/higher monitor.

Monitor is the call. 9070xt is no use on an obsolete monitor

This is noted, my monitor is already 6 years old. I was aiming to reach higher FPS and great quality as well. I will get a monitor soon first before upgrading my GPU.

I recommend getting a better monitor first, then save up again to get a gpu worthy of your monitor.

Thanks mate! I'm having a hard time choosing my upgrade path

Everybody can have their own opinion. But I believe you can have the best pc in the world but if you don't enjoy your monitor, then the whole experience is bad. Monitor is point of final output.
If you have a great monitor but your gpu can't take full advantage of it? Atleast you can watch movies and stuff at a higher resolution and a bigger screen until you eventually upgrade your gpu worthy of it.

Yes, I agree with your take in regards to the relationship between GPU & monitor. This monitor has been serving me for almost 6 years back when 1080p is still the sweet spot I haven't tried a 1440p yet, this might be the time. Thanks again for the wonderful insight. Cheers!

dude i upgraded from 1080 to 1440 recently and i can tell, i can't go back. it feels like having bad sight and putting glasses on.

Happy to hear about it! I'm looking forward to that same reaction if I do get an upgrade before the end of the year

Monitor prices stay the same while Gpu prices fluctuate, so if you think the gpu prices might go up, then secure the gpu first. If you think that it might go down, then get the monitor.

I noticed that this is also the price trend in my country for both the monitors and GPUs. This is a new learning for me - "ppi" for the monitors. I will do a research on this to get an idea on which monitor should I buy soon. Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate this one! :D
