Overwhelmed with new PC build
Posted by Yoshi667@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 28 comments
G'day Everyone!
I'm an old IT-head trying to build a new PC, but it seems so much more complicated now. I've been trying for a while when I have the time, but I feel I am going in circles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
> I'm building it for gaming primarily. I am currently playing BF6, and mine is struggling.
> I am running two G27QC screens @ 2160 res. I am not looking to upgrade to 4k gaming anytime soon.
> I have two NVME drives already, so the board needs two slots. (Preferably Gen4+)
> I want to salvage my Corsair AX860 PSU as it is almost brand new.
> I would prefer a 5070ti, but am also happy with 9070xt.
> I am happy with Intel or AMD for the chip. I have read that both are being fried anyway.
> I would prefer a wifi board for my controllers, but I am not keen on the wired antenna.
> The board needs the three plugs for my speakers.
> I don't care about RGB.
> I live in Australia, and my room is not air-conditioned. Ambient temp can get pretty warm.
> Everything will need to be shipped.
> My soft budget is $2500 AUD.
Here is what I have so far from PCPP: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/The_Yosh/saved/6J4tQ7
I'm not locked in to either brand, whether it is Intel or AMD, and Nvidia or AMD. I have read Intel had problems with a certain chipset, and I have also read AMD has problems with their chips and certain boards. I just don't want my chip to blow up.
The reason I would prefer the 5070ti is that I am familiar with the Nvidia software. I am also time poor, so I just want to boot the PC up and play with the boys. However, throughout the years, I keep hearing that AMD has issues with games. The most recent was Helldivers 2, and a couple of indie games I play with mates. I just don't have time to sit there and fiddle with settings and drivers to get my games to work is all.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm at my wits' end and am considering just pulling the trigger on an inferior pre-made. Just let me know if you need any extra info. Thanks, all!

Is what i got for around 2500$ will run anything you throw at it at max settings as far as i have seen
Hugh_Jego_69@reddit
Value for money at that price point it’s about as good as it gets. I have same setup and running bf6 at 4K with solid frames. Very solid rig overall.
kobylaz@reddit
I posted a build im nearly finished with just the last tidy up that might help you to copy!
Heroid12@reddit
Maybe change motherboard to gigabyte b850 gaming x
Heroid12@reddit
Also how about getting cheaper ram and 7800x3d then I thing u could change to 5070 ti
Yoshi667@reddit (OP)
Thanks mate! I'll take a look at the Gigabyte board for sure. I'll check with the 7800x3d and RAM changes. Will that bottleneck the GPU? (If bottlenecking is even a thing anymore)
Heroid12@reddit
Since u will be playing at 4k I doubt there will be bottleneck from cpu
mig_f1@reddit
Would something like the following work for you? You may need to flash latest BIOS before installing the cpu, and make sure your psu supports 5070 Ti's connector.

Excellent build, PNY cards are a steal at the moment.

This looks great, thank you! Time to start adding stuff to my cart.

Np :)

There is no way to get a 5070 ti into a build in your budget. Get the 9070 xt

I have just finished my PC build including a 7800x3d and 5080 and it came in just above that. Just gotta find the right deals at the right time.
Antec cx200m $60 Gigabyte A620m gaming xax $160 Ram 5200mhz 2 x 16gb $140 Ryzen 7800x3d $580 Deepcool AK630 $60 PNY 5080 $1750 Corsair 850w PSU $195
If he dropped to a 5070ti I can see an MSI @ $1399 on centrecom, there's probably a zotac, PNY or palit or something available a little cheaper.
He'll go close if he finds the right deals.

Please share your finished build - I’m also planning to play BF6 and I’m in Australia too
Omgitschewy@reddit
Not much to add since I recently got back to gaming on pc. I kept my old system when I built it from about 7 years ago iirc. Replaced my 1070ti to a 5070 exclusively for BF6 and it handles ultra at 1440p 144hz wonderfully at 105-115fps. I couldn’t probably squeeze a little bit more from OCing, but I’m content with it. Didn’t want to overspend. Might upgrade later down the road but for now it’s meeting my needs.

Hey, try removing then searching for G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory again and you should see the exact same kit for $219. That's what I have in my PCPP List.

@ 2160 res -----> That is 4K
I am not keen on the wired antenna----------> The antennas are 4 inches long not 4 Feet
Yoshi667@reddit (OP)
Heha, trueeee. 2160 is 4k! I should have double checked. It is 2560x1440p. Thanks, I'll change that. I also wasn't sure about the antenna length. It looked long in the pictures when it was wound up. Good to know they aren't long. I might be able to just stick it to the PC or something.
Cheers!

Quick search
https://aftershockpc.com.au/ready-to-ship/desktops
and another
https://www.nebulapc.com.au/collections/ready-to-ship
from australia that has premades in your price range. No muss no fuss plug and play and you can customize one.
Unfortunatlly most of those companies throw all kinds of rgb on it.
IF you really want to build it for yourself you can choose alternative parts (like that cpu) for some lower costs and put more into the GPU.
Yoshi667@reddit (OP)
The NebulaPC is the prebuilt I have been eyeing off! They put up a deal on OzBargains that brings it down to $2500 for Nvidia and $2300 for AMD w/o changes. This Reddit post was my Hail Mary before I just bought one.
Remote-Button-1344@reddit
The build is good, just the psu idk if that psu came with a 12v 2x6 cable for the 5070 ti if you want that and the 9070 xt its a great option too, btw the issue with fried ryzen 7 9800x3d its more with asrock motherboard so just don't get a asrock mobo
Yoshi667@reddit (OP)
Hmmm, I did check the compatibility on PCPP, which said it was ok. But I will double check that for sure!
I heard that about Asrock too! Saw the storm it generated. I think that scared me a bit. Although in a different post I saw it was happening on most boards. It was just a matter of how frequent.
Fingers crossed!
Remote-Button-1344@reddit
Yeah i have issues with my x870 asrock mobo and my 7 9800x3d, at least didn't kill my cpu and now I have a x870 aorus elite, no issues since March
EternalDuoae@reddit
The build looks okay but I'm not quite sure what you mean by "I would prefer a wifi board for my controllers, but I am not keen on the wired antenna." I mean, if you want wireless, you need an antenna?
Yoshi667@reddit (OP)
Sorry, I just meant the one that has the antenna that you put on the desk or top of the PC. The MSI motherboards are the ones I saw them on the most.
EternalDuoae@reddit
Ah okay!
Yeah, I have those on my GIgabyte motherboards as well.
SmokBarrage@reddit
yea i mean looks good i think youre overthinking it.
Yoshi667@reddit (OP)
Thanks, I probably am. Decision paralysis has got me bad!
