Bloodsport (1988)
Trixie1143@reddit
Greatest marital art movie of all time, based entirely on a lie.
Love it.
drknifnifnif@reddit
Was that lie that van damme can act?
tgerz@reddit
No that Frank Dux fought in a made up secret martial arts event. All BS.
sgrams04@reddit
But he was a special ops decorated veteran whose identity was denied by the US military because it was just that secretttt
Any_Ring_3818@reddit
The location of the Kumite was real. Kowloon Walled City - Wikipedia https://share.google/f45zCGB2mRmYZk9S1
Trixie1143@reddit
Yup
honestrade@reddit
Once on Dinner with a Movie, they pointed out the irony in how no one questions Jackson’s qualifications but make Dux do the Dim Mak, so now I can’t help but think of that every time I watch this scene.
zenerNoodle@reddit
No irony. Dux's invitation was through Tanaka. They're dubious that Tanka trained him, so they test it. They have no trouble believing Jackson trains at that hole in the wall we see in the beginning.
honestrade@reddit
Yeah they probably just had the Dim Mak testing apparatus ready to go for whenever Shidoshi Tanaka’s fighter arrived.
UnslakableTemperance@reddit
If you've got the time and want to laugh your ass off check out this awesome redux supercut video by Napoleon Blownapart dissecting the life and times of the Dim Mak Master Count Dante & totally legit Kumite Champion Frank Dux.
His Madness Of Make Believe Marital Arts video covers even more hilarious hijinx, including the make believe Bullshido Bozo Ashida Kim.
theLastKingofScots@reddit
Well there goes 3 hours of my life. Thank you kind internet stranger!
theLastKingofScots@reddit
Watched this today. Still one of the greatest JCVD movies and quintessential 80’s movie.

OK USA

Jackson!? You look like a Jackson
theLastKingofScots@reddit
You must be Ducks.

I say this at least twice a month since the day I first heard it.
Riffage@reddit
Immediately after losing a fight:
One day I will fight in the Kumite and make my father proud!
AdOwn2315@reddit
Young Frank Dux had the best acting I’ve ever seen
SlackerDS5@reddit
I know it was to tie in the backstory, but it was so random.
ThepalehorseRiderr@reddit
Rich_Text82@reddit
B.S. because apparently the real life Frank Dux was a pathological liar.
chocki305@reddit
Omg!
What's next? You going to tell me John Rambo isn't real. Star Trek are not historical documents?
Rich_Text82@reddit
Yes, Star Trek and Rambo are the same as a movie supposedly based on a real person and his life smart guy.
chocki305@reddit
Yes. Based on. But not a documentary. Meaning a loose story of.
Do you think JFK is an accurate representation of the real person's life?
Rich_Text82@reddit
You're the one that compared a Martial Arts Movie that supposed to based to real life events to a Sci-Fi set hundreds of years in the future and Vietnam Veteran Revenge Fantasy. Now you're moving the goal posts when I rightfully called out how ridiculous that was to JFK, a political thriller based on a real assassination of a US President. Do you have anything better to do than engage in specious arguments on reddit?
chocki305@reddit
I guess you haven't seen Galaxy Quest.. and couldn't tell my original comment was a joke.
The fact remains.. "based on" is not a documentary, and is not accurate.
Rich_Text82@reddit
The ol' you didn't get my joke defense after getting owned. Goodday sir!
chocki305@reddit
You clearly haven't seen Galaxy Quest. "Historical documents" was a dead giveaway.
But you still refuse to address the real issue.. "based on".
card-board-board@reddit
I remember it says before the credits that Frank Dux won something like 400 consecutive fights in the Kumite. But it being a single-elimination 1 on 1 tournament, that would mean there were 2^400 fighters.
For just 40 rounds, (2^40) there would be 1 trillion fighters.
HypaBomb@reddit
Napoleon!
mramseyISU@reddit
Frank Dux is completely full of shit but his bullshit story made one hell of a movie.
CallidoraBlack@reddit
I think a lot of people feel that way about American Sniper too.
ConspiracyParadox@reddit
Indeed. Guy is a liar, but tge lie is a great story.
NavierIsStoked@reddit
No one cares, the movie kicks ass either way.
No-Net-4661@reddit
Yes, but I still love the movie! I mentioned this before but Frank used to get blasted drunk and would post on mma.tv. It never went well for him as it was all real martial artists posting there.
cliqclaqstepback@reddit
Okay USA!
GatorFPC@reddit
I watched this movie every single time it came on TV in the 1990s. If this movie came on and you were home sick from school that day, it was like a gift from JCVD heaven.
zombietrooper@reddit
Part or the reason why you can’t tell me ANYTHING bad about JCVD to this day. Dude was like my childhood television hero, the same way Jean-Luc Picard is my childhood television dad(the “Jean” thing is strange, but coincidental). Cyborg, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Lionheart, Double Impact, Universal Soldier, Timecop. 🤌
Steven Seagal was up there too, but fuck that guy.
Kellzy1212@reddit
Tom Segura’s bit about Steven Seagal is hilarious.

it's from bad thoughts on Netflix. the whole series is beyond anything i've seen in a while. this is a nice rundown of all his characters in it.
Seagal bit is from the episode 2 segment "Maximum Kickage"
squarebodynewb@reddit
Netflix, will search. Thanks.
Frequent_Course5399@reddit
I, too, loved JCVD back in the day, but he was a colossal asshole. Nowhere near Seagal-level, but a real prick to fans and women. Age seems to have brought him back down to earth.
Panek52@reddit
100 percent.
Watched it anytime it was on TV in high school. My buddies and I loved it in college and sometimes reenacted the fight scenes 😂
R0botDreamz@reddit
My friend had the VHS. Every time I went over I always wanted to watch it. It got so bad that he got mad one time and said "all you ever want to do when you come over is watch Bloodsport"
tavikravenfrost@reddit
My grandmother loved this movie, so we had it on VHS. It was nice to be able to watch it whenever I wanted.

Apparently also a super nice dude.
handsomeape95@reddit
He was in Enter the Dragon. Apparently they became good friends after that movie. I always wondered if that "brick not hit back" line was a nod to Bruce.
