I spent my whole childhood Living in one of the smaller paradise cities in Southern California until I went into the navy at 18. We only vacationed in cities that were on par with it or better. I never realized how fucking bad it is everywhere else. I went to Maryland first and immediately regretted stepping foot out of Santa Barbara. I’ve been back ever since I discharged. I’ll be moving to Europe as soon as my kids are grown.

Europe is only a better place to live for people who are below middle class. Americans who are in high skill sectors truly have no idea how much better they have it.

Here’s a few examples of what doing well for yourself would earn you in the UK:

Chemical engineers make like £50k-ish and that is considered a great salary over here despite cost of living being roughly similar to the US.
Software engineers make about the same - £40k-£50k or thereabouts. Again, seen as living the dream (so don’t you dare complain you spoiled ungrateful snob).
Literal brain surgeons earn less than £100k
Lawyers make around £40k-£50k
Astrophysics make £40k
Investment bankers earn perhaps £70k-£80k at the high ends.

No matter what you do or achieve in the UK, you’ll almost always be trapped with a salary in between £40k-£60k. Damn near impossible to escape unless you straight up start a successful company. Oh and you’ll be paying half of your salary in tax and your house will be one third of the size an equally expensive one would cost in the US. Fun!

I'd rather be middle class in Europe. Govt. Gives childcare, medical, I get my cheap French car, 4 weeks off, no "medical debt" (wtf), two holidays a year to other European countries.

And honestly, despite the taxes I'd rather be rich in Europe, driving around the med, skiing in the Alps, yachts and côté d'azur.

Living in Europe and having done a road trip through the USA, we really do not win this. They just have an insane amount of large biomes with amazing uniqueness and variation.

And what does this prove? I didn't say Europe is ugly. USA just has way more variation and extreme landscapes.

Some USA nationanal Parks are bigger than Switzerland, you know that right?

How many settlements, industries and farming industries do you pass from Switzerland to south Spain?

Now in the USA, you can drive for several hours without anything. Just pure rugged landscape. And it changes often.

All people I know that love to travel like me and love nature/landscapes agree without hesitation that the USA was one of not the best trip for that purpose. What's your source? Did you even visit west coast USA?

Yes, there are interesting spots, but finding adventure, wilderness and remote places in Europe is nearly impossible. The continent is so densely populated that you're always near civilization.

The only places that come somewhat close, are the Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland). But it's still not the same.

I don't think the rise of the far right has much to do with migration, they are just the perfect scapegoat. Afd is the strongest in rural areas which have no migrants and weak in big cities where there are many migrants, I wonder why.

But look at Orbán, he has been campaigning against migrants from the start when noone wanted to immigrate to fucking Hungary of all places. You misunderstood, I didn't say it raised fertility rates, but it helps the people who have kids. That's the point of a government generally among other things, to help their citizens.

No, Afd is strong in rural areas where migrants don't want to go anyway because they are poor and have no jobs etc, it's not because Afd miraculously kept them away. The slow death of rural areas is a major contributor everywhere to rightwing sentiments, Hungary, Poland, Germany, US you name it.

I thought we were talking about the EU in general, and Orbán was among the first succesful populist rightwing guys in the EU and is a model for other rightwing dudes. Also the Afd and the european rightwing in general is a putin stooge lol, so idk how that matters.
