I am going to be in London for 4 days. I am planning to visit the list below. Would it be better to stay in Southwark (Premier Inn Southwark Station) or Covent Garden (Hub by Premier Inn Covent Garden)? Both equal out to the same price.
want to visit:
- watch a show or more at london theatre
- big ben
- tower bridge
- borough market
- national history museum
- bukingham palace
- parliament
- westminster abbey
- shakespeare globe
- st. paul’s cathedral
- london eye
- hyde park
- soho
- chinatown
- tafalgar square
- millennium bridge
- the dungeon
maybe visit:

Londoner here and Covent Garden, for sure. Southwark gives you some nice walks down the South Bank (with sights such as the Tate Modern, Globe Theatre, the Clink prison and the Golden Hind) but Covent Garden is a lot more convenient for what you want to do.

A small, pedantic point that doesn't answer your question. But note that it's the Natural History Museum, not national history museum. The displays are of plants, animals, fossils, dinosaur bones, that kind of thing. If you're expecting British national history you'll be disappointed.

Although of course the British Museum is nearby and is all historic items (albeit mostly not British)

All the things we've nicked.

If the rooms are the same, I'd go with covent garden, as it's more central.
But there's not a lot in it.

I always try to stay in Covent Garden. Apart from the central position, it's just a lovely part of London. Bear in mind though that the hub rooms are very small compared to a standard room, so that's something to consider. Personally, I like them for a short stay as I'm out most of the time anyway.

Covent Garden. The Southwark location is on a very quiet street that feels desolate and abandoned at night. Objectively it may well be safer than Covent Garden, but it doesn't feel that way.

I'd say Covent Garden but mostly for the local restaurants. It's great to stay near good food
ResplendentBear@reddit
They're both central London, although arguably Covent Garden is pretty much the centre of central London.
Southwark is good for Tower Bridge (and the Tower of London), Borough Market and the Globe. And the Shard, although it's not on your list. Everything else is probably easier from Covent Garden.
(If you do stay in Southwark it's pronounced Suvvock. Not south-wark.)
SomeHSomeE@reddit
Suhthook. (Where the 'oo' rhymes with 'book' rather than 'boot').
If you say 'Sovvock' people are going to think you're saying Suffolk
ODFoxtrotOscar@reddit
I don’t think I’ve ever heard it said with the second syllable rhyming with ‘book’
I’ve always said (and heard) Suthuck
Riovem@reddit
Yeah I was trying to pronounce it with an ook and I sounded like i was doing an offensively bad northern accent.
Suthuck for me too. But as this thread is people saying how to pronounce it and then being corrected I await the next pronunciation!
ODFoxtrotOscar@reddit
I was wondering if there was a regional accent involved with ‘book’!
SomeHSomeE@reddit
Others have covered where.
On your list it would seem silly not to see Picadilly Circus as it's very close to Covent Garden and even closer to Trafalgar Square. Just a 5-10 min walk. Depending on when you're coming you may also then be able to walk up Regent Street to Oxford Street under all the beautiful Christmas lights, and then walk along Oxford Street to Hyde Park.
I'd skip Paddington. It's just a big ugly train station and not much to see around it.
Camden Market these days is just overcrowded and full of tat. But a walk along the Regents Canal is nice albeit can get v busy.

Covent Garden is a really good starting point. In fact it's so good that some people when travelling to Leicester Square prefer to stop at Covent Garden and walk to Leicester Square because it would genuinely be faster that way.

Covent Garden.
pomm_queen@reddit
Covent Garden. More central like others have had said, but as a female Londoner I find Southwark to be pretty dodgy. Covent Garden obviously has the same risks as any big city still, but it is super-pretty and cultured! Any questions you have about visiting London, feel free to hmu! Oh and please visit Camden, but not on the weekend-stables markets are the best and most authentic bits. Visit cyberdog too-bonkers. It used to be better though 😢
Beautiful_Security35@reddit
Covent Garden. Much more central and easy to get to most of those places you mentioned. Have fun!
ZenDoesReps@reddit
I think either is fine but agreed Covent would be better
Beautiful_Security35@reddit
Oh I agree, either would be ok. But Covent Garden is easily the best of those two on location alone.
The only reason to pick Southwark is that it's a proper Premier Inn rather than a Hub.
