Today is my first solo cross country flight student pilot at the end of my flight at the approach before contacting airport tower i made a honest mistake when the approach told me to head to this heading and i missheard the heading went to the wrong way. got chewed out by the approach for it and im very worried right now that my flight career might be finished. they didnt ask or give any phone number so im very worried

Turn off the sweat pumps.
It’s not the last time you’ll get yelled at.

I did this exact thing yesterday. Was told to go West of the airport and join the downwind, I got W and E mixed up and turned the wrong way. Was hit with the "N123 where are you?" Followed by the "wrong way dufus" (not really but it felt like that). Said a quick sorry, turned around promptly, and that was that. It happens.

You are fine. You fixed the problem. You won't do it again. Move on.

Don’t mislead the OP into thinking this was the one and only fuckup in a career.
I figure I hear at least one screwup a month on the radio.

You'll be fine. You're not the first or last pilot who has made a mistake.
It's possible to fill out a NASA ASRS report preemptively if you're concerned about enforcement action, but since you didn't get a phone number to call, there's effectively zero chance that anyone is going to make a stink.

You got yelled at, you fixed the problem, move on. You didn't get a phone number, so the situation ended there.
Learn from it.

You're fine. Learning moment. Also controllers are working without pay right now, so they might be a little extra stressed.

No phone number = no problem. Learn from it and move on. We all make mistakes..
