Kiosk mode in tablets

Hello everyone. I work as an IT in a medical clinic. And recently they brought around 30 Samsung tablets to work with. My boss asked me to see if I can lock them down and show only "odoo app" that has the clinic's information system I asked chatgpt about it and said something about kiosk mode. But i found only paid ones nothing free Any suggestions? Or help is appreciated

You can try any Android Kiosk Mode. It lets you lock Samsung tablets to a single app like your Odoo app, block settings, disable navigation keys, and manage all devices from one dashboard. There’s also a free trial to test it before rolling it out.

I think any standard MDM will do this. Intune, Meraki, etc.
I’m not sure how to enable kiosk without an MDM but it’s probably still possible.

Yup, it's called "guided access" in the accessibility settings on the iPad.
Designed more for parents to lock their child to one app or similar, but works in a pinch, as you need a passcode to unlock it, compared to an MDM which needs an APNS push to exit single app mode.

Yes that’s exactly what I was thinking of.

We chose TinyMDM. Relatively good value for money. Fairly simple basic settings and lots of possibilities for customizing alerts, etc.

Your company owned mobile devices should be enrolled in MDM, even if they aren't being used in kiosk mode, and yes that's going to cost money.
That said, if you are in M365, you should see if you already have Intune licensing available.

A one time purchase if around $10 will allow you to do what you are after.
I have yet to find any free solutions.

Yeah this is what we use, simple enough to setup and use

Parental control but it's big yikes.

Vouch! Awesome app, works well.

I second this. I've used fully kiosk and it works perfectly to lock the tablet into kiosk mode.

I use something can't find right now. I'll get back to you.

If your already licensed for intune you can use that. You might want single app mode instead of kiosk mode though. Once they start asking for more items like the camera or other system access.

I think new tablets usually come with a year license for samsun knox. You could use it. Also its cheaper than a lot of other mdm solutions.

Maybe parental controls? I just looked at this for a 5 year old. You can turn off pretty much all apps..

This can work. But for anything over 5 devices is a pita to manage. But if budget is low then i can work depending on the manufacturer.

As already mentioned, you could use Family Link as a quick fix until you find a better solution.
Samsung has a Knox SDK that has a free kiosk mode. I've never used it, so I don't know how good it is.

Use guided access if you don’t have any mdm solution.

Odoo is a web CRM. Go cheap like I did since it's a doctor's office (we're a non profit, same sort of funding forward IT though) - Linux on a separate VLAN with an auto login to a non admin account that launches the web browser with the page location.

I do so with Intune, and it was fairly easy. I do have it synced with Android Enterprise, which requires some additional setup, but it was well worth it in my opinion and not difficult to do. You could figure it out in an afternoon.

NinjaOne MDM. You can absolutely do this, using this solution.
BWMerlin@reddit
All of our nurses tablets are locked into kiosk mode through Workspace ONE.
Yes it costs but there are massive savings in managing the tablets overall that the cost of the MDM is easily paid back.

If your organization uses Intune to manage devices, you can set up configuration policies to lock it down to just one app. ChatGPT can help walk you through it.
We use this in my organization to show only our time clock app.

Same. We have probably six profiles now on various android handheld machines. All running kiosk mode managed desktop and only allowed specific apps. Works like a charm. Biggest issue is getting them on wifi with certs. We got scep working but it won't renew the certs. Other than that it works great.

That is usually done through your mdm solution. However, android has an option called the pinn App. That might suit your purposes.
