How about audit post secondary education removing any courses with negative employment. If theres a shortage of nurses have 10 classes of nurses. Not two with limited enrolment.
Accurate_Stuff9937@reddit
Nurse here. The problem with the nursing shortage is due to the low teacher pay and high hospital pay. I make $130 an hour 2 years out of school at my hospital job as an RN and would need to pay for a master's degree ($30-90k) to teach at a community college level RN program where I get paid $50 an hour. They can't find anyone to teach because who wants to cut their income in half? And that is why there is a nursing shortage. Pay 150$ an hour to teach and remove masters requirements and there will be an overabundance of nurses 2 years later.
CheeseyTriforce@reddit
You make $130 per hour where the fuck do I sign up?
ElizabethTheFourth@reddit
Nurses make that much money because they work 12 hour shifts wiping asses and getting puked on. It's a terrible existence.
CheeseyTriforce@reddit
I admit I have a bit of a phobia of "Feces" but even then $130 per hour might be worth it since I make $35ish in IT and still deal with idiots who shit their pants all day
Accurate_Stuff9937@reddit
I work postpartum, there is no ass wiping involved. I mostly hand out Tylenol and take blood pressures, I teach women breastfeeding and occasionally hang I V meds. Occasionally there is real medical situations but its rare, its mostly getting ice waters and clicking buttons on the computer. Some social issues like when there is a teen pregnancy or some family drama going on. Everyone in my unit is mostly healthy except for occasional high blood pressure or diabetes. They all use the bathroom by themselves.
Camyl96@reddit
Is there on call hours? Do you have a nurses union? Pt. ratio?
CheeseyTriforce@reddit
> I mostly hand out Tylenol
so sorry your majesty, I had no idea I was standing before the king of Autism
I kneel

Accurate_Stuff9937@reddit
If it makes you happy I help perform circumcisions on little baby boys then suggest to every single parent to give their infant Tylenol for pain management and I have no intention to stop.
Because Tylenol doesn't cause autism and this administration is like following advice of a tweeker thats stripping the Whitehouse for the copper wiring.
ptjp27@reddit
They didn’t redeem the bathroom?
pause_and_consider@reddit
Also a nurse that has worked in about 14 hospitals in 6 states. $130/hr is some crazy unicorn job if the poster is being honest here. About half my career was spent under $30/hr pre-covid. It’s better now in a lot of places but there are still a ton of crap paying nurse jobs. Ironically often at the best name places. I work ER, ICU, flight.
eaturliver@reddit
They work 12hr shifts because there's a huge nursing shortage.
Accurate_Stuff9937@reddit
I work 8s and do not wipe ass. I hand out Tylenol and take blood pressures 90% of my job.
DrinkIntelligent9707@reddit
wiping asses? that’s what they hire CNA for.
MangoAtrocity@reddit

He is definitely in California or some other area with very high COL
Accurate_Stuff9937@reddit
Yes, northern California, which is the highest paying area in the country and I am at one of the best paying companies I moved here specifically to maximize my income. If you go work in Florida you will be making 25 an hour.
Accurate_Stuff9937@reddit
Kaiser nor cal per diem night shift.
CrazyTownUSA000@reddit
It's a catch 22, the $130/hr shrinks when more people enter the pool.
tr0ub4d0r@reddit
Because it’s important to have an education in things other than your job. Example 1 is we’ve eviscerated civics and a generation later we have an electorate who can’t figure out anything for themselves and fall for obvious dipshit lies.
OP is right by the way, except that Trump can’t sell the debt because it’s not worth anything in the open market. Administrations have looked into this before.
OutrageousQuantity12@reddit
Create an apprentice program for medical trades similar to construction trades. At least for general medicine; specialists, surgeons and researchers can stay behind the paywall we call med/nursing school.
You’re saying we can trust the people who ensure every building we enter won’t collapse, flood, fill with toxic gas, burn down from faulty electrical, or be filled with toxic materials through an apprenticeship program, but we can’t trust the people who take your blood pressure, administer cortisone shots, and give IVs with an apprenticeship program?
It seems insane that I have to maintain insurance, pay a $200 copay, and sit in a waiting room for 2 hours to get 5 minutes of face time with someone who I’m just seeing so they can give me permission to see someone who knows what they’re talking about without paying $15k. Don’t get me started on the nurses who struggle to find a vein making $80-$120 an hour when people making $15 an hour at a plasma center can find a vein like they’re giving themselves their next dose of heroin.
Googlemyahoo75@reddit
No you can’t trust them either. I was a gas & oil burner technician. Three different businesses all they wanted was the job done quickly regardless quality and send the bill.
I’ve felt the same with public health
OutrageousQuantity12@reddit
I mean… I’ve been injured by buildings a lot less than by doctors/nurses in my life, and I’ve gone in a lot more buildings than I’ve been treated by doctors/nurses.
ispb2@reddit
If only there was a mechanism by which we could allocate resources more efficiently than government programs riddled with moral hazard...
Googlemyahoo75@reddit
Trades for example has said theres a shortage for years. An employer is limited on hiring apprentices based on how many journeymen they employ. Most of it is entirely based on nepotism not personal knowledge.

ThirstyOutward@reddit
You mean needlessly regulate private companies?
Hmmm
ispb2@reddit
We need to regulate them to make up for the fact that we are subsidizing them.
tekprimemia@reddit
I take it your not much of a thinking man. The sad reality that our education system is designed to workers not fundamentally intelligent free thinkers. Low job entry for philosophers? Guess we don’t need them!
dagobert-dogburglar@reddit
Yeah dude. Just make it so people can’t afford college anymore, that’ll show those stupid liberals.
Surely there won’t be any major economic and societal ramifications from a rapid brain drain and doubly that there isn’t a historical precedent for this being a retarded idea or anything.
ToaKraka@reddit
Option 1: Let students get loans from the government. The universities increase prices ad infinitum because the government doesn't care about its taxpayers' money and will lend it like water regardless of return on investment. (You are here.)
Option 2: Make students get loans from private lenders. The universities cannot increase prices because private lenders care about their money and will not lend to unnecessarily-expensive universities or to unlucrative degrees.
Disclaimer: I have no knowledge of Trump's plan or whether it actually matches option 2.
Plantasaurus@reddit
Option 2: we have worked with the government to make it illegal to default on your debt. College debt is now like payday loans: we own you until death. It’s your fault for going to college knowing that all jobs would be eliminated by AI. Cook plan.
Laputa15@reddit
It’s kind of your fault, don’t you think? Student-loan forgiveness removes personal responsibility since it lets students linger in university for years without seriously considering what the job market demands.
Wanting people to think twice about going in debt is a good thing.
Plantasaurus@reddit
Currently, no young people. Which is such an unhealthy direction for our country to take and it will only get worse with this news. All white collar jobs (the ones that pay well) are on the chopping block. I work in AI for a security product. I’ve seen corporations repurpose our tool to slim down their legal and accounting costs. We’re cooked, and this move about student debt will just add gas to the fire
LordofShit@reddit
Honestly how responsible are you if you loan six figures to someone whose business plan is 'I'll eventually get a job'.
Student loans are the equivalent to asking someone to invest in a business that's only plan is to hire people and buy supplies.
That's part of why the current student loan setup is insane. You give six figures to someone fresh out of high-school and send them to a place where they will for sure try drugs and alcohol for the first time. College should be free in the same way that charging people to use public roads doesn't make sense.
mjm65@reddit
Tell that to the computer science majors…
I think student loans are one of the most predatory financial products available. It’s low rate is subsidized by being non-dischargeable and primarily given to 18 year olds.
slicehyperfunk@reddit
You say this like you think the retardification of this country is somehow a good thing
CheeseyTriforce@reddit
> or to unlucrative degrees.
This is the key point btw, Leftists have been using colleges to spread their ideology to students through useless social studies, psychology, and liberal arts degrees
ILoveWesternBlot@reddit
hmm surely this has to be brainwashing. There is no other explanation!
token_internet_girl@reddit
It's definitely brainwashing against the core ethos of the US, things like selfish interests, pride in ignorance, traditional values, and Christian beliefs. The entire modern conservative movement is a backlash against the exponential increase in knowledge we are finding ourselves encumbered with as a species and the subsequent alienation that brings. It is an inherently progressive process. Unable or unwilling to process its full scope, retreating into a safe and new dark age becomes highly desirable.
Davey_boy_777@reddit
LOL universities aren't discovering profound new truths that shift paradigms. It's inherently "white people evil and did everything bad ever and communism might work this time."
PersonaHumana75@reddit
Of course not. They are discovering simple facts that no respectable mind would preventively deny, it's not their fault people like you hear about the biggest strawman imaginable and unironically think it's true.
Some people may think stupid shit like white people evil and communism will work this time. What do You think about literally, literally everything else about universities?
Much-Effort-3788@reddit
They don't have a thought about university because they've never been. I can tell you that the only ideology that's been actively pushed in any of my classes was a heavy right wing bent in my US History class, and I an econ class where the bent was "politicians either don't care about or don't understand econ on the whole"
Crockinator@reddit
Couldn't you express your point without resorting to sarcasm? Sarcasm makes you sound like someone who has never dealt with his issues directly. Soft and slithery.

tweak8@reddit
We have the most educated society in the world right now, I wouldn't say it's not without its brain drain today.
It's hard to say that the more government got involved with funding, the more health care and education used that as blank checks which made it more unaffordable than ever. Most of it probably went to admin rather than actual teachers. Not to mention all the education people received just essentially changed job requirements from a high school degree to bachelors.
G4ndalf1@reddit
You think the USA is the most educated society in the world?
The_real_bandito@reddit
No, he meant in the history of USA, up to this point.
sprakes_@reddit
guessing that word made it confusing
tweak8@reddit
I meant as humans we have the most educated society in the world. Could be any country. But any educated country now today, likely has more educated people than before in history, only referring to itself. Not trying to open a can of worms that one country is better or worse, that detracts from my point.
CheeseyTriforce@reddit
Its in the top 5 for sure, modern countries love sending their students to our Universities too
tweak8@reddit
I'm saying it's the most educated it's ever been
Judah_Earl@reddit
You forgot all those highly educated H-1B Indians that are going to be imported!

dagobert-dogburglar@reddit
Aw, i’m sorry - would you like me to read it again to you but a little slower this time? Personally i had just assumed people recognize the connection between college and personal and societal success but I’ll be sure to edit it for retards to read too.

That ship has sailed, as far as disastrous downstream consequences of the anti-intellectualism & expert hatred that we're seeing dominate this admin. I guess the only question is how bad will it get. FuckRedditIsLame@reddit
People can't afford college anymore. They just don't know it yet because owing money to the government isn't seen as being as life ruining as owing it to a private corporation. How many are spending huge amounts of money on useless qualifications that won't ever return on the investment being made? How many with real degrees are struggling to get work with them because imported labor is cheaper?

Oh no, without college where will the kids learn how to be gay communists.

The reason you can't afford college is because they don't care if anyone pays back their loans.

Your logic is that if massive loans aren't guaranteed to attend these universities, at a cost that is basically 5-10x what most developed countries charge, simply no one will attend university in the US.
In reality these thousand of institutions will realize they can still operate and give decent salaries to all their administrators if they just stop wasting money on endless make work jobs for everpaid administrators.
Directionless young people 18-25 will 100% continue to seek university.
naked_short@reddit

Create a shell company and purchase back your own debt
Altruistic_Nose5825@reddit

Writefuck@reddit
We hit that point ages ago, what are you talking about.
tacobellbandit@reddit
Good. If the debt isn’t owned by the government it can be negotiated on for a settlement or wiped away with bankruptcy. Third parties buy bad debt for pennies on the dollar
aliph@reddit
Student loans can't be easily discharged in bankruptcy. Otherwise you'd just have a bunch of kids declare bankruptcy immediately upon graduating and then it'd be off their record by the time they buy a house.
tacobellbandit@reddit
That’s the point. I also don’t think higher education should be paywalled
MangoAtrocity@reddit
I mean the smarter approach is to not guarantee any loans. Make them exposed to risk. This will make lending much less frivolous, driving down the cost of tuition as demand collapses. Why on earth would a bank lend an 18 year old $120k to get an art history degree? Because the government will make the bank whole if the 18 year old can’t pay. It has to stop.
Dialectic-Compiler@reddit
Why would we want a society in which only the wealthy could be educated?
tacobellbandit@reddit
That’s part of being a financial lender, is calculated loss. If your model is ripping off high school kids and leaving them in debt to you until they either die or you get your return or then asking the government to cover your loss that’s not a viable business model. I feel like sometimes the only way it would be allowable in bankruptcy is if they could somehow suck the knowledge out of your brain if you didn’t pay your loan. It’s a useless paywall and the way colleges charge tuition at this point is criminal
ispb2@reddit
Everything is paywalled it's just a question of who is paying.
ResponsibleFarmer396@reddit
idk about the us but here you can definitely do that and tank your credit for “only” 7 years
The_Elusive_Dr_Wu@reddit
You can here. Technically. There are specifics about which type of student loan can be discharged. Most cannot. The ones that can, you have to file a separate suit as part of your bankruptcy proceeding where you have to prove the loan is causing you "undue hardship" and have made good faith efforts to repay the loan as well as possible.
TL;DR: If you have decent income and have only been making minimum payments, you're boned
Writefuck@reddit
Oh, so you're saying it'll never happen?
ispb2@reddit
Okay but then no one is going to lend students money. Think this though.
laserdicks@reddit
No one! Which is good because then scamming universities have no customers!
Once they have no customers they have to bring prices down until they get some. And we start healing the wound that the loans caused.

ChuForYu@reddit
Crying about the one speck of checks & balances still somehow holding our democracy together... It's just so unfair, these judges ruling based on the laws & Constitution right? Don't they know trump won?
CheeseyTriforce@reddit
Its an obvious fact that Federal Judges are abusing their power to write laws as they see fit, sometimes one that don't even exist like when SCOTUS forcibly reinterpreted the Constitution to brute force legalize gay marriage despite nothing in the Constitution ever legalizing gay marriage EVER!
Now Judges are telling the National Guard and military to defy the orders of the commander and chief and obey the orders of unelected judges serving the Taco Bell Bathroom district court or whatever
If Trump wants to save this country he would unilaterally declare those judges illegitimate and no longer of any power and if they try anything funny again arrest them and remove them permanently from the bench and if the Judges don't like it they can raise their own army and come fight the US Troops

ispb2@reddit
If they get rid of the gov guarantee and the exclusion from bankruptcy they're going to take a massive loss selling the loan portfolio.
DreamsServedSoft@reddit
private student loans also have an exclusion from bankruptcy so that’s not going away
aliph@reddit
Why would they do that. He wants them to pay banks not have the next D admin wipe away all the debt.
ispb2@reddit
Banks are not going to pay anywhere near face value for risky unsecured personal loans.
aliph@reddit
I've done securitizations of student loans and you are 100% wrong. They absolutely will for them. If you back out a few for profit institutions the repayment rate of student loans is extremely high, and when you adjust for the higher interest rates and the fact they can't be discharged in bankruptcy easily they offer a much higher risk adjusted rate of return.
Anyways, my point was why would Trump want to pass laws to make the paper worth less before selling them? That'd be dumb and he has no incentive to do that.
JohnDeere@reddit

A_Dragon@reddit
You know…some of us just tried to do the right thing, the thing that was expected of us with promises of a solid middle class comfortable lifestyle. We were even pressured into it by our parents and grandparents, some of them saying they would go so far as to disown us if we didn’t attend college.
Any attempts at taking a breather and trying to figure things out were discouraged, and dissent was quelled. All we wanted was the American dream just like our parents and grandparents had, but the world had changed and no one was there to help us through the transition, just spit us out into the world with what they knew was a worthless piece of paper, left to drown without even so much as a lifeboat. How were we supposed to know better? This is how the world had worked up until this point, we left high school in the old world and graduated college into a new one, completely unprepared.
The first wave of us graduated in the middle of an economic crash and any meager prospects of finding a job that did exist were taken away…we were left to fend for ourselves, fighting for scraps and forced into “unpaid internships”…if we were lucky and not immediately rebuked as “overqualified”. Many of us doubled down and said “well if I get a masters degree, surely that will differentiate myself from the rest of the pack”…unfortunately that was what everyone did, and the next wave graduated into a job market over saturated with masters of none.
Then we were told to learn how to code… certainly that’s the ticket! You have to be highly intelligent to succeed in that realm! And that’s something not everyone’s got…surely this time will be different…fool me twice I guess…just as before, the field instantly became over saturated and it became, once again, impossible to differentiate oneself from the herd.
Not all of us are latte-drinking, handbag-sporting, instagramming aficionados. Many of us just did exactly as we were told, and fell prey to the false promises of a world that we didn’t realize no longer existed until it was too late.
If you want to hate on someone hate the zoomers who at least had the chance to learn from the mistakes of the millennials, but don’t hate the cannon fodder that, like the first waves sent to Normandy beach, simply followed orders.

I never said it was fair, I just said it’s understandable why some people are in the situation they are in. It’s not entirely their fault. Obviously the only thing you can do is take personal responsibility because that’s the only thing that can actually change your situation.
wiccandestroyer@reddit
I'll do a respectful hard take since I'm an old fart born in 1980 and am "that generation"...
Your life is your responsibility. You chose to let people tell you what to do. Blame yourself. As long as that is your mindset you'll be a slave to the system that's failed you.
The system won't rescue you, your boomer dads may rescue you -if you are a lucky one- once they die and you inherit their wealth.
Most of us have to rescue ourselves.
And Im happy to, if I dont rescue myself I am an indebted slave.

Great idea Trump. If you got some debt you might be able to negotiate a lower price just to pay it out. For example, let's say you owe 50k. If you tell them I can pay it, but I got 10k now to pay it all off they might accept that if nothing at all.
inventingnothing@reddit
Eh, I'd be fine with something half way.
Solution? Take the grant money for universities and use it to pay down student debt.
On the one hand, these people chose these majors and career paths. On the other hand, they were lied to by many people and sold a terrible product by universities, which influenced their choices. It was false advertising, but they should still be on the hook for some of it. This solution helps people out while keeping them on the hook for their own decisions, and punishes universities which handed out useless degrees.

I wouldn't expect people on a 4chan sub to get it lmfao, but there is a reason why rich people make their children go to college.

To be educated. Educated and smart aren’t the same.

The rich send their children to college. They just don't want your kids (hypothetical kids, as you don't have sex) to do so.

This is great news because it means that most students will be able to settle their debt for much less because debt is usually bought with Pennys on the dollar.
DeKosterIsNietDom@reddit
That may be true for debt that's dischargeable in bankruptcy, but I doubt this debt will be sold for dirt cheap.
There would be little reason to settle debt for less when the person who took on the debt has no way to get rid of it without paying all of it.
Pizzasupreme00@reddit
Why would the loan principle decrease just because the ownership changed hands?
Falcon84@reddit
Any private company buying all the debt from the government is probably already paying pennies on the dollar for it. Likely much more willing to negotiate it down with borrowers to increase the chances of getting paid.
A_Dragon@reddit
It doesn’t, but you can usually negotiate.
Nutaholic@reddit
I mean perhaps the government should not have handed out loans to people who would never pay them back forcing the rest of us to pay up. I mean I'm a fan of some debt forgiveness but this latest chapter in the crisis is basically one of Democrats own creation.
buttputt@reddit
Once again someone forgets who was president in 2020 - the CARES Act that paused student loan payments was not signed by Joe Biden.
The terms of the loans can't be re-negotiated without the consent of the borrower. Many of these loans bear no interest and those that do carry a very low rate. The government would take a huge loss selling the debt to any private lender.
Angel_OfSolitude@reddit
He should do it and then destroy all the government loan programs. I'm tired of whiny idiots expecting me to bail out their loans.

They don't deserve bailout. They don't deserve free money for their poor life choices. If they priotirize paying off their loans with their money, they would have paid them off

laserdicks@reddit
Why would any politician remove the loans that they can forgive for votes whenever needed?
CaterpillarLoud8071@reddit
I mean, on his own head be it. Ever wonder why US graduates earn so much more than the rest of the western world? The prospect of paying off $1000 of debt a month for 20 years means most high school grads wouldn't look twice at getting a degree unless they were earning significantly more than everyone else. What would be the point?
Make college cheap, more graduates means companies would be able to drive a harder bargain. Sell off all their loans to private companies, you're stuck with those high graduate costs indefinitely - and cheap Chinese and Indian graduates look a lot more enticing.
