Someone will probably argue with me on this, since not automatically assuming the guy is a complete moron seems to be hated around these parts, but this looks like a temporary work zone. You can't plan ahead for things that don't show up on a gps map or in an atlas.
Now, if he couldn't make the turn, he should have stopped, and called the police, and told them he couldn't make it. Doesn't necessarily mean he's on a route he's not supposed to be. I've been in plenty of "truck routes" that aren't very good at being truck routes, and that's without construction.
There's one in WV that had google reviews from other truckers it was so bad lol. My atlas said it was a truck route. GPS said it was about 35 minutes quicker. I took the route, and quickly realized what a mistake that was, pulled over, and did some digging. That's when I found the reviews but it was too late. Had to lump it and spend the next two hours doing the kind of mountain driving you'd expect to do in Idaho logging country or something. Test of my skills. Blind curves too tight to keep in the lane, steep declines and inclines exceeding 10-12*, weirdly suburban infrastructure up and down the mountain with school zones etc (I did this on Christmas eve last year, so plenty of need to be careful), the occasional other truck coming the other way who seemingly also had no clue how bad it was who you encounter at the worst possible place etc. etc.
My point? Don't automatically assume the guy is a fool and went down a route he wasn't supposed to (which can happen to plenty of non-fools too btw), especially when the guy is in a construction zone that might have been done improperly. Yeah, he's a fool for not stopping before the trailer went off, but the navigation could have been as accurate as he could get it.
thats Highway 36. There's an absolute ton of signs that say 'Kingpin not advised,' but at least 2-3 times a month, some dumbass using Google Maps gets routed from I-5 to 101 via this route becuse it's faster than going all the way up to 299, and they totally fuck the road.
Had the same thing happen in WV, couldn’t believe how difficult it was. Must’ve been the same route (around Charleston?)..never had my brakes starting to smoke, anywhere in the Rockies or whatever time of year…but that perfectly dry summer day on that road had me sweating bullets.
Never again will I stray from an interstate in WV or AR for that matter, if it can be avoided. Had some rough days in the Ozarks as well on those state routes in the middle of AR but those were usually necessary.
And I agree, they may have not known that was coming. People here are talking about signs. You’ve been in it and I can tell. Sometimes those signs start to show up when it’s way too late, if they’re even there at all. If someone can’t back into downward turns (who knows, they may have even tried) then the only way is forward.
Just should’ve stopped before attempting that and called police but panic makes people irrational at times. I guess those commenters know exactly how they would’ve gotten in done.
I know CDL Life app has a route sharing section, Driver Pulse has Map with route info, and Trucker Path, while I don't see any info specifically for the roads, there is a Q&A section for things on the road that have pertinent info for the way there if there are problems reaching that destination.
You are correct. But he was driving slow, so he knew he may have problems, he should have been checking his mirrors and checking where his tires are, and once he ran out of road, he should have stopped.
I did even back in 2010 when I was a rookie. Old guys laughed at me for never using paper atlases, but I never had problems getting to wherever I needed to go.
15 years later and not a paper atlas in my truck to be seen.
I do too. I do fuel now going to the same stations, but when I was bumping docks I’d always look up the receiver. My trainer used to cuss me out “all you’re doing is making yourself worried” I was not with her for long lol
I do the same thing because I have had some places really put me in a bad pinch. Especially when the GPS is assuming you're in a small car and gonna do a U-turn at a busy intersection.
I'm just hauling a horse trailer with ponies to birthday parties. I won't even commit to do a party or give them a price until I figure out how I'm going to get there and where I'll park. Google Maps is quite helpful. We've thus far avoided any hairy stuff like that video. PS: Tell all your friends to find pony rides for the kids.
That just reminded me that several years ago in an insanely hot July afternoon I had just got back in my truck after a delivery and there was this homeless guy who had clearly shat his pants and he was climbing on top of one of those big green metal clothes donation bins (about the size of a dumpster if it was on its side) and I was looking down at my paperwork and then I heard the loud clanging sound of the one way lid slamming shut.
I look up and the guy is gone. I thought "damn, I should tell someone" and then I completely forgot about it until just this moment
Forget evrything else, once you initially feel it tilting, and theres still tike to save it, why tf would you keep driving forward? And this dude aint even in a company truck
Way too many people clowning this dude in the comments. Most drivers never even qualify to pull oversized loads like this. The driver survived and possibly is still at it.
I had one where my brakes failed on a steep hill and my truck got like zero gravity airborne after plowing through the guardrail on a mountain side. I swear I experienced a heart attack in my dream.
So far, I think about the option on the GPS which is to not use ferries. I assume this option would touch on something like this. Because, of the weight or narrow parts of a road. Otherwise, I try to use my discernment to look at the size of the turn. I hesitate when a turn is too narrow. So, that's what comes to mind when there's no signs saying things like, "no trucks". Ya' gotta keep your eyes peeled.
He should have had enough common sense to stop and call for help. That’s entirely on him. As a truck driver you should be able to measure a space with your eyes and know if you can make it, and whether or not you have this ability, check, check, and recheck every inch of the way until you get through. And STOP before your tires leave the road.
Honestly, this looks like the road would've been tight but passable if those barriers weren't there. Probably was on the road when road work started and couldn't turn around or turn off the road anywhere. I know of plenty 4 lane highways that become 2 lane in the middle of nowhere and that don't have any other truck routes coming off of them. Roadwork in the wrong location means you just drove 15 miles only to reach an impassable location.
I'm guessing there's a section where it's usually a 4 lane divided highway, but due to roadwork one side of the highway is completely closed and the road worker is filming from there so they turned it into temporary head to head traffic on one side of the highway.
Only takes a minute to check the 511 website. I bet he's been around that curve before, but didn't expect the jersey barriers to be there.
That would suck having to back out of that one. I would probably call for a police escort.
That's what I meant... Sarcastic way. The higher speed gives the force opposite direction. And truly, if the high speed train goes slower than the required minimum speed at particular bend tips off the track like this rig.
Is he even that guy anymore? There is a road in high desert souther cal that looks like that and truckers try it every so often. Im to lazy to look it up..
Probably could have made it without a spread axle or with a shorter trailer but this is why they post signs. If the sign says absolutely no trailers over 40 feet long don’t take a 45, 48, or 53 foot trailer down the road. Maybe the restriction exists because you’d never make the turn. Maybe the restriction exists because you’re guaranteed to put the trailer in the ditch. Also, when I was more of a rookie driver than I am right now I did ditch a trailer and then drag it back onto the road. I was never in danger of my tractor also going in the ditch. Here it looks like the load shifted which flipped the trailer which flipped the tractor which dropped everything off the side of the mountain.
I'm thinking this is off of 175 between Hopland and Lakeport in california. My company has tried to send me down this road before with the truck and trailer and I've refused, because of videos like this. This is where I think that occurred: https://maps.app.goo.gl/qm9W9d4KDwp3PKP56
I'm guessing somewhere in the great smokey mountains. Ever since I-40 got washed out it was a nightmare with rookies trying to cut through the mountain highways.
As a truck driver you can avoid being in this position until one day. Some situations you just will not be able to avoid and you will find yourself in them, trying to find out how to get out of it. Don’t judge. Some roads are easy to enter, but near impossible to exit.
And the difference between a good truck driver and becoming this guy is one little secret ole Kenny Rogers said and that’s you gotta know when to hold and know when to fold em. When the road starts getting bad, know there’s a good chance you’re only way out, is the way you came, so before continuing on, ask yourself do you wanna back up now, later or wait until it’s too late?
That's what the old head always say. But that goes against the laws of physics. When you reverse the truck, you're creating an extra point of rotation on the trailer axles that isn't there going forward, especially if the trailer is loaded, thanks to the friction of the tires and the angle of their push off from a stop.
You already know this intuitively if you're decent at backing in tight spaces, and you almost certainly account for it, even though when you think about it you don't realize it. You even been able to back into a space at a truckstop you couldn't pull out of? That's why. Alternatively have you ever had to pull out by doing that pull up and out to the right, then left, then back right to go out thing, when you backed into the space with the same people around you perfectly fine? That's why. You know it intuitively, or at least your subconscious brain knows it, but it seems logical that you could reverse exactly how you went forward, so it's drilled into a lot of our brains that way. Learning this is unironically what made me as good as I am in reverse. I'm very confident in backing and this is why.
I don’t disagree with these points, but I still believe if it went in, it’ll come out still holds true, so long as you know what you’re doing.
I do agree though, for the type of work I do I’m constantly backing into super tight spaces, it’s gotten so I’m more comfortable backing into a tricky spot than pulling forward.
Reminds me of Bear Mountain in New York. I didn’t want to go thru sleepy hollow for the millionth time and tried to cut across the mountain. You can do it but it ain’t fun.
Damn, I'll never comment before watching again. Auto Type, this fella is not gay! He just said F that job and this load and the dumb ass who ordered it and dispatched it. Lmao, What happens when u go low pro.
Yeah once you’re gone you’re gone sometimes. Theoretically is there a speed he could be going? Yes. Practically though there’s no way he can achieve that speed so even flat out, he’s still out flat.
Yeah if he had see-sawed his tandems about 50 times and had all the road behind themselves free for an hour it's plausible to make that , otherwise nope.
There’s a road near my house nicknamed snake rd. There are signs from literally every street going towards it, one on the highway, and one on the interstate telling truckers to take an alternate route, and under no circumstances get anywhere near snake rd. Cops get called out to get trucks out about twice a month.
Those K rails screwed them. They should have stopped before they got into the turn. The rails took away the ability to go wide enough into the shoulder.
Should’ve started on the left side of the road before the road narrowed, dumped bags(if he had any) and throttled up. Or just not take the tiny highway. Either/or. Better the road more taken.
Ok, ok. what would you do in this scenario? you cant back out you already committed.. Id just park it and call dispatch and let the cars behind me honk but ya... hope the drivers ok 🙏
God has 0 % to do with allowing a mouth breather like this to get behind the wheel of a vehicle this large, nor his mindless decision to go up that road to begin with.
You're going to have a crew of about 15 to 20. Probably working for 24-48. They're going to have to huff out all that product on to a couple box trucks.
2 rotators, they'll be there for at least a full day getting the tractor and the trailer. Probably going to need a float for the trailer, the tractor will go out on one of the tows.
Then you have to consider what happened to the diesel? Going to be an EPA Hazmat response, may have to remediate the soil.
So I used to do heavy haul. Got routed to a part of Kentucky trying to get into Virginia. Come to find out that the route has an 80,000 lbs limit, I'm grossing 170,000 lbs. Got a new permit so I decided to scrutinize it with google maps. It was sending me through residential side roads with some very sharp bends and horseshoe bends. I basically called the permit company back and shat on them.

Occams_RZR900@reddit
I don’t disagree with these points, but I still believe if it went in, it’ll come out still holds true, so long as you know what you’re doing.
I do agree though, for the type of work I do I’m constantly backing into super tight spaces, it’s gotten so I’m more comfortable backing into a tricky spot than pulling forward.

Maybe if not his abilities, his intuition lol.

Some roads are hotel California.

"don't judge" Not judging is what got this clown upside down in the ditch.
Crzymk101@reddit
Jokes aside is the driver OK?
Ticallion339@reddit
Reminds me of Bear Mountain in New York. I didn’t want to go thru sleepy hollow for the millionth time and tried to cut across the mountain. You can do it but it ain’t fun.

Will-Phill@reddit
Damn, I'll never comment before watching again. Auto Type, this fella is not gay! He just said F that job and this load and the dumb ass who ordered it and dispatched it. Lmao, What happens when u go low pro.
NorthDriver8927@reddit
It’s way easier to get all your stuff out of the bunk after you flip the truck.
Adventurous_Let_1081@reddit
That guy should have never attempted that turn
LagtimeArt@reddit
What happened? Was the load too big? Sorry I’m not an expert, but was there anyway he could have saved it?
BWSD@reddit
Someone here suggested taking one trailer at a time.
onedarkhorsee@reddit
nah he was cooked as soon as he entered the single lane
7Powerful-Storm7597@reddit
WOW 😳 hope the driver made it out, prayers up
Leaf-Stars@reddit
At least the asshole didn’t block the entire highway.
BWSD@reddit
Well, this driver didn't, but the recovery vehicles sure will.
RR_Trucker@reddit
And….He gone
HopeItMakesYaThink@reddit
The forethought of the highway crew to stop the guard rail on that side at that exact point. Truly marvelous.
kikiusa1@reddit
This is where you unhook and bring one trailer at a time
alaskanslicer@reddit
Looks like 89a between Sedona and Flagstaff
TheRealGageEndal@reddit
I lome how the forest claimed the truck and ate it whole.
medz6@reddit
It amazes me that this can even happen. Like wtf was he thinking?
skip029@reddit
The GPS your company uses told me to take this route!!!! --driver
Drivers who use this complaint are 98% wrong/lying. We can see the pings on your truck/routes dumbass.

I'd like to overhear the conversation to dispatch explaining this one.

How can you make a bad situation much worse?
Silly-Swimmer-8324@reddit
Would It be better to drive fast through this or you think either way he was fucked
im-not-a-fakebot@reddit
Because they had the outer shoulder barricaded off he was fucked either way
lord_nuker@reddit
Doesn’t matter, gravity always wins.
KajaIsForeverAlone@reddit
Centrifugal force though
Sea_Sheepherder_9509@reddit
I think faster might have helped
YaBoiAggroAndy@reddit
Yeah once you’re gone you’re gone sometimes. Theoretically is there a speed he could be going? Yes. Practically though there’s no way he can achieve that speed so even flat out, he’s still out flat.
Captain_Wag@reddit
If he drove 20-25mph through the turn and drove into the barrier, probably still no. His trailer is too far over before the video begins.
KingNebyula@reddit
If he gunned it through here there would’ve just been a larger amount of energy pulling him down
Ok-Eagle-9591@reddit
When in doubt, throttle out
confusedbystupidity@reddit
Bet his tandems where all the way back...
TruckerChet1973@reddit
Wanna see a magic trick... watch this truck disappear.
CoffeePot42@reddit
I was rooting for yea. If you just would have gone a little faster and an inch more towards barrier!
twistedfister1990@reddit
Yeah if he had see-sawed his tandems about 50 times and had all the road behind themselves free for an hour it's plausible to make that , otherwise nope.
onedarkhorsee@reddit
he could have sacrificed a fucking goat and he still wouldn't have made it

drinkslinger1974@reddit
There’s a road near my house nicknamed snake rd. There are signs from literally every street going towards it, one on the highway, and one on the interstate telling truckers to take an alternate route, and under no circumstances get anywhere near snake rd. Cops get called out to get trucks out about twice a month.
ConsistentOffice4386@reddit
Ooooooohhh shit! That's a bad day. I hope dude's all right.
FarNeighborhood25@reddit
Those K rails screwed them. They should have stopped before they got into the turn. The rails took away the ability to go wide enough into the shoulder.
Dyna_scum_666@reddit
That guy doesn't even want to be this guy.
highwayher0@reddit
Poor guy, obviously, not a rookie, but with that jersey barrier, he couldn't make the turn.
Delicious_Peace_2526@reddit
Construction crew: “yup we can block a lane, plenty of room for a car to get through.”
Dabnbf@reddit
I like how it sounded like he tried to speed up in the last few seconds before his demise
boatrollscale@reddit
Well he's or she's fucked
Avenging_Wraith@reddit
Should’ve started on the left side of the road before the road narrowed, dumped bags(if he had any) and throttled up. Or just not take the tiny highway. Either/or. Better the road more taken.
johnnyrollz@reddit
I hope he's okay what a fucking mouth breather GOD
nonvisiblepantalones@reddit
Well at least he had the courtesy not to block the road.
xflyinjx61x@reddit
Dun shoulda backed er down there bucko
albertyiphohomei@reddit
Should have just speed through it. /s
chevx@reddit
As crazy as that is, the momentum would've probably helped. But he'd definitely be shaken up afterwards. Doesn't matter now does it?😅
Occams_RZR900@reddit
Doubtful, he’d just crash down the hill faster. That truck ain’t fast enough to outrun gravity, sorry.
chevx@reddit
To be fair. I wouldn't even attempt it🤣🤣
Occams_RZR900@reddit
I can’t imagine anyone with brains or eyes would either.

InvstrJester@reddit
Truck Navigation took me down the right road but, people were parked close to the corner on both sides. I started the turn and had to back out .
InvstrJester@reddit
He almost lost the load, the truck and his life. God bless him.
notjohnstockton@reddit
God has 0 % to do with allowing a mouth breather like this to get behind the wheel of a vehicle this large, nor his mindless decision to go up that road to begin with.
InvstrJester@reddit
I hear that. I actually would have not tried it. It had to look sketchy at the beginning
denyasis@reddit

Wizofsorts@reddit
If that was lumber that was nice of him to put it back.
supsupman1001@reddit
seems like the road can be done but those construction barriers the guy filming companies put up made it so he cant swing wide
stop, call the police, move those fucking runoff barriers
liveloveshitt@reddit
That looked really expensive. I wonder what happens next do they bring in a giant crane?? So curious
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit
You're going to have a crew of about 15 to 20. Probably working for 24-48. They're going to have to huff out all that product on to a couple box trucks.
2 rotators, they'll be there for at least a full day getting the tractor and the trailer. Probably going to need a float for the trailer, the tractor will go out on one of the tows.
Then you have to consider what happened to the diesel? Going to be an EPA Hazmat response, may have to remediate the soil.
Professional_Ad7708@reddit
2 medium sized cranes.
alcoronaholic@reddit
Three very small cranes.

GroucheeIndividual@reddit
I’m not here to judge but I bet that driver couldn’t understand the English language.
