Crashed My Car Today - Rear-Ended and I'm Freaking Out, Please Help?"

I had my first-ever car accident today - I rear-ended into a pole and I'm honestly still shaking. No one was hurt, thankfully, but I'm not sure what to do next. This was my first car and i loved it. I was reversing it when i accidently floored into a pole. The window smashed and the rear is bent badly. I tried showing it to a mechanic and he says my next best option is to get rid of it as it is not road worthy anymore. I dont have insurance on it and i am terrified. My mind is blank and i can't think of anything else now. The car is still working but the mechanic said i won't get much out of it. If anyone's been through something like this, I could really use some advice. What steps should I take now? Appreciate any help A

Make sure the next car you buy has steel bumpers.
I speak from experience.

Show a photo of the damage, it may not be that bad. What costs thousands at mechanic, you can do for a few hundred with scrapyard parts and a few free weekends.

Take it to a body shop and see how much the repairs are. Either fix it or sell it as is and get another car.

Why can't I see the pic?

Tape that window up with plastic and drive it. Start saving if you haven't been.

Why don’t you have insurance?? You’re legally required to.
That damage is gonna cost thousandssss in body work, not to mention electrical. Your best bet is selling it to an auction yard for like $500 and getting something else.

I only have third party insurance which covers the other car in case of a crash. I was trying to go with the cheaper option. I am regretting it badly now.

Yepppp. That’s why comprehensive exists. You don’t have much here besides getting rid of it

I’m sorry but, without insurance there’s not much to do here. Fixing a car takes parts and labor and if a mechanic said it’s not driveable, there’s nothing anyone here can say to change that.
It’s a hard lesson learned, car insurance isn’t really something to be skipped.

The only steps to take are, try to sell it (most likely as scrap) and then buy a new car. Chances are the frame is damaged and it will not be worth fixing. Next step would be to add comprehensive coverage to your next vehicle so insurance is on the hook next time.
