9H-GLOBL. Parked at Tarmac Aerosave in Tarbes ( France ) since july.
That’s where they store and dismantle Air France and Malaysia A380s. The A380 from Global is probably the only one here that will take to the skies again one day.

Riyadh Air could have used these A380's!
aa2051@reddit
Read this as RyanAir at first
850 seats of all economy💀
chronicpresence@reddit
does the a380 have built-in airstairs as an option?
By-Eck@reddit
I don't believe so
vukasin123king@reddit
Just weld on some hardware store ladders.
EmberTheFoxyFox@reddit
Just drop some rope ladders out the doors
ethanxp2@reddit
He'd probably find a way to squeeze in another 20 seats and have 1 toilet too.
SixSierra@reddit
And don’t forgot to retrofit the stairs to every single doors, both the top and bottom ones.
captainmattux@reddit
Cebu Pacific would cram 853.
Cautious_Use_7442@reddit
That's just the main deck. What you gonna do with the upper deck?
thphnts@reddit
Why? Their model doesn’t need A380’s.
mottledmirror@reddit
My airline has stored aircraft there many times. Sometimes they've come back but more often it's where they go before being sold or sent to be recycled somewhere else.
DazzzASTER@reddit
I hadn't realised it had a split rudder.
Quailking2003@reddit
Does this mean Global Airlines was a scam or failure?

To borrow a quote from F1, the best way to become a millionaire in the aviation industry is to start as a billionaire

I think James Asquith has discovered the hard way that it takes a lot of £££ (and potentially a few false starts) to turn what you think is a good idea into a financially viable airline. I don't think it was ever a scam, I think Asquith genuinely thought he could make it work.
sneijder@reddit
I dealt with a similar non-start up years back (Like 15 years back)
They were going to buy 2 x Air China (I think, definitely Chinese) B747 Combi (KLM were operating them at the time too)
The business model was feeding cruise ships in the USA within European passengers, who’d then fly back out again.
I suspect Global were fed the same nonsense.

Is what he & his legal team will say when questioned.
Hour_Analyst_7765@reddit
but.. but..
isn't it GENERAL knowledge that any airline is only profitable by flying their planes a lot, with a high load factor?
Sure they were talking about gaming centers on board or whatever. Great idea, I encourage any airline to do something new and funky (most of them just want a safe, bulk, transport plan). But it still has to make sense: how many % of people really are into that idea, especially when they are travelling several time zones lol.
I can't imagine its that hard to figure out.
-wak@reddit
How delusional do you have to be to think that it was ever financially feasible
Difficult_Limit2718@reddit
Rich people != Smart people
Anyone who even pays a modicum of attention to the industry knows the A380 hub to hub model never materialized, that twin jets have far better cost efficiency, and the A380 is severely limited on airports it can operate to.
The real play would've been to buy Silver, flip it ASAP to either E2s or A220s, and line it up with Breeze destinations to create a "premium low cost" vacation airline with no first class but basically all economy+ pitch
sofixa11@reddit
Tell that to Emirates. Literally the only ones who made it work, but still. And there are still a number of hubs which are very slot/movement constrained, so it could still work in theory.
For pure leisure though, cost is king, and it's a much safer bet to try to mimic French Bee / Air Caraïbes's low cost long haul full A350 model.
Difficult_Limit2718@reddit
Yeah but the 787, A350, and A330neo make secondary hubs viable for point to point relieving the stress on the big hubs.
The A380 is a lot like the A340, a great solution to a problem that evaporated quickly thanks to other market factors
nekize@reddit
A380 is also over dimensioned, since the current version was supposed to be the smaller variant, but all the same parts also work for a longer version. And once you extend it (under assumption it’s full), the cost per seat significantly reduces. But yeah in the end market changed and a380 is just too expensive to run.
MoistFW190@reddit
If he just waited.. PlayAir would of been "The real play"
Difficult_Limit2718@reddit
😂😂😂
Valid, but 321NEOs are a hot commodity
Choice_Way_2916@reddit
What happened with global airlines?
thphnts@reddit
It was a scam from day one. James Asquith has a history of fraud, too.
WankelFelix@reddit
It will never fly again.
sneijder@reddit
It’ll fly when it absolutely has to be maintained, and that’s it until its scrap value is greater than its current value.
It initially flew over the Atlantic ‘gear down’ and had to have its gear swing test in Europe.
I’d normally fact check what I post, but I’ll not bother when it comes to this joke of an airline.
More_Card_8147@reddit
Long term storage and they didn't even bother to do the preps?
If ain't flying nowhere any time soon.
