I may have some in a storage my parents have. Should empty it out soon.
They had an ibm system/36 back when ages ago.

I do have 7 at home. Once one starts, difficult to stop it is.

Oh don't tell me this. I bought my first one yesterday, stumbled on it at an antique mall. Huge heavy Datapoint combo hard drive with 8" floppy.

Yes, I tell you this!
You might want one for your old computer, then you would want another one to write 8" disks from your PC in order to bring software... And from that point there's no return.
You will get addicted to the 8" trend, just wait and see...

I have several 5 1/4" but haven't seen an 8" for years. I think the last time I used one was 1993 for a mainframe check printer. That's another point of contention because the old IT guys had control of everything. To get a printed check register took days because you had to submit a request and it had to be signed off and authorized and all that.

That's a bit personal isn't it?

Some do, I met a guy at VCF who had an entire Altair/IMSAI setup and he had a legit working 8-inch disk drive. Very ancient, but it worked fine.
Makes the 5 1/4 inch version I picked up a simple toy by comparision

A lab I worked with still had them in use for a few pieces of equipment. I left the group a year ago, but they're probably still using them

The electronics surplus store near me has a few that come and go surprisingly frequently. One that's there currently is from Tektronix.
redneckrockuhtree@reddit
Yep. New in its original box.
jfoust2@reddit
Why do you ask?
gadget850@reddit
I have some disks.
NorCalFrances@reddit
I still have one in a box in the garage. The disk in it is labeled, "Fortran".
Mieleke@reddit
Yep and disks.
TheManRoomGuy@reddit
I just ran across a Zip disk. Not sure what to do with that.
GlennPegden@reddit
Yep, though I’ve not risked powering it up in years

I have a TRS-80 Model 2 (1 drive) and a Tandy 6000 (2 drives) as well as the external 3-drive bay for the model 2 with 3 drives. So that's 6 total. Plus a large stack of floppies.
The drives work inside the Model 2 and 6000, but the external bay is untested.

Yes, our SSL console needs those for its recall functions - huge, fragile motherfuckers
nixiebunny@reddit
I think my brother has a couple 8 inch drives for his 1981 STD bus computer, but probably hasn’t used them in decades. I gave my last batch of floppies to a friend with a record cutting company, who uses them for record sleeves.
Necessary_Position77@reddit
I just have a stack of disks, no drive.

Yes.
