Also, if you are military or whatever else gets the 10% extra discount … it stacks brining it down to $152.99 which is even lower than govx / expertvoice.
chappys4life@reddit
I wish this was a green dot

There's another deal for a Fastfire enclosed green dot for $+50, refresh your gundeals and sort by new
Importantpoop69@reddit
Is this bin or should I just get a holosun
Afro-Pope@reddit
Enclosed dot from a known brand for half the price of an EPS Carry? I'd do it.
Due-Development-7211@reddit
Dpp is often necessary for enclosed dots because of the placement for the mounting holes is farther back.
Also dpp is the chosen standardized footprint for the military
Afro-Pope@reddit
interesting! That makes sense to me. I've only got stuff with either RMSc or RMR footprints so I wasn't aware it was so common.
SwordfishAncient@reddit
The RXM is also cut for all of them, but DPP fills the whole cut so you dont have any gap. After comparing, i think its a superior footprint that im glad to see is getting traction. I used to think it was odd.
Afro-Pope@reddit
Yeah, and I'd been eyeballing an RXM, too, so I might as well grab one of these.
EternalGandhi@reddit
Bought one of these from Freedom Gorilla and mounted in on my Henry X. Pretty solid optic and just the right size for my lever action. I like enclosed optics and figured this would be just right over the other version with the solar charger.
Capital_District1716@reddit
Plus tax, i paid 165 otd
FriendlyBlanket@reddit
About the same after TN sales tax
jmoc11@reddit
Anyone know window size i cant seem to find the information
Possible_Policy@reddit
Bought my from bass pro, let me stack a club card discount and no tax to Florida ended with me OTD at $165ish.
Love it so far on my 4.25 M&P metal. Does not cowitness but the dot is nice and crisp, cleaner than my 507comp to my eyes.
General_Irobi@reddit
What is the club member discount code?
Possible_Policy@reddit
It’s over now
MattieHeighs@reddit
This a viable cheap option for a piggyback dot for an AR?
i40oz@reddit
It is decent for piggyback but the night vision modes are not great, I would get something else if night vision would be the main use.
stupid_account_69@reddit
This or a 507c? I’m looking to spend $250 max for a piggyback dot that will see some occasional use under nods.
reetardgenius@reddit
I’ve never used a 507 under nods, but the EPS full size is really good with night vision. Better than an RMR
i40oz@reddit
If you're doing NV 507c for sure. It works way better under NODS. The venom obviously excels better in the rain but that's it from my experience
stupid_account_69@reddit
Thanks man, I appreciate you.
farinx@reddit
Is it the glass clarity or the dot dimness ? I’ve been looking for someone with firsthand experience.
I have the defender XL and viper shotgun dot and tried them both out under night vision and the “night vision” modes were both way too bright.
cgauspg@reddit
I put mine on a m&p that had a DPP cut. So far I think it’s awesome. I don’t have nods and I have not run it in the rain yet, but a couple hundreds rounds at the range went well. I love the 6moa dot on a pistol.
i40oz@reddit
Ya, way too bright. It halos bad with the venom, I wouldn't say it's unusable, but I would try another budget option like holosun if you want better NV options.
TheKursedKokonut@reddit
In my experience the Venom, CCW, and ST all have halos in the lowest (NV) setting. Just like the non-enclosed version (also had that ST). The Holosun EPS performed a lot better and I was also surprised by the Cyelee Wolf EDG.
TheKursedKokonut@reddit
Depends on your mount. I measured the thickness of mine at 0.4in for the base, so it sits mad high. Ended up returning it. The size is comparable to the Defender ST too. I also have the Defender CCW Enclosed and it's a lot thinner, smaller, the dot sits lower. IMO it was more suited for a piggyback.
nationalspice@reddit
I'd say so
MattieHeighs@reddit
And it has the rmr footprint (I think) so that makes it even easier
nationalspice@reddit
This has DPP footprint
MattieHeighs@reddit
You are correct. Damnit. Nothing a plate can’t fix
TheKursedKokonut@reddit
It's DPP.
BickenBackk@reddit
Was wondering the same thing for offset.

"Mounting Footprint: DeltaPoint Pro"
Due-Development-7211@reddit
Many companies going to DPP because the military chose that footprint
Wake-n-jake@reddit
Food for thought, I had the same opinion, bought the optic I wanted and an adapter plate, with the plate my surpressor height sites no longer co-witness so if the dot dies I lose my sights entirely. If my optic matched the OE cuts footprint I'd have back up irons.
Due-Development-7211@reddit
Seems like something you could have researched beforehand. I don't get guns with adapter plates. That being said I have 2 enclosed venoms. One is atop an lpvo and the other is on a home defense gun. Neither is on a pistol. I do have their defender CCW enclosed dot on my carry and it's great.
Wake-n-jake@reddit
Springfield has less than stellar information available unfortunately, I got yesses and no's in my research. It wasn't a big deal I just threw my 407 on a different gun that didn't need an adapter ate the $12 loss on the plate and picked up a defender which does co-witness.
Flashy-Code-8096@reddit
Never really understood the concern on foot print if your gun takes plates or isn’t already milled. I’m not playing musical optics typically
Echo_Raptor@reddit
Because RMR/RMSc are the standard, even stuff that supports DPP are starting to have RMR holes as well
Brilliant-Bat7063@reddit
Almost as if there are people who want direct mount or already have it milled for something else.
Idumb_gerunteed@reddit
Sucks to suck. You can’t please everyone.
Kryptic_Anthology@reddit
User name checks out.
SgtHop@reddit
That's a pretty good deal for this I feel. Vortex dots are pretty old school, but for the $130 I got this for after my club points, we're gonna send it.
nailer69420@reddit
Have you been able to try anything from the Defender lineup?
AlternativeStation29@reddit
I used the Defender ST and Defender CCW open emitter dots since released. I recently got the Defender ST and CCW enclosed and put about 500 rounds on them this weekend and I'm pretty happy with them. I'm hoping they stay as solid as the open emitter models.
tubbymaru@reddit
I got the ccw. I like it, dot is clear.. Brightness is good. Got it for the large battery (sick of my eps carry eating batteries every 3 months). One thing I didn't realize until install was the deck height. Standard sights on a p365 will not cowitness. Might be due to the larger case required for the 2032 battery but I'm curious if the deck height could be improved. With how big the optic is, the window size appears to be roughly the same as a eps carry.
SgtHop@reddit
I have one of the first version Defenders, and it gets the job done. Seems pretty stout, but still pretty old school. I haven't shot an XL or anything newer than that OG Defender however.
Echo_Raptor@reddit
The new ones are quite a step up from the older venom lines, they were not good
No_Artichoke_5670@reddit
These newer models are finally in line with Holosun quality and features. You're right the ones from a couple years ago kinda sucked with the low refresh rate, etc.
tookOurJerbs-92@reddit
must. protect. wallet.
cddixon108@reddit
They've got a Ruger rxm with this dot on it for $499.97. That's pretty darn good. Especially for some just getting into shooting thats looking for a pistol with a red dot that's ready to go out of the box.
DUCK_FACE_JONES@reddit
Who's buying dpp in 2025
Due-Development-7211@reddit
The military chose that footprint for standardization so it will probably become quite common
arrowrand@reddit
Me! I do!
ZucksSkinSuit@reddit
FN 509T is detect milled for DPP, so me
sexbox360@reddit
Dpp footprint is based because it's ambi. If you ever get offset red dot mount or offset scope rings, you can flip them around and put your dot however you want.
Conceptually it's better, I would like to see RMR foot print go away.
Im-a-magpie@reddit
Bolt position also further back which is why it's used for so many enclosed dots.
ibnhall@reddit
Me, and many others. Do your homework! COA>DPP>RMR
DUCK_FACE_JONES@reddit
Is that footprint wise or just optic generally hah
ibnhall@reddit
footprint
theoriginalharbinger@reddit
Anyone who has a mainstream SIG or likes buying discount Glock slides on eBay.
IndependenceCold5611@reddit
Looks like Bass Pro also have a RXM with a Venom enclosed already mounted for five bills. Not bad for a turnkey package?
afuckingwheel@reddit
Spend a little extra for the Defender Enclosed. 6061 housing in 2025 is crazy
Im-a-magpie@reddit
The difference in elastic modulus between the 2 metals is literally negligible (71.7 GPa vs 68.9 GPa)
WubWubMiller@reddit
Nobody ever gave a shit about 6061 vs 7075 in gun accessories until GBRS brought out their overpriced mount and now everybody is a metallurgist.
6061 is fine for certain criteria, affordability being one of them.
Hellsing971@reddit (OP)
Can you educate me on why 6061 is off-putting to you and what you think it should be?
afuckingwheel@reddit
7075
shringing277@reddit
Is that it? You just like a slightly different version of aluminum and that’s the only reason?
afuckingwheel@reddit
Yes. This is not an unreasonable standard to have. The Olight SE is the same price from dealers on this sub. Enclosed and 7075. The Cyelee Wolf EDG is slightly more, enclosed and 7075 (and much flatter glass than my Defender Enclosed CCW).
sexbox360@reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/gundeals/comments/1o4ugbo/comment/nj57pi0/
My other comment on why I prefer 7075
TheKursedKokonut@reddit
The CCW and ST are OOS on EV and GovX, and they order directly from Vortex. I'm assuming they might be behind on production or haven't restocked. I had the Venom and CCW Enclosed. I can't tell the difference between 6061 and 7075 aluminum.
fakeredditor@reddit
Are you suffering from a lot of crushed optics?
afuckingwheel@reddit
No, because they're all 7075
sexbox360@reddit
Hey man ignore the downvotes, I fully agree with you. Top dots especially on rifles are the first point of contact with the ground.
Wanting 7075 is a reasonable. Even trijicon with the indestructible RMR used 7075. And that's an open emitter with a reinforced housing.
I can totally see the concerns with a 6061 in an enclosed non reinforced optic. If you bend the housing the internals will fog. That's why eotech put a cage around the exps 3. Square optics aren't that strong.
Physical_Wind954@reddit
If I'm worried about super durability I'm not going to pick any Vortex optic outside of the razor line, and honestly even then probably not my first choice.
Capital_District1716@reddit
A little extra? The defender ST is twice as much
hi-im-kevin-i-party@reddit
So I bought one of these on Tuesday(?) when bass pro had a club member 10% discount. The vortex 15% discount stacked. Literally just mounted it on my beretta apx a1 tactical with suppressor height sights, and it does not co-witness. This gun has a plate optic mounting system though so it definitely adds some height compared to a direct mount so I’d imagine direct mount with suppressor height sights will co-witness? But the Beretta specifically, and maybe other plate system guns even with tall sights do not, just fyi for anyone that cares.
Ok_Shopping_1184@reddit
This seems like a banging deal. Anyone have experience with these?
Hellsing971@reddit (OP)
Both my 92GTS and 22/45 mk4 have this sight and I really like them. I also have the CCW version (which bass pro doesn't seem to sell yet) for my 43X which is also excellent. I also have a Holosun 407k x2 and 507c x2. Obviously they aren't enclosed but the price point is similar. Don't think you can go wrong with either but I'd choose the vortex over the Holosun for the same $ to get enclosed and the vortex warranty. If price wasn't an issue I'd go Holosun EPS. My 407k x2 came with a stubborn spec on the emitter that I eventually got off, so now I'm a bit biased towards enclosed.
leemaverick@reddit
Not sure about vortex over holosun. Better warranty for sure but in general way worse quality. https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitionShooting/s/42Z3lLFst3
PostSoupsAndGrits@reddit
Recency bias. Search “holosun died” and you’ll see just as many posts. The difference is that if I drop my defender and break it, they’ll replace it. Holosun will tell me to kick rocks.
leemaverick@reddit
You shoot more than those competition shooters to have more data on dot reliability?
PostSoupsAndGrits@reddit
I shoot USPSA and PCSL. I have a few defender XL’s. My main one has somewhere around 10k with another few thousand spread between the other few. I also sent one back early on for a fucked adjustment turret.
I had a few 507comps before that. One had a fucked adjustment turret early on as well. I dropped and cracked a second one, and Holosun told me they’d sell me a refurbished for $250. Vortex just replaces dropped optics, no questions asked.
cowboy3gunisfun@reddit
Figures this would come out only a few weeks after the RCR rebate deal.
