Set it and forgot it! I spent more time watching this guy growing up than anyone else.

Still have 2. I keep one in my golf bag. Power move to make a birdie and catch a fish in a 2-minute span. 😂
rik1122@reddit
A friend of mine caught two northerns with one of these just yesterday. The reel fell out of the rod while trying to land the second fish.
Accomplished_Book427@reddit
My dad still has one of these. You have to call it by its full name in his presence or he'll correct you.
cleanmotives@reddit
His nice fishing boat was docked in Channel Islands Harbor for years, named the Pocket Fisherman

The sad truth is that I need this stuff now way more than a rotisserie cooker.

Yes!! I still reference this stuff because I use dark spray on greys before I can get my roots done.
johnvalley86@reddit
Holy shit I forgot about spray hair!
anecdotal_yokel@reddit
I did a presentation on Ron for public speech class in high school.
Roland-Of-Eld-19@reddit
You watched more Popeil than anyone else.... is that the most amount of Ron Popeil infomercials possible?
So you just mean you watched more Popeil than you watched Mr Rogers or Mr Dressup or Jerry Springer or Montel Williams?
Or do you mean nobody watched more Ron Popeil stuff than you did as your Popeil Grand World Champion?
likeusontweeters@reddit
Yes.
johnvalley86@reddit
Those rotisserie chickens always looked so damn good!
ThatFalafelGirl@reddit
It works great, but the best part is all the things on the oven and in the instructions that say " DO NOT SET IT AND FORGET IT"
johnvalley86@reddit
That seems like the ultimate betrayal
ThatFalafelGirl@reddit
Truly.
lovemypennydog@reddit
My parents had one and it was amazing
southdakotagirl@reddit
I still have mine. It still works and its great. You can find them on ebay.
cityshepherd@reddit
I’ve never had one but I have been saying “set it and forget it” every time I cook something for years.
Least-Task276@reddit
My parents had one too! The chicken was good. My dad would always say the tag line when they made one.
ElectricPenguin6712@reddit
I watched that infomercial every time I saw it was on
Rough-Boot9086@reddit
When you only have about 8 channels to choose from, you can't be too picky. Especially early mornings
TermBusy1086@reddit
As a 9 year old who didn’t cook, I had such a strong desire to own a rotisserie oven.
zebra_heaDD@reddit
The only person to push mint jelly ever.
ThepalehorseRiderr@reddit
I still want the food dehydrator.
TijayesPJs443@reddit
Same. Just realized I’ve wanted to make dehydrated watermelon for like 30 years… probably time to make it happen
Purring4Krodos@reddit
We had one! And as other commentary has proven, Dad's were living their best beef jerky life.
Except my step-dad. He cannot cook at all yet is convinced he is the 2nd coming of Emeril. His beef jerky was hardly jerky and I question whether it was beef or something else.
867-53-oh-nein@reddit
We had one and it was pretty awesome. my dad got really good at making beef jerky with it.

Help me! Mr. Popeil!
TheBackSpin@reddit
The joy my father got from saying this. Thar infomercial was on all time in my house, and yes of course we had one. Bomb rotisserie chicken
SilentReflection101@reddit
Holy fuck! I set it and forgot it for 15 years!
misterlakatos@reddit
Haha yes I remember this dude always showed up on weekends.
I remember the local networks always showed infomercials like this on weekend afternoons, especially when it was not football season (since back then ABC, CBS and NBC were airing CFB and/or NFL every weekend). Just brutal.

Ron Popeil is still the king, but my favorite informercial ever is the magic bullet
BugEquivalents@reddit
No idea why, but we were obsessed with the Snack Master infomercial. We watched it so much my dad finally caved in and bought one for us 😂
maggie320@reddit
I wanted his pasta maker so badly. Years later I found out it was a piece of crap.
BugEquivalents@reddit
We had the pasta maker. It was a fun gadget to play with but the pasta wasn’t really that good.
tdktn0@reddit
I regularly refer to setting something up and letting it auto pilot as Ron Popiel it.

Mr. Popeil I’m in trouble. Need your assistance on the double!

LV426acheron@reddit
It's pretty sad that you spent so much time watching lame infomercials when you were a kid.
horrordj@reddit
I loved the damn thing. We made chicken and home made gyros with it all the time growing up.
bigmacher1980@reddit
I was sure this guy was the debt
LivingCamel3326@reddit
The Popeil original story is pretty awesome. If you have a chance to read (or listen to the audiobook like me) Malcolm Gladwell’s What the Dog Saw he has a chapter on it.
