I would call them the worst game company ever, frankly, but not only does EA exist - a company that was somehow making AI slop before AI existed - but they aren't really a game company anymore. They are a sentient army of demonically-possessed lawyers out to destroy everyone that is better than them. Which is everyone.
-Tries taking down emulators and ROM sites instead of localizing/rereleasing their games at a reasonable price (Galaxy ports don't count I'm not spending 40 euro on a Wii game in 2025)
-Locking old games behind said online subscription service and not just letting you buy them like previous Nintendo consoles
-70/80 euro games that never go on sale
-Removal of pro consumer things the Switch 1 generation had like gold points
As much as I like Nintendo (most of my favorite games are Nintendo ones TBH. Don't take this a boycott I probably am buying a Switch 2 when Smash 6 drops) they're definitely getting worse. Being the only guys in town still doing console exclusives is kind of all they have at this point
Also Switch 2 barely counts as a current generation when it can't keep up with other consoles. Literally only reason they are surviving is because of the exclusives that anon for some reason listed as a positive (exclusives suck actually, port your games)
So you want a handheld that has the same horsepower as a current gen console but good battery life and it also has to be cheap…yeah, Nintendo are such villains
You have seen the side by side comparisons of games on both Switch 2 and Steam Deck where Switch 2’s performance absolutely wipes the floor with Steam Deck, right?
So…the Steam Deck has even less power than the Switch 2 and therefore is even less performance than current gen consoles. Not much of a “gotcha” is it?
you don’t expect it to have the same gaming horsepower and it doesn’t. i already have a phone im trying to buy a console, I care about the actual gaming hardware that I‘m getting
Makes me really miss the days when you'd go to EB games in the mall and buy used copies for cheap. Even new games typically dropped the price after a relatively short amount of time.
I think part of it is that the Wii U just wasn't that big, even at its peak in ~2014. I'm about the same age but I've only ever met one or two people who've owned them, whereas wii, switch and 3ds owners are way more common
The one thing nintendo consistently does is make sure crunch doesn't happen, at least not in their 1st party studios that they have direct control over. The other big players would have never let tears of the kingdom/animal crossing have a full extra year just for polish, and the prime 4 restart would never have happened at other publishers
tbh, looking at Japanese Nintendo game, their worker satisfaction is at top 10 best companies to work for, and their developers retention is like 99%+ which is just un-heard of in Western companies.
Whenever you see directors of their game, it's always guys who has been working at Nintendo for like 20+ years, working on 10+ beloved game, while in here, the director would probably some MBA that joined the company 3 months before the project started and their work experience comes from working in banking or finance.
tbh, looking at Japanese Nintendo game, their worker satisfaction is at top 10 best companies to work for, and their developers retention is like 99%+ which is just un-heard of in Western companies.
Again these numbers are coming from Japanese people who have a completely different work ethic.

To be honest I've seen plenty of executives/directors be with companies for many years even here in the west.
This is more of an issue stemming from publishers that pressure developers rather than a west vs east thing.
Nintendo develops and publishes in house and since Japanese companies are very traditional they tend to keep the same staff on for a long time.
They charge full price for games that are what, 3 generations old?
Bit of a difference between rereleasing a 3 generation old game with enhanced graphics, compared to Xbox where there's 360 games on the Microsoft Store for full price
Nintendo when you emulate 20 year old DS games they no longer profit from with scalpers that make it impossible to buy the originals for a reasonable price
Also doesn't mean anything when their components are way cheaper to manufacture than their competitors and just way lower performance. Nintendo finally has reached PS4 level graphics in 2025.
this is like the third ad disguised as a green text i’ve seen in the past week, but i give this one a pass because in what world would nintendo advertise on 4chan
I love Nintendo games, i hate Nintendo. Remember, if they won't respect you as a consumer, than you shouldn't respect their properties. Piracy is morally okay.
Boy I sure love paying for online so I can checks notes play smash with terrible lag, and checks notes again play 30 year old games that I’ve already paid for 3 times?
Nintendo lost me after the first switch had been out for like 2 years, and they still had made no attempt to fix up the online store. Poorly optimized, bad UX, and bloated with a bunch of shit flash games ported poorly. At least other successful platforms will do the bare minimum to curate what they offer.
yeah, im a big nintendo fan and i'll always be the first one to say that they fumbled really hard with the store. The single biggest improvement they could do with no real filter from their part is allow us to filter out publishers yo prevent new AAA Clock bundles and AI Hentai puzzle games to show up every single day on the store, but they simply don't care enough for that.
My 3DS didn't need a subscription to play online and it is more durable than Switch, easier to take places and focused on making unique games it could run that were cheap and physical. Their last good console.
Why are gamers still using exclusives as a positive or 'gotcha'? Having less exclusives is better for the consumer. You can actually choose a console based on its specs and other features, instead of having to choose which games you want to be able to play.
Yep, one of the last good video game companies left and fortnite kids with zero taste are furious that the games they weren't buying anyway are $10 more lol

to me switch is a handheld console, thus isn’t comparable and should be cheaper
rbhfd@reddit
Why should it be cheaper. It's size constrained and needs a screen?
The fact that it's even being compared to PS and Xbox is impressive.
Not defending any of Nintendo's practices, but if you like handheld gaming and/or Nintendo's IP, there's no choice.

Mario Kart World is ass and they force the shitty intermission tracks.
$80 games.
Online that is finally somewhat decent, only taking 15 years to match what Xbox and PS3 were doing.
Most games on launch for Switch 2 were 2-3 years old games that cant even run 60fps on Switch 2.
Its gotten to the point that Switch is my beat em up player and rare Nintendo game. Honestly only care for Xenoblade and Fire Emblem on Switch.
